Walter Christopher York, one of five children born to the union of the
late Walter D. and Bessie (Randolph) York, was born on August 12, 1936
at Wildwood, Missouri in Pulaski County.
From 1954 to 1957, Walter served his country in the U.S. Army and later the Navy.
On
June 9, 1956, Walter married Clairia L. Ballard in Rolla, Missouri.
This union was blessed with three daughters: Teresa, Vivian and Glinda.
For
over 20 years, Walter drove a bus for Trailways-Greyhound Bus Lines. He
was very artistic, and enjoyed painting and writing. He also enjoyed
working in his garden. Walter was a member of the Church of Christ in
St. Robert.
Walter departed this life the morning of January 10,
2004 at his home in Devils Elbow, Missouri, at the age of 67 years, 4
months and 28 days.
He will be very sadly missed by his wife:
Clairia of the home; three daughters: Teresa L. Kriley and husband,
David of Kansas City, Kansas, Vivian M. Williamson and husband, Neal of
Rogersville and Glinda M. Sullivan and husband, Tink of Waynesville; two
sisters: Maxine Vaughan of Waynesville and Cora Mae Dye of San Antonio,
Texas; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; several nieces,
nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Walter and Bessie, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Paul York.
Funeral
services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 13 at Waynesville
Memorial Chapel with Brother Randall Duvall officiating. Pianist, Becky
Lercher played the prelude and postlude. A recording of "Daddy's Hands"
was played. The St. Robert Church of Christ A Cappella Choir sang,
"Precious Memories" "Last Mile of the Way" and "No Tears in Heaven."
Serving as escorts were Steve Davis, Bill Edwards, Will Edwards, Kenny
Foster, Ken Miller and Cole Williamson. Honorary escorts were Paul
Bales, Jedidiah Sullivan and Jeremiah Sullivan.
Burial with
military honors followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
