Fred C. “Robby” Robinson 1915-1986

Fred C. “Robby” Robinson of Waynesville, Missouri, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, January 7, 1915, the son of Frederick H. and Marie (Bailey) Robinson, and departed this life May 27, 1986 at the age of 71 years, four months, 20 days.

Fred was married to Reba Roberts on December 7, 1973.

Fred spent 22 years in the Army, having enlisted in June of 1939 and retired from the Army in June of 1945.  He re-enlisted in 1949 and retired in October of 1965.  He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Beirut, Lebanon.  Fred served his country well.

After retirement from the Army, he worked several years for the Civil Service.

Fred was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the V.F.W. Post 3176.

Fred is survived by his wife, Reba of the home in Waynesville; two sons: Robert Alan Robinson, Springfield; Virginia and James Edward Robinson of Salem, Oregon; one step-son, Douglas Arlin Moore of Los Angeles, California; two step-daughters: Phyllis Wood of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Jeanine Sullivan of Constabieville, New York; 11 grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends.

“Robby” will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 31, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Captain Harry E. Colter officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Dorothy Moore.

Interment was in the Ozark Memorial V.F.W. Cemetery in St. Robert under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

James Monroe Shelton 1917-1986

James Monroe Shelton was born in Maries County, Missouri on November 11, 1917 the son of James Franklin and Alma Bailey Shelton and passed away on May 12, 1986.  He had attained the age of 68 years.

He is survived by his mother, Alma Shelton of Dixon, 3 sisters, Lorene Gaylord of St. Peters, Caroline Alexander of Dixon and Yvonne Sloan of Shell Knob, Missouri, 1 brother Tom Shelton of Dixon with numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his Father, James Franklin Shelton.

James served his country in the Navy, Army, and Air Force with several years of foreign duty.  He was a loving and devoted son to his Mother and Father.  He has been very helpful and supportive in the care of his Mother who is in the Heritage Park Nursing Home in Rolla.  He graduated with a B.S. degree from the Wichita University and for the last 15 years was the Finance Manager at the Diehl Montgomery Car Agency in Rolla.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon on Wednesday, May 14, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Charles Pitts and Brother Earl Jones officiating.

Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Jim Sloan, Buel Alexander, Justin Shelton, Bill and Harold Switzer and Jack Alexander.  Honorary pallbearers were Sonny Potter, Steve and Vernon Shelton, Ronnie Sloan and Hurschall Alexander. 

Sallie M.(Bradford) Bailey 1882-1972

Sallie M.Bailey,daughter of James and Martha Bradford was born Feb 14,1882 in Bloodland,MO and passed away Dec 14,1972 in Pulaski County Memorial Hospital.

She was the oldest of nine children in a family of Pulaski county pioneers.She attended school in Bloodland and Waynesville.She later taught schools in the county for several years.

She was united in marriage to Lester Meade Bailey on Nov.8,1904 and three children,James,Lillian and Florence were born to this union.Florence (Mrs.Clif Bobzien) preceded her in death.

They lived in Bloodland until 1913 when they moved to a farm on the Gasconade River near Pippin Place.In 1920 they moved to Waynesville where she lived for 52yrs.She was a member of Methodist Church,active and faithful as long as her health allowed.

Funeral services were held 2pm Saturday Dec.18,1972 at the United Methodist Church with Rev.William Everdyke officiating.

Burial was in Waynesville Memorial Park with her grandsons acting as escorts.

Survivors are one son,James of Jefferson City; one daughter,Lillian(James)Robertson of Charleston,IL;one sister,Dr.Clara Harding of Springfield;four brothers,Emmett,Glen,John and Bland;six grandsons and eight great-grandchildren.

Lola Mae (Wilson) Bailey 1909-1985

Lola Mae Bailey, daughter of George and Georgia Carter Wilson was born June 2, 1909 in Laclede County and departed this life February 14, 1985 in Waynesville, Missouri at the age of 75 years.

She was united in marriage with Henry Bailey on November 20, 1942 and to this union was born two daughters. Upon their marriage she accepted the responsibility of helping rear Henry’s three children three children by a previous marriage.

Lola professed her faith in Jesus Christ as a young girl and in 1942 became a member of the Berean Baptist Church. In 1977 she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Richland where she was a very active member. She taught Sunday School and during the summer she often taught Bible School.

She attended Bolivar College and graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, holding Missouri Teaching Certificates. Lola taught in the Richland and Waynesville School systems for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of the Missouri Teachers Association.

Lola is survived by one son, Elmer of Des Moines, Iowa; four daughters, Dorothy Sites of St. Clair; Martha Ogle of Springfield, Missouri; Mary Johnson of Richmond, Virginia; Georgia Smith of Ouzinki, Alaska; two sisters, Wilma Atkins of Lebanon, and Edna Gouge of Stoutland; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 1985 with Rev. Roger Marshall and Rev. Norman Sanders officiating. Burial was in the Berean Cemetery under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapels.

Escorts were: Leo Long, Donald Storie, Chester Woody, Jack long, Cleo Long, Doug Storie, Ronnie Dye, and George Douglas Black.

Henry E. Bailey 1908-1977

Henry E. Bailey was born September 17, 1908, and passed away April 17, 1977, at the Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri, after attaining the age of 68 years and 7 months.

Henry spent his entire life’s activities in Pulaski County. He taught school, managed Shady Grove General Store, farmed, and served his county for 17 ½ years in the capacities of Presiding Judge and County Clerk. Mr. Bailey was a member of the Richland Lodge #385, Scottish Rite Body of Joplin, Missouri and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple of Springfield. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church, where he faithfully served for 36 years.

Henry was preceded in death by a son, Harry Lloyd, and the mother of his three of his surviving children.

He is survived by his wife, Lola, of the home, one son, Elmer of West Des Moines, Iowa; four daughters, Mary Johnson of Richmond, Virginia, Martha Ogle of Springfield, Missouri, Georgia Smith of Ouzinkie, Alaska and Dorothy Sikes of St. Clair, Missouri, two sisters Ruth Long of Richland, Missouri, and Opal Storie of Waynesville, Missouri, one foster cousin, Robert Deaton of Peoria, Illinois, and ten grandchildren.

Henry’s death creates a great void within the lives of relatives, friends, and the Berean Church.

Masonic services were held April 19, 7:30 p.m. at the Long Moss Williams Chapel in Waynesville. Funeral services were held April 20, 1977 at the Berean Baptist Church 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Norman Sanders and Arthur Gormley officiating. Burial was in the Berean Cemetery under the direction of Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Pallbearers were: Claudie Laughlin, George Lane, Bill Morgan, Cleo Long, Leo Long, Chester Woody. Honorary pallbearers were: Jack Long, Dale Long, Preston Woody, Doug Storie, Don Storie, James Bailey, Kenneth Howlett, Reed Howlett, warren Watson, Merele Amos, Harrison Barlow, Brown Johnson, Jim Bailey, Claude Morgan, Joe Morgan, Bill Jones, Paul Long, Paul Ray, Joe Thornsberry, Wayne Anderson, David Adkins, Jim Laughlin, Noel Martin, Roy Lee Dye, Chester Dye, and Harvey Dye.

Lester Meade Bailey 1879-1960

Lester Bailey, Prominent Resident Succumbed Monday of Heart Attack

Lester M. Bailey, son of Andrew R. and Mary A. (Brownlee) Bailey was born in Bailey, Missouri (near what used to be Bloodland, Missouri) on April 18, 1879 and departed this life at 8:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 1960 at his home in Waynesville at the age of 81 years, 4 months, and 4 days. His passing came as a great shock to the entire community. He had been a life long resident of Pulaski County.

On November 6, 1904 he was united in marriage to Sallie M. Bradford. To this union one son and two daughters were born. Before his retirement a number of years ago, he was a farmer and stockman. For the past 40 years they have resided in the City of Waynesville.

Those left to mourn his death are his wife, Sallie, of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Florence B. Bobzien of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Lillian Robertson of Charleston, Illinois, a son, James A. Bailey of Jefferson City, Missouri, a sister Mrs. Jennie Davis of Versalles, Missouri, six grandsons, three great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

When a young man he was converted and at the time of his death was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church. His passing will be a great loss to his family and many, many friends of this community.

Funeral services were held August 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville United Methodist church with Rev. Vernon Schmidt officiating, assisted by Rev. Geo Turner. Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial cemetery under direction of Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Pallbearers were Don Babzien, John, Dan, and Frank Bailey, Jim Robertson, and Don Storie.
