Service Set For Suicide

WAYNESVILLE (Special)- Funeral services for Harry Adkins, Jr., 32, of Waynesville, who died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds at the Star Motel, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Waynesville Methodist Church with the Rev. Theodore Wolff officiating.

Mr. Adkins shot himself in the right temple with a .32-caliber revolver, state troopers said. His body was discovered about 1:30 a.m. Monday by the motel owner, Mrs. Earl Martin. He had apparently been dead since 8 p.m. Sunday, and authorities reported that he left a note explaining that he would take his life.

Survivors are his parents, Harry and Marie Adkins, Big piney; a son, Harry; a daughter, Shawn; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Winterberg, Granite City, Ill.; and six brothers, Herschel, of Ferguson, Leo, of Plato, Dale, of Kansas City, Ansel of Big Piney, Gary, of Carondelet, and John, of Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.

Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Moss-Williams of Waynesville.

Georgia Ann (Adkins) Scott 1916-1981

Georgia Ann Scott, of Dixon, was born on November 30, 1916, near Meta, Missouri, a daughter of James Lewis and Effie Belle Martin Adkins, and departed this life on Saturday afternoon, May 9, 1981, at the Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital, Columbia, following an illness of three months.  Mrs. Scott had attained the age of 64 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Mrs. Scott was united in marriage on June 14, 1937, near Meta, to Ona Bruce Scott,and to this union, two children were born.  Mr. Scott preceded his wife in death on October 2, 1965.  Mrs. Scott was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Adkins.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Scott include: One son, Kenneth Scott, Jefferson City; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Norwood, Dixon; one brother, Ray Adkins, Meta; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Christian, Ashland, and Mrs. Ruby Bryant, Iberia; two grandchildren, Darren Norwood and Donetta Moore, both of Dixon; and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Scott was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother, and will indeed be sadly missed by her dear family and all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Scott at 2:00 p.m., on Monday afternoon, May 11, 1981 at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with the Rev. Clarence Smith, Dixon United Methodist Church, officiating.  “Beyond the Sunset” and “Amazing Grace” were sung for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon.  Pallbearers for Mrs. Scott were Roy Doyle, Jerry Braun, Scott Paterson, Lonnie ___, Mark Jones, and Todd Holman.

Ruby Lee (Foster) Fields 1914-2005

Ruby Lee (Foster) Fields, daughter of the late Earl and Beulah (Adkins) Foster, was born September 23, 1914 in Spring Creek, Missouri where she grew up. She attended school at the Rolling Heath School.

On November 2, 1935, Ruby was united in marriage to Arthur A. Fields in Rolla, Missouri. They shared over 56 years of marriage together and were blessed with two sons, Norman and Douglas. Arthur preceded her in death on August 7, 1992.

Ruby worked for over twenty years for the Waynesville R-VI School District in the Food Service Department. Ruby was a member of the Pulaski County Historical Society for several years. The one thing Ruby loved doing the most and was the best at was being a mom and homemaker. She treasured the times that she spent with her family and taking care of them. She also enjoyed watching the hummingbirds every year.

Ruby passed away at 11:56 PM Friday, June 17, 2005 in her home at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Ruby will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by one son: Doug Fields and his wife, Georganna of Independence, Missouri; three sisters: Mignion Daley of Waynesville, Missouri; Martha Tucker and Mary Camp, both of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother: Kenny Foster of Waynesville, Missouri; daughter-in-law: Marge Fields of Waynesville, Missouri; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by one son: Norman; one brother: James Foster and one great-great grandson.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 24, 2005 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. A recording of the song "When I Look In The Sky was played. Serving as escorts were Dick Daley, Ron Fields, Anthony Foster, Terry Foster, Dennis Leuchen and Ron Tucker. Serving as honorary escort was Jim Fields.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Wanda June (Rose) Adkins 1927-2008

Wanda June Adkins, daughter of the late Milan and Margaret (Miller) Rose, was born March 21, 1927 in Dixon, Missouri where she grew up. Wanda attended Needmore School from grades 1-8 and had to walk 3 miles each way in order to attend. She later lived with her sister, Gladys, and graduated from Waynesville High School. As a young child, Wanda accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized.

On July 7, 1945, Laurence was united in marriage to Wanda June Rose at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri. They shared over 62 wonderful years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Duane, Doug and Janet. Laurence preceded Wanda in death on January 3, 2008.

Wanda was a woman who worked hard and took great pride in helping to provide for her family. She was employed for 20 years at the Department of the Army Quartermaster Corp. In her spare time, she loved to cook and plan enormous family Christmas celebrations that brought her great joy. She enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, fishing, canning vegetables and making jelly. She treasured the times that she could spend with her grandchildren. After her family, Wanda loved going to church. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church of Waynesville while her health permitted her to do so and she greatly valued the friendships of her church family. Wanda was also previously a member of the Waynesville/St. Robert Lioness Club.

Wanda went home to be reunited with her Lord and Laurence at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Wanda will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by three children: Duane Adkins (Tammy) of O'Fallon, MO, Doug Adkins (Debra) of Richland, MO and Janet Sands (Charles) of Waynesville, MO; five siblings: Everald Rose and Marvin Rose both of Dixon, MO, John Rose of Indianapolis, IN, Helen Berquist of Saratoga, CA and Wilma Keeth of Paradise, CA; five grandchildren: Duke Adkins, Kimberly Adkins, Michelle Woody, Rebecca Johnson and Kyla Birdsong; three step-grandchildren: Chelsea, Aron and Brandon Taylor; six great grandchildren: Wayland Adkins, Roy Woody, Fred Johnson, Lakeysha Johnson, Duane Woody and Brandon Moore; one great-great grandson: Braden Moore and Wanda was eagerly awaiting the arrival of another great-grandson, Kaiden Birdsong; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was preceded in death by four sisters: Gladys, Della, Ruth and Dorothy; and two brothers: Pearl and Drew.

Audrey B. (Adkins) Adams 1921-2006

Audrey B. Adams was born April 30, 1921 near Norcatur, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late Dawson and Minnie (Ankenman) Adkins.

Audrey went home to be with her Lord the evening of May 25, 2006 in the Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Texas, at the age of 85 years and 24 days.

When Audrey was a young girl, her family moved to Nebraska where she graduated from the Wilsonville High School in 1939. She worked in her family's restaurant from age 11 until her graduation.

Audrey was united in marriage with Joseph Adams, and together they shared one daughter, Carolyn, and one son, Larry. Joe preceded Audrey in death on February 27, 1990.

From 1943 to 1948, Audrey worked as a bookkeeper at the Hinze Hardware Store in Culbertson, Nebraska. She and Joe later moved to the Crocker, Missouri area where she began volunteering at the Fort Leonard Wood Hospital. Her efforts were recognized by receiving the Volunteer of the Month and of the Quarter at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. She also served as a Red Cross Volunteer for 22 years. Audrey loved it when the young soldiers called her "Grandma".

In 1932, Audrey was baptized in the Christian Church in Wilsonville, Nebraska. Upon moving to Crocker, she moved her membership to the Presbyterian Church. She was very active in her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, an Elder, Junior Choir Director and sang in the choir.

Audrey was also very active in the Crocker Senior Citizen's Center (past president), the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, DAV, Crocker Chamber of Commerce, and the Royal Neighbor Lodge in Iberia, to name a few. Audrey enjoyed adding to her vast teddy bear collection of over 300 bears.

She will be sadly missed by one daughter: Carolyn Julius and her husband, Dale of Gainesville, MO; one son: Rev. Larry Adams and his wife, Dorothy of Clyde, Texas; five grandchildren: Eddie Joe, Pamala, Michael, Melinda and Kristina; several great and great-great grandchildren along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 in the Crocker Presbyterian Church of Crocker, MO with Pastor Steve Bomely officiating. Pianist Betty Layman accompanied the congregation as they sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Amazing Grace". Soloist Randy Hoffman sang "It Is Well With My Soul". Serving as escorts were family and friends.

Burial followed in the Crocker Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Audrey Adams to the Juvenile Diabetes Association and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

James C. “Jim” Foster 1930-1986

James C. “Jim” Foster was born a son of Clarence Earl Foster and Beulah (Adkins) Foster on February 2, 1930 in Waynesville, Missouri and he departed this life November 11, 1986 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at the age of 56 years.

Jim was united in marriage to Karen Dover June 19, 1957 and to this union three children were born, Timothy, Terry, and Tawanjia Foster.

Jim was baptized into Christ in 1972 and was a member of the Waynesville Church of Christ.

In addition to his deep love for his family and many friends, Jim had a great talent and commitment as a Country Western singer and writer and he had made several recordings and tapes.  This something that will live on in his memory.  Jim had a great sense of humor and a “dry” wit.  He was a hard worker and took pride in it.

Jim was a retired businessman, and was a life-long resident of Pulaski County.

He is survived by two sons, Timothy Foster of University City, Missouri, and Terry Foster of Waynesville, Missouri; one daughter, Tawnjia Foster of Waynesville, Missouri; two grandsons, Chase and Grant Foster; one brother, Kenny Foster of Waynesville, Missouri; four sisters, Mignion Daley of Waynesville, Missouri; Ruby Field of St. Robert, Missouri; Martha Tucker and Mary Camp, both of St. Louis, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.

Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Dick Stovall officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Sadie Navarre, and a quartet: Don Russell, Tony Smith, Curt Virgin, and Ward Wood, Jr.

Escorts were: Mark Abbott, Bill Davenport, Jonathan Foster, Mike Melton, Richard Riddle, and Junior Wimberly.

Honorary escorts were: Eric Foster, Mark Melton, and Robin Taylor.

Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Irena Adkins Sherman d. 30 August, 2009

VIENNA – Irena Sherman, 99, of Vienna, died Aug. 30, 2009, in the Maries Manor Health and Rehab Center.
Funeral is at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel. All arrangements are under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Peggy Adkins 1947-2009

August 27th, 1947 - July 29th, 2009

Peggy Faye Adkins, daughter of James A. Fielder and Clara Mae (West) James, was born August 27, 1947 in Paducah, Kentucky. As a young girl, Peggy grew up and attended school in Murray, Kentucky. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Peggy was a wonderful mother and she was blessed with three children: Sheila, Rhonda and Richie. She always did what she could to provide for them and was there for them. On October 31, 1981, Peggy was united in marriage to Bill Adkins. They shared over 20 years of marriage together before he preceded her in death on July 5, 2002. Peggy was a very giving person and had the talent of caring for the elderly. She worked in a nursing home while living in Carrollton, Missouri for several years and after moving to the Ozarks, she managed the Applewood Group Home in Lebanon, Missouri for a few years. She loved helping people that could not care for themselves and was always looking for ways to make their lives a little bit better. In her spare time, Peggy enjoyed reading and visiting with friends and family. She had the gift of gab and all she had to do was find someone to listen. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. She adored them and they were her whole world. Peggy passed away at 10:35 A.M. Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at her residence at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 2 days. She will be sadly missed by everyone that knew her. Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her parents: James and Jean Fielder of Murray, KY and Clara James of the state of TN; three children: Sheila Acosta of St. Robert, MO, Rhonda Rowland of Lebanon, MO and Richie Brawner of Eldridge, MO; seven siblings: Christy Thomasson, Kevin Fielder, Patsy Powell and Glenna Pritchert, all of the state of KY, Billy James of the state of TN, Robert James of the state of TX and George Bell of the state of FL; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10:00 - 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 1, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory. Private burial followed in the Mt. Rose Memorial Park Cemetery of Lebanon, Missouri.
