Thelma K. (King) Chalfant 1902-1981

Thelma K. Chalfant, daughter of Henry and Elsie Belle Davis King, was born May 3, 1902 in Minier, Illinois, and departed this life January 1, 1981, in Phelps County Memorial Hospital in Rolla, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to David Henry Chalfant, and to this union was born one son and four daughters.

She was a life long member of the Church of Christ.

She began her teaching career in Dixon, Missouri at the Elementary School in 1919.  When her own children were school age she began teaching again and continued her profession in Camden, Morgan, Cass, Phelps, Crawford, and Pulaski Counties, until retiring in 1965.  She taught at Fort Leonard Wood after retiring, which made a total of more than forty years as an educator.

She has written three books and two of which have been published entitled, “Heart’s Treasury” and “Love Thy Neighbor”.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 4, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Zumwalt and Rev. Reavil Hankins officiating.

Burial was in Chalfant Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers were: Roger Collins, Lewis Jones, Lewis McCarthy, Raymond Mings, Monty Morgan and Edward Ray Collins.

She is survived by four daughters, Essie Collins of Big Piney, Maxine Scott of Montreal, Missouri, Ilene Shorey of Bangor, Maine, Mary Sue Chalfant of Waynesville, Missouri; three brothers, Lewis King of Kansas City, Missouri, Hollis J. King of St. Louis, Missouri, Woodrow King, of Cuba, Missouri; two sisters, Berniece Licklider of St. Louis, Missouri, and Iris Southard of St. James, Missouri; twenty-seven grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, David Hollis, three brothers, Harry, Richard, and Champ King; and infant brother and sister, and two grandsons.

William Bertly Fenton 1920-2004

William Bertly Fenton, son of the late Charles E and Nancy E (King) Fenton, was born May 23, 1920 near Lebanon, Missouri.

Bill enlisted in the United States Army on November 25, 1942 and served his country until his honorable discharge on November 27, 1945. For his faithful service to his country, Bill was awarded five Bronze Stars for campaigns in Normandy, N. France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He also was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with 3 Overseas Bars, and the Victory Ribbon.

After returning home from the service, Bill was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Hance in Baxter County, Arkansas on June 18, 1947. They shared over 35 years of marriage together and were blessed with eight children: Charlie, Billy, Donnie, Jackie, Charles, JoAnn, Debra and Barbara Ann.

Bill was a shoe cobbler by trade. He worked for his father as a young boy repairing men's and women's shoes. He became a cab driver and worked on Fort Leonard Wood for many years before becoming a custodian for the Waynesville school district. In his free time, Bill enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was building things or working outside in his garden. He always had a smile and was happy to see family and friends.

Bill passed away at 8:15 A.M. Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Waynesville at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 20 days.

Bill will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by five sons: Charlie Hance and his wife, Annette, Billy Fenton and his wife, Stephanie and Charles E. Fenton all of Waynesville, Donnie Fenton and his wife, Beverly of Roby and Jackie Fenton and his wife, Missie of St. Robert; two daughters: JoAnn Simpson of Marshall, Virginia and Debra Baker and her husband, Terry of Newburg; one sister: Wilma Adair of Kirkwood, MO; 14 grandchildren: Angie, Michele, Beth, Lesa, Chasity, Stacey, Jackie Dale, Brian, Mary, Daisy, Allison, Scott, Cassie and Danielle; 15 great grandchildren: Brittani, Hailey, Colten, Colby, Chance, Cody, Dakota, Troy, Madison, Quintin, Katy Jo, Madison, Logan, Anthony and Terrahn; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter: Barbara Ann Fenton; one grandson: Stephen Baker and two brothers: Everett and Robert Fenton.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 15, 2004 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Breeden officiating. The songs "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were played. Serving as escorts were Colten Carmack, Nathan Carmack, Billy Fenton, Charles Fenton, Jackie Fenton, Jr., Pat Fincher, Chuck Ousley and Jack Williams. Serving as honorary escorts were Brian Baker, Cody Fenton and Terry Wood.

Burial with military honors followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Alpha Arlene (McClendon) Admire 1934-1991

Alpha Arlene Admire, 57, Tuscumbia, died Monday at St. Marys Health Center. She was born May 8, 1934, a daughter of Clarence Edward and Mabel Rea King McClendon. She was married Aug. 17, 1959, in Miami, Okla., to John Elknah Admire, who died Dec. 22, 1985.

She was employed in the kitchen at the Miller County Nursing Home until 1987. She attended the Pentecostal Church in Tuscumbia.

Survivors include: two sons, Karl Admire, Tuscumbia, and John Allen Admire, Iberia; two daughters, Thelma Rea Dake, Imperial, and Beryl Wilson, Dixon; three brothers, Bill McClendon and Dennis McClendon, both of Dixon and John McClendon, Crocker; three sisters, Zelma Kennedy, Lebanon, Rose Prewett, Dixon, and Eunice Stauffer, Williamstown, N.J.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dixon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dixon Chapel of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home.

Walter Eugene Clark 1927-2006

Walter Eugene Clark, of Waynesville, MO, died Sunday morning, February 5, 2006 at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 15 days.

Walter was born August 21, 1927 at Hazelgreen, MO in Pulaski County. He was one of five children born to the union of the late Lester H. and Ruby Carmen (King) Clark Doty.

On August 21, 1946, Walter was united in marriage with Kathleen Pruitt and to this union, two sons were born, Donald and Douglas. Both Kathleen and their son, Donald preceded Walter in death.

Walter attended Waynesville schools and was a member of First Baptist Church. He managed his own rental property and heavy equipment businesses for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and running his heavy equipment.

Walter will be sadly missed by his son: Douglas L. Clark of Kansas City, MO; two brothers: Donald L. Clark and his wife, Shirley of Lebanon, MO and Gary Clark of Laquey, MO; three nephews: Larry Williams, Mike Clark and Larry Clark; three nieces: Debbie Pendleton, Iris Barnhart and Sherri Hammock, along with several other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, his wife, and his son, Walter was also preceded in death by one sister: Vera Williams and two brothers: Beauford and Gilbert.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 in the Memorial Chapel of Waynesville with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "Down At The Cross" and "The Way of the Cross Leads Home". Serving as escorts were family and friends.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Beauford Clark 1930-2004

Beauford Clark, son of the late Lester and Ruby (King) Clark was born February 5, 1930 near Hazelgreen, Missouri.

Beauford attended the old one room Bellfonte schoolhouse. He graduated form Waynesville High School in 1948. After high school Beauford worked at various jobs including driving a taxi cab with his brother, Walter.

In 1950 Beauford was drafted into the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict. Beauford was awarded various medals and commendations for stellar service and bravery.

After returning from War, Beauford was united in marriage on July 29, 1962 to Betty Jean Manning. Together they shared six children and over 41 years of marriage.

Beauford worked as a civil service mechanic for over 30 years. He began his second career as a school bus driver for the Waynesville R-VI School District in 1990. He took great pride in transporting children to school and various other activities. He loved kids and they loved and respected him.

When Beauford wasn't working you could see him about town. He enjoyed visiting with his friends at the coffee shop or just tinkering with his 67 Chevy pick-up and 53 Ford tractor. He was blessed with the ability to fix or repair most anything.

Beauford departed this life at 10:15 PM Friday, May 21, 2004 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the age of 73 years.

He is survived by his wife Betty of the home; two daughters: Debbie Pendleton and her husband Keith of Waynesville and Lori Kampen and her husband John of Endeavor, Wisconsin; two sons: Larry Clark and his wife Michelle of Clever and Mike Clark of Dixon; two brothers: Walter Clark of Waynesville and Donald Clark of Lebanon; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, several other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Beauford was preceded in death by two sons: Greg and Danny; one sister, Neva Williams and one brother.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 24, 2004 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "Precious Memories" and "How Great Thou Art". The song "Wind Beneath My Wings" was played. The American Legion Post 240 presented a certificate to the family in appreciation of Beauford's faithful service to his country. Serving as escorts were Joshua Clark, Larry Clark, Tyler Clark, John Kampen and Keith Pendleton.

Burial with military honors followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the United States Army, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Beauford Clark to the Waynesville R-VI Scholarship Fund and may be left at the funeral home.

Wilma June (King) Crane 1935-2012

Wilma June Crane, of Dixon, was born on April 1, 1935, at Rolla, a daughter of Lee and Etta (Williams) King and departed this life at 3:17 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mrs. Crane had been in failing health and had attained the age of 76 years, 10 months and 16 days. 

Mrs. Crane was united in marriage on October 27, 1951 at Salem, Arkansas to Jack L. Crane and to this union, five children were born. She was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Crane; one grandson, Chris Crane; her parents and three brothers, Denzel King, Claude King and Bill King.

Mrs. Crane enjoyed going to yard sales and antiques. She was a housewife and homemaker all her working life, always diligent in providing for her family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Crane include: her husband, Jack Crane of the home near Dixon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Crane and Wesley and Tammy Crane, all of Dixon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deloris and Mike Walters, Camdenton and Angela and James Wodohodsky, Dixon; one brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Rosie King, Mt. Holly, Arkansas; one sister, Winnie Prewett, Rolla; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Crane at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Rev. Dan Biggs, New Beginnings Revival Center, Waynesville, officiating. Two favorite musical selections, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were played for the service.

Interment was in the Pisgah Cemetery near Dixon, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Crane were Mike Walters, Jeff Crane, James Wodohodsky, Glen Chaffin, Kolten Kelley and Steven Flemming. Honorary pallbearers were John Dohner, Ronnie Copeland, Lonnie Hardwick and Wesley Crane.

Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon.

Ivy Sybal (Jones) King 1908-1984

Ivy Sybal King, daughter of Jim and Grace Clarington Jones, was born in Shamrock, Texas on July 11, 1908, and departed this life August 9, 1984 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri at the age of 76 years.

She was united in marriage with Roy King on November 22, 1930.

Sybal was a member of the Christian Church in Richland for nearly 30 years, and recently moved her membership to the Independence Baptist Church.

She was employed as a waitress most of her life, and worked in various states, including Minnesota, Oklahoma, and also Richland in that profession. At home she enjoyed knitting, embroidering, and crocheting, until she lost her eyesight.

Preceding her in death are her parents, and three sisters, Ezma, Bobbie, and Flora May.

Sybal leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Roy, of the home; three brothers, Lewis Jones of the State of Pennsylvania, Franklin Jones of California, and Baxter Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Ruth Jones, of California; and other relatives and friends.

Services for Ivy Sybal King were held at Independence Baptist Church 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 12, 1984. Officiating at the services were Rev. Raymond McClary. Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist, Marcia Shadel, organist. Burial was in the Hazelgreen Cemetery. Escorts were: Ralph Posten, Edward Ozee, David Robinson, Fred Wilson, Richard Robinson, Virgil Shelton. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels of Richland, Missouri.

Martin M. Barlow 1898-1994

Services for Martin M. Barlow were held Monday, March 7, 1994 in the Colonial Chapel of Lebanon, Mo., with Rev. Bill Elam officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery, under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapel of Lebanon.
Music was by Rusty Shadel, soloist and Marcia Shadel, organist.
Escorts were Murel Amos, Ryszard Gottifried, Jesse Elam, Mark Fingers, Denny Lambeth and Don Clark.
Martin M. Barlow, son of Tennis and Rosie King Barlow, was born in Pulaski County on January 18, 1898, and departed this life March 4, 1994 in Richland, Mo., at the age of ninety-six years.
He was united in marriage with Grace Watson in June of 1920, and to this union five children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; one son, Jim Barlow; and one daughter, Sandra Barlow.
Martin owned and operated a dairy farm in the Pulaski County area for many years. He also managed the dairy farm at the Baptist Home in Ironton, Mo. for a number of years. He has been a lifetime member of the Berean Baptist Church.
Those surviving include his three sons, Martin J. Barlow of Richland, Donald Barlow of Peoria, Illinois and Tommy Barlow; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Martin is also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Virgil, Herbert, Arthur and Harrison; two sisters, Ida and Edna Barlow; two infant brothers; and a half brother, George.
Martin attended Chillicothe Normal College in the early 1900's. He enjoyed playing the flute and was even able to play in the last few months of his life.

Peggy Sharon (Cardin) Waak Harrison 1942-2009

Peggy Sharon Waak Harrison, was born on September 17, 1942, in rural Dixon, a daughter of William Doral and Mellie Sue (King) Cardin, and departed this life, with her family around her, at 9:14 p.m., Friday evening, April 3, 2009, at her residence near Dixon. Peggy had been ill for the past few months and had attained the age of 66 years, 6 months and 17 days.

Peggy was united in marriage on October 26, 1962, at Dixon, to Dale Waak who preceded her in death on October 11, 1986. She was later united in marriage on April 9, 1991, at Lebanon to James R. “Jim” Harrison. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by one son, David Waak on May 3, 1995; her father on October 3, 2008; her mother on September 5, 2003; and her sister, Carolyn Cardin on October 23, 1987.

Peggy was a member of Pisgah Church, near Dixon, were she had taught Sunday School for many years. She had worked as a nurse’s aid in the Dixon School system and later for Lynch’s Furniture. She took great pride in helping with the perpetual care for the Pisgah Cemetery and loved being outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing and being with her family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Peggy include: her husband: Jim Harrison, of Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Donnie Robertson, Dixon; two stepdaughters, Gina Kean, state of Florida and Sherry Ortiz, state of Georgia; one brother and sister-in-law, James “Jim” and Janet Cardin, Dixon; three granddaughters, Desri Robertson, Dixon; Mandie Waak, Argyle; and Kelsey Waak, state of Indiana; seven step grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Peggy at 11:00 A.M., Monday, April 6, 2009, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon, with Bro. Steve Lynch officiating. “Sissy’s Song” and “Supper Time” were sung for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Pisgah Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Peggy were Donnie Robertson, Ronnie Brown, Travis Hardesty, Brian Holtsclaw, Brent Holtsclaw and Jon Rigsby. Honorary pallbearers were David Holzer and Clarence Purcell.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested by the family to the Pisgah Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.
