Amos Franklin Deer 1874-1899

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

Amos Franklin Deer, was born near Moab in Pulaski Co., MO, Aug. 27, 1874, and was a son of the late John and Louvisa V. Deer. Was of a family of 9 children, 3 of whom survive him, namely: sister Annie Maze, sister Mary Jane Whitaker, and Master Walter Deer and his mother still living. June 18th 1893 he was married to sister Susie Jane Whitaker, daughter of Wm. M. & Mary M. Whitaker, who died Oct. 24th 1897 aged 22 years, 4 ms & 12 ds. Having 3 children born unto them two of whom survive the parents. Frank was sick only 6 or 7 days and died near Moab Post Office in Pulaski Co., MO, January 5th 1899 aged 24 ys, 4 ms and 8 days. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Pleasant Hill Church. At 11 a.m. at the Maze School House, May 28th 1899, Sunday from Isaiah 48X10

Susie Jane (Whitaker) Deer 1875-1897

Susie Jane Deer, wife of Amos Franklin Deer and daughter of William M. and Mary M. Whitaker, was born in Pulaski County, KY, June 12, 1875 and died near Moab P.O. in Pulaski County, MO, Oct. 24, 1897, aged 22 ys, 4 ms and 12 ds. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Ellsworth Church May 8, 1898 at 11 a.m., Sunday, from Phil. 1X21. Husband, 2 children, father, mother, 4 brothers and 4 sisters present. J. J. Watts
