Mildred Irene (Carter) Felkerson 1922-2009

DIXON – Mildred Felkerson, 87, of Dixon, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, in Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla.
Funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, and is from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, in the chapel.
Mildred is survived by a son, Terry Felkerson and his wife Brenda; a daughter, Carolyn Rollins and her husband Jerry; two brothers: Bob Carter and his wife Lorene, and Arlie Carter and his wife Helen; two sisters: Erma Hance, and Vivian Thompson and her husband Yarol; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mildred Irene Felkerson, of Dixon, was born on August 5, 1922, at Dixon, a daughter of Pete Noah and Dora Mae (Grisham) Carter, and departed this life at 6:41 p.m., Thursday evening, August 13, 2009, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mrs. Felkerson had attained the age of 87 years and 8 days.

Mrs. Felkerson was united in marriage at Dixon, on May 23, 1940, to James Wade Felkerson and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 27, 2002; her father on April 24, 1974; her mother on September 13, 1985; two sisters, Dorothy Carter on March 8, 1923; and Norma Russell on December 19, 2008.

Mrs. Felkerson was a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church for 70 years. She was a cook for the Dixon RI School District for 33 years, retiring in 1989 as well as being a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Felkerson include: one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Brenda Felkerson, Salem; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Rollins, Ashland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Lorene Carter, Springfield and Arlie and Helen Carter, Dixon; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Erma Hance, Gustine, California and Vivian and Yarol Thompson, Dixon; five grandchildren, Victoria Ballew and her husband, Donald, Ashland; James Andrew Felkerson and wife, Tiffin, Oldthe, Kansas; Jason Rollins and wife, Kristina, Columbia; Cassandra Haddox and husband, Tommy, Cape Girardeau; and Rachel Felkerson, Red Lodge, Montana; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Felkerson at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Pastor Robert Switzer, Dixon United Methodist Church, officiating. “Rock of Ages’, “In The Garden” and Amazing Grace”, were sung for the funeral service.

Graveside services and interment were in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Felkerson were Terry Felkerson, Andrew Felkerson, Rachel Felkerson, Jason Rollins, Cassandra Haddox, and ____. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Haddox, Victoria Ballew, Donald Ballew, Kristina Haddox, Victoria Ballew, Donald Ballew, Kristina Rollins, and Liffin Felkerson.
