Leora Lee Chambers, of Rolla, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Parkside Assisted Living Center at the age of 86.
She was born in Flat, Mo., on June 23, 1922, to the late Joseph R. and Lydia (Glasscock) Lewis.
In May, 1941, she married Herbert L. Chambers who preceded her in death on April 11, 1991.
Mrs. Chambers graduated from the Bloodland High School. She and her
husband established and operated Herb and Lee’s Resort on the Big Piney
River for many years. She was an avid Quilter and a member of the Beulah
Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes three
children, Ron Chambers, of Lebanon, Mo., Myrna Calhoun and husband
Smith, of Springfield, Mo., and Brenda Fowler and husband Jerry, of Hawk
Point, Mo.; one brother, Herbert Lewis, of Rolla; one sister, Audra
Acker, of Rolla; five grandchildren, Lynn Chambers, Lori Crabtree, David
Calhoun, Michael and Brian Fowler; two step grandchildren, seven great
grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members
and dear friends.
A funeral service for Leora Chambers will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday,
April 23, 2009, at the Null & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Nixon
officiating.
Interment will follow in the Big Piney Cemetery. A visitation for family
and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the
funeral home.
