Sherd Maze, d 11 August 1902

SHERD MAZE died at Moab in Pulaski county, Mo., August 11th 1902, at 9 o’clock p.m. Brother Sherd Maze, aged 87 years, 7 months and 13 days.

Bro. Maze was born in Pulaski county, Ky., December 28th 1814; moved from there to Tenn., and was married to his first wife. Bro. Maze was married four times and was the father of eleven children. Two by his first wife both having been dead many years. Three by his second marriage, one, sister Nancy A. Ferrell, surviving him. Four by his third marriage, two, James R. and George W., surviving him. He had two children by his fourth marriage. One died young and the other, a daughter, married Omer Holloway and died a few years ago. Three children and his widowed companion survive him.

He had thirteen grandchildren, two of whom have passed away, and ten great grandchildren, six of whom are still living.

Bro. Maze was of a family of 8 sons and three daughters; he has lived in Missouri for thirty years or more and has only heard from one brother in all this time and it is not known if any survive him.

Bro. Maze accepted Christ and his promises and died (as he expressed it) ready and willing to go.

He was an honored member of the Masonic fraternity and a member of the Waynesville lodge at the time of his death, and was buried by the brotherhood at the Dry Creek cemetery on Wednesday at high noon, Bro. J.J. Watts conducting the religious services, using as a text, Rev. 21 and 25. “For there shall be no night there.”

Judge A.J. Harrison, d. 13 August 1902

DIED, Wednesday night, August 13, 1902 Judge A.J. Harrison, at his home near Richland, after an illness of several weeks of spinal trouble. Judge Harrison was one of our most enterprising stock buyers and best citizens and leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. He served two years as Judge of the western district and made a good official. We regret very much to be compelled to chronicle his death and sympathize with his relatives and friends.

MISS MINNIE JANE GRAY

WAYNESVILLE- Funeral services for Miss Minnie Jane Gray, 90, of Waynesville, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Moss-Williams Chapel here with the Rev. Lyle Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A longtime resident of Waynesville, Miss Gray died Friday morning in the Chronic Hospital, St. Louis, following an extended illness.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Zeigenbein, who died at 2:40 p.m. Saturday at her home, is survived by three sons, John, Richland, Ed, Crocker, and Joe, Waynesville; a daughter, Mrs. Marie Mayor, Waynesville; 26 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

WAYNESVILLE- Funeral services for Steve Gounis, 81, of Route 1, Waynesville, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church here with the Revs. Lyle cox and William Dudley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery here under direction of Moss-Williams of Waynesville.

Mr. Gounis died at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday in the Pulaski County Hospital following an extended illness. He was the owner-operator of the S.G. Motel near Waynesville.

Surviving are his wife, Flora; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Casler, of Waynesville; a sister living in Greece; and three grandchildren.

Dr. L. Tice d. 28 May 1925

DR. L. TICE PASSES AWAY

Dr. L. Tice passed away at his home at Waynesville, Mo., Friday morning. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Waynesville, on the Court House lawn, by the Rev. Hicks, pastor of the Baptist Church at Waynesville, after which the Masonic lodge took charge, and the remains were laid to rest in the Waynesville cemetery.

Dr. Tice was an old and highly respected citizen of Waynesville. He practiced medicine there for 44 years. His going will cast a shadow on on the community in which he lived. He is survived by his wife, one son, Dr. Arthur Tice, of Crocker, Mo., and one daughter, Mrs. Thos. Burchard, of Willow Springs, Mo. Many friends join in sympathy with bereaved family.

The following from Rolla attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. P.H. McGregor, Judge J.O. Holmes, B.H. Rucker, wife, and son Booker, D.I. Stuart and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wynn, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kerr and son, Homer.

Stella Claiborn d. 1 February 1974

BIG TIMBER- Mrs. Stella Claiborn, 91, died Friday morning in the Pioneer Home, where she had been a patient for four years.

She was born March 21, 1882, in Waynesville, Mo., and grew up there.

On Nov. 5, 1899. she was married to Dr. Drura Claiborn in Waynesville. They moved to Big Timber in 1907, and had lived there since. Her husband died in 1959.

Mrs. Claiborn was a past matron of Order of Eastern Star and past president of the Big Timber Women's Club.

Survivors include six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Lowry Funeral Home, with Dr. Olive Tanquary of the Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Dr. Drura Claiborn Dies, Ex-Mayor of Big Timber

Big Timber- (AP) A former mayor of this Sweet Grass County seat, Dr. Drura Claiborn died Wednesday of a heart ailment at the age of 84.

He had practiced medicine in Big Timber for 52 years and was a longtime president of the Citizens Bank & Trust Co.

Claiborn was a physician in his native Waynesville, Mo., from 1898 to 1907 when he moved to Big Timber.

Survivors include the widow, Stella, and a son, Dr. Louis N. Claiborn, Hamden, Conn.

Dr. Arthur L. Tice d. 16 October 1969

CROCKER- Funeral services for Dr. Arthur L. Tice, 82, of Crocker, will be at 2 p.m. today in the Crocker Presbyterian Church wit the Rev. Robert Bullard officiating. Burial will be in Crocker Memorial Cemetery under direction of Moss-Williams.

A practicing dentist in Crocker since 1912, Dr. Tice was a member of the Crocker Presbyterian Church. He dies at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Pulaski County Hospital, Waynesville, following a sudden illness.

Survivors include his wife, Mae; one daughter Maxine, of Crocker; one niece and one nephew.

Mary A. Hensley d. 11 February 1912

Obituary

The Angel of death visited the home of J.H. Hensley near the Berean church and took away his beloved mother, Mary A. Hensley. She was born October 18, 1852 and died February 11, 1912 and was buried at the Hazelgreen cemetery. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church for 42 years. For some time she had been slightly afflicted but seemed to bear her affliction cheerfully. Her husband and two children preceded her to the Great Beyond by several years. She leaves four children and several grand children to mourn the loss of a Christian mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed in the community in which she lived. Funeral services were conducted by the writer. J.T. Nickels

Mary E. Rains d. 13 August 1904

OBITUARY

Mary E. Rains was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, July 19th, 1841 and died at Crocker, Mo., August 13, 1904. She came with her parents to Barry County, Missouri, in 1863, was married in May of the same year to Thomas Stockton, and they came to Pulaski County the December following, where she has ever since lived.

She is the mother of seven children, one of which died in infancy, and the others all live in Pulaski County except Mrs. Belle Overby who lives in Texas. Besides her children she leaves her husband, Wash Raines, her brother and many friends and neighbors who will mourn her loss.

She has been afflicted with heart trouble for some time and for the past two years has been confined to her bed the greater part of the time.

She has been a member of the Church of Christ for nearly twenty-five years and was always at her place in the church since I have known her, if it was possible for her to be there, even when in poor health. She talked freely of death and expressed a readiness to go where the weary are at rest and there shall be no more pain. She was patient to the last. A companion and mother has gone, buy may the loved ones live so as to meet her again.

Funeral services were conducted at the church in Crocker by J.R. Blunt Sunday, August 14th at 3 p.m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the Crocker cemetery.

WAYNESVILLE- John Harrison Hensley, 87, a longtime resident of Waynesville, died at 3 a.m. today in the Waynesville General Hospital after a short illness.

He is survived by three sons, Clarence and Oba, both of Waynesville, and Roland, state of California; three daughters, Mrs. Oma Willits and Mrs. Ressie Long, both of Waynesville, and Mrs. Opal Church, Springfield; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

William T. Parrish, 53, Crocker, a civilian employee at Fort Wood for the past 10 years, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday in Waynesville General Hospital.

A cable splicer for the post signal department, Parrish previously was employed by a telephone company.

He is survived by his wife, Mae; two sons, William, Jr., Grafton, Va., and Donnie G., Crocker; his mother, Mrs. Jane Stewart, Lebanon; a sister, Mrs. Edith Hough, Lebanon; a half sister, Mrs. Cora Belle Palmer, Lebanon, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hedges Chapel at Crocker with the Revs. Norman Hale and Bill posey officiating. Burial will be in Crocker Memorial Cemetery.

Raymond Herbert Biddle, 61, foreman for the Debo Construction Company of Waynesville, died Sunday at his home near Waynesville.

His only survivor is his wife, Mary. The Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville will send the body to the Parker Funeral Home at Joplin for services and burial in Forest Park Cemetery Wednesday.
