Carolyn Kay (Day) Wyatt 1942-2005

Carolyn Kay Wyatt, daughter of Gordon and Beatrice (Wilson) Day, was born March 14, 1942 in Macon, Missouri. Carolyn graduated from Camdenton High School in 1960.

Carolyn went home to be with the Lord at 11:30 P.M., April 4, 2005 after courageously battling a malignant and very aggressive brain tumor for twenty-one months. She had attained the age of 63 years and 21 days.

Carolyn was assured of eternal life and a home in heaven after accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She then followed the Lord in obedience with believer's baptism to demonstrate outwardly what she had experienced inwardly. She was a faithful member of Maranatha Baptist Church of St. Robert, Missouri.

In 1960, Carolyn was united in marriage to Bobbie Baker of Richland, Missouri. They were blessed with two daughters, Kimberly Yvonne and Angela Kay.

In 1987, Carolyn married William "Bill" Wyatt of Waynesville, Missouri. They were married for fifteen wonderful years before Bill's homegoing to heaven in January of 2002.

From 1979 to 1987, Carolyn was employed by the Pulaski County Clerks office. In 1987, she went to work for the Laquey R-5 School District where she held positions of teacher's aide and middle school secretary. She was forced into early retirement due to her illness in 2002.

Carolyn enjoyed music greatly. She served the Lord in her church by playing the organ, piano, singing, and decorating for special events. She played the piano and sang at many weddings and church events over the years. Carolyn was a very gifted interior decorator and her home was often likened to a "museum". She decorated such that it looked as though it came out of a page of a magazine. She loved collecting antiques, creating scrapbooks, creating her own craft works and traveling coast to coast to see her daughters and grandchildren.

Carolyn will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her two daughters: Kimberly Tidquist and her husband, Douglas and Angela Dodge and her husband, Eric all of Silver Spring, Maryland; mother: Beatrice Day of Waynesville; brother: Brent Day and his wife, Sheila of Waynesville; sister: Laura Matthews and her husband, Trent of St. James; brothers: Nathan Day and his wife, Sarah of Marshall, Quintin Day and his wife, Vicki of Lebanon and Eric Day of Waynesville; two uncles: Larry Day and his wife, Betty of Haxton, Colorado and Gene Day and his wife, Mabel of Macon, Missouri; one aunt: Gaberella Dunn of Macon, Missouri; one cousin: J.P. Dunn of Columbia, MO; five grandchildren: Kirsten, Kaitlin, Gretchen, Ryker and Rachel; fourteen nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her father: Gordon Day; paternal grandparents: Norris and Laura Day; maternal grandmother: Gladys Harding; her great aunt and uncle: June and Don Plank and uncle: John F. Dunn.

Betty Ann (Baker) Southwick 1935-2009

Betty Southwick passed away at 9:10 p.m., Thursday, November 19 at Bethesda South Gate Center in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Betty was born May 26, 1935 to the union of Floyd and Ila Mae (Vick) Baker in Jasper, Alabama where she grew up. She graduated from Walker County High School in Jasper and then attended Walker College, also in Jasper.

Betty began working in Birmingham and while there met the love of her life, Walter Fuller Southwick who was a soldier with the United States Army. They were married on May 5, 1955 in Jasper. They shared over 46 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children: Mona Louise, William “James”, Regina Marie, Sarah Anne and Lewis Duncan.

Due to Walter being a military man, Betty and the family moved wherever he was stationed and ended up in Fort Leonard Wood the first time in 1959. After being moved to several different locations, the family finally settled in St. Robert in 1967 when Walter retired from the military and they raised their children in the St. Robert area.

Besides raising her family, Betty enjoyed sewing, quilting and doing other crafts. She was very talented with these things and made beautiful items for her family and friends.

At an early age, Betty accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in St. Robert where she attended faithfully until her health began failing. She also volunteered at ACS, the Senior Center and the Life Care Center.

Betty will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her five children: Mona Ison of Riverdale, Utah, William James Southwick (Sharon) of St. Louis, Regina Nellum, Sarah Campo (Paul) of the state of Florida and Lewis Southwick of Houston, Texas; two brothers: Frank Baker (Sharon) of Jasper, Alabama and John Baker (Sue) of St. Robert; 12 grandchildren: Kalem, Jeremy, Kendra, Isaac, Lance, Sharna, LeEssense, Karis, Brittany, Morgan, Jimmy and Johanna; 9 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband on January 12, 2002.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. Keith Carnahan officiating. Betty’s son, James read the obituary and the songs “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden” were played. Serving as escorts were Jimmy Childers, Isaac Southwick, Lance Southwick, Lewis Southwick, Scott Taylor and Jeremy Ison. Serving as honorary escorts were John Baker, Brandon Ison, Kalem Ison, Austin Ison, Preston Ison, Jeremiah Ison, Russell Seeley and Rusty Seeley.

Burial followed in the Hooker Cemetery of Devils Elbow, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

May 26th, 1935 - November 19th, 2009

Mary Edna Baker 1902-1984

Mary Edna Baker, 81, Florida Baptist Retirement Center, 1006 33rd Street, Vero Beach, died February 11, 1984 at her residence.

She was born August 11, 1902 in Canton, Ohio, and had been a resident of Indian River County for the past 19 years, moving to Vero Beach from Richland, Missouri.

Mr. & Mrs. Baker were the owners of Baker’s Pharmacy in Richland for 21 years prior to their retirement.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vero Beach and was a Sunday School teacher there for 19 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, Fred E. Baker of Vero Beach; two sons, Fred E. Baker Jr. of Vero Beach and George L. Baker of Evansville, Indiana; one sister, Birdie Grant of Vero Beach; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were February 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Vero Beach, with the Rev. Dr. J. Charmes Holmes, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment in Crestlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made to the First Baptist Church Bus Fund, 2206 16th Ave., Vero Beach, FLA.

Travis Lowery 1915-1977

Travis Lowery, son of John and Mary Ann Baker Lowery, was born November 23, 1905 in Maize, Kansas and departed this life December 15, 1977 at his home in Laquey.

On January 16, 1937 he was united in marriage to Vera Trower, and to this union was born six children, all of whom survive.

Travis professed his faith in Christ at age sixteen and has been a member of the Idumea Baptist Church for many years, where he taught Sunday School as long as his health allowed.

He worked for the State Highway Department for twenty-two years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one half brother, one half sister and an infant granddaughter.

Caleb Baker 1903-1904

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

Caleb, (called Capie N.) son of Charles and the late Dora Baker, was born in Hobson, Dent Co., MO, July 15th 1903 and after the death of its mother Sept. 22d 1903 he has lived with his Aunt Nannie Seisser until his death Nov. 25th 1904 near Laquey, MO, aged 1 yr, 4 ms, & 10 ds. Funeral discourse at Idumea Ch. on Sat., Nov. 26th. Text from Matt. 18X10 after which he was buried in the Idumea Cemetery at 3 p.m. Only child.
