Jean Gerald Corriveau 1931-1986

Jean Gerald Corriveau was born a son of Albert and Mabel (Brousseau) Corriveau, January 21, 1931 in Saco, Maine, and he departed this life at his home, May 8, 1986 after a lengthy illness, having attained the age of 55 years, 3 months, 17 days.

Jean was also known to his friends as “Jerry” or “Red Cap”.  He was a member of the St. Bellarmine Catholic Church in St. Robert, Missouri.

He enlisted in the United States Army December 28, 1950 and retired from the military at Fort Leonard Wood, after serving his country for twenty-one years with honor and devotion.  He served in the Korean Conflict, Germany, and Thailand.  He had worked for Civil Service for 13 ½ years.

“Jerry” loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed his C.B.’s, and also took great pride in working in his yard.  He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #49, VFW Post #3176, and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; three daughters, Maryjane Scott of Arizona, Barbara Corriveau of Waynesville, and Michelle Corriveau of the home; three brothers, Paul Corriveau of Quincy, Massachusetts, and by Raymond Corriveau of Abington, Massachusetts; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 9, 1986 at 11:00 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Monsignor Jerome Sommer officiating.  Music was provided by Organist, Dorothy Moore.  Escorts were the “Military”.  Honorary escorts were Floyd Atwell, Lewis C. Bottom, Thomas Cobb, William Jefferson, William Shy, and David C. Wood.

Interment with full military honors was in the Ozark Memorial V.F.W. Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Fred C. “Robby” Robinson 1915-1986

Fred C. “Robby” Robinson of Waynesville, Missouri, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, January 7, 1915, the son of Frederick H. and Marie (Bailey) Robinson, and departed this life May 27, 1986 at the age of 71 years, four months, 20 days.

Fred was married to Reba Roberts on December 7, 1973.

Fred spent 22 years in the Army, having enlisted in June of 1939 and retired from the Army in June of 1945.  He re-enlisted in 1949 and retired in October of 1965.  He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Beirut, Lebanon.  Fred served his country well.

After retirement from the Army, he worked several years for the Civil Service.

Fred was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the V.F.W. Post 3176.

Fred is survived by his wife, Reba of the home in Waynesville; two sons: Robert Alan Robinson, Springfield; Virginia and James Edward Robinson of Salem, Oregon; one step-son, Douglas Arlin Moore of Los Angeles, California; two step-daughters: Phyllis Wood of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Jeanine Sullivan of Constabieville, New York; 11 grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends.

“Robby” will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 31, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Captain Harry E. Colter officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Dorothy Moore.

Interment was in the Ozark Memorial V.F.W. Cemetery in St. Robert under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

SSG Edwin J. Weber 1919-1986

SSG Edwin J. Weber (retired), 66 years old of Waynesville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, March 5, 1986 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 9, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Lt. Colonel Albert C. Skinner officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in the Francis J. Lynch Memorial V.F.W. Post 3168, Waynesville, Missouri under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.  Visitation will be held Saturday, March 8, 1986 with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Survivors include: one son, Jacob J. Weber, of Buckhorn, Missouri, two daughters, Katharn A. Weber of Springfield, Missouri and Jody E. Miner of Houston, Texas; one brother, Harry Weber of the State of Wyoming; four sisters, Lydia “Pat” Blum of the State of Oregon, Emma Bick and Bertha “Bert” Schultz of the State of South Dakota, and Irene Luckey of the State of Washington; and two grandchildren.

Russell Lee Chastain 1958-2012

Russell Lee Chastain, son of Elmer E. and Vera Chastain, was born December 4, 1958 in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He passed away July 13, 2012 in his home having attained the age of 53 years.

Russell grew up and attended school in Waynesville and graduated from Waynesville High School in 1977. He went on to further his education at the University of Missouri – Rolla and graduated in 1981.

Russell worked for several years and was presently employed at Ozark Roll Shutter Manufacturing. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching movies. In fact, if you wanted to know something about a movie, just ask Russell. He was a big movie buff and he also enjoyed music-mostly the 70’s and 80’s music. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He attended St. Robert Assembly of God Church and attended whenever he was able.

Russell will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his father: Elmer Chastain of St. Robert, MO; sister: Linda Chastain of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother-in-law: Michael Wolf of Lee’s Summit, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his mother, Vera and one brother Elmer Chastain, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 in the First Assembly of God Church of St. Robert with Pastor Chris Wiggs officiating. The songs “I’ll Fly Away”, “Jerusalem My Destiny” and “Go Rest High on that Mountain” were played. Greg Glen and Ken Chastain recalled their wonderful memories of Russell. Serving as escorts were George Chastain, Ken Chastain, Randy Chastain, Mike Wolf, Jye Gree, Chris Bealhen and John Nees.

Burial followed in the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176 Cemetery of St. Robert. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.

ROBERT KENNETH "SWEDE" THERKELSEN, 1927-1990

Sergeant (Ret) Robert Kenneth "Swede" Therkelsen, 63, of St. Robert, died Thursday, August 30, 1990 in his home. He was born February 11, 1927, in Evanston IL, the son of Otto and Hjordis Ann (Krogsgard) Therkelsen. Mr. Therkelsen grew up and attended school in the rural farm community of Sutton/Cooperstown/Binford ND. He had been baptized in the Lutheran Church.

In 1946 Mr. Therkelsen entered the U. S. Army, serving a tour during the Korean War, earning him the National Defense Service Medal. When he retired May 31, 1967, he had attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176 and American Legion Post 331,

After retiring, he went to work for Bridgeport Marina, repairing boat motors. He also worked for civil service repairing boat motors at the Army Recreational Area at the Lake. He later started a small engine repair business.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Dieman of Plato and Julie Wagoner of Rolla; three sons, Kenneth Therkelsen of Cedar Rapids IA, Bruce Therkelsen of Dixon, and David Therkelsen of Montgomery AL; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Wesley Therkelsen of Texas; three aunts, Lulu Krogsgard, Ebby Krogsgard, and Alice Krogsgard Mason ; and a sister in law, Marcella Therkelsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hjordis Ann Therkelsen, and his twin brother, Richard Therkelsen.

VFW services were held at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 1, in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Chaplain (CPT) Jeffrey Burns officiating. Escorts were military. Members of the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176 and the American Legion Post 331 served as honorary escorts.

Burial with military honors was in the Ozark memorial VFW Cemetery, St. Robert. Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

SFC (Ret) Reyno Feltner 1924-2009

SFC (Ret) Reyno Feltner passed away November 8, 2009 at his home at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Reyno was born April 28, 1924 in Hazard, Kentucky. (Reyno would always link his birth date to that of the sinking of the Titanic which sank on the very same day twelve years earlier.) He was one of nine children born to the union of Wiley and Florence (Hurt) Feltner. There were eight boys and one girl.

At the age of 18, Reyno enlisted in the United States Army and served his country faithfully for “20 years, 4 hours and 32 minutes” (according to Reyno). He retired on April 29, 1964 which happened to be a leap year and he had to do an extra day of duty because of that. For his faithful service, Reyno was awarded several awards and commendations and by the time of his discharge had earned the rank of Sergeant First Class.

After retiring from the military, Reyno worked as a civil service employee for 12 years. He drove a truck, worked in supplies and also family housing. On June 1, 1980, he resigned from civil service and began doing volunteer work.

For 17 years, Reyno volunteered at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital pushing the book cart around to the patients. He also volunteered with the Roby Fire Department, Lions Club and Meals on Wheels, just to name a few. He was a lifetime member of the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176 of St. Robert, the American Legion Post 331 and the Cooties. He was also a member of the Roby Fire Department, Mark Twain React Team and the Northwest Texas County Lions Club.

Reyno made the comment that he used to like to hunt and fish but decided to give that up to do volunteer work because he got more enjoyment out of that than waiting for the fish to bite. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him.

Reyno is survived by his very dear friends, the Howard Walny family of Newburg, along with his fellow VFW, American Legion and Cootie members, the Mark Twain React Team, the Roby Fire Department, the Northwest Texas County Lions Club and most especially by the hundreds of lives touched through Reyno’s years of volunteering at the General Leonard Wood Hospital.

Reyno was preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers: Ravina, Raymond, Damon, Oakland, Franklin D., Demere and Lexington; and 1 sister: Regina Feltner.

Graveside services with military honors were held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176 Cemetery of St. Robert with Chaplain (CPT) Jim Burton officiating. Herman Corbett recalled his wonderful memories of his friend and fellow soldier and Hector Mitchell read a poem in memory of Reyno. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Reyno Feltner to the Children’s Hospital at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Derringer Cade 1970-1990

Derringer Cade, of Waynesville, the only son of Command Sergeant Major Smith Cade and Kyong Cha (Shin) Cade, was born February 22, 1970 at the Yong-San Military Hospital in Seoul, Korea. He went to be with his Lord September 22, 1990, at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri, at the age of 20.

Derringer accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Robert.

Being a military family, the Cades have lived in many areas of the United States and the world. Derringer and his family moved back to the Waynesville area in 1975. He was very active in school; especially in all kinds of sports. During high school, he was in VICA and was a member of the Letterman’s Club. He has played on the basketball team since Junior High, and played summer league baseball, but Derringer was an excellent football player, receiving All-District and All-State Linebacker honors during the 1987-88 season. Derringer graduated from Waynesville High School in 1988. He was a gifted young man in many ways, but he really enjoyed detailing cars and swimming.

Derringer’s hard work and special talent earned him a four year football scholarship and a two year ROTC scholarship to Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville. Derringer attained the rank of Cadet 2nd Lieutenant in the ROTC program. While in Kirksville, he was attending the First Baptist Church of Kirksville, and last summer joined the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at Northeast.

Very special young people are very precious to us all, but especially to their family, school, peers, and community. Derringer was just such a young man. Everyone’s lives he touched were better for having known him. He will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him, but he has left many special memories for them to hold and cherish forever.

He is survived by his parents, Command Sergeant Major Smith Cade and Kyong Cha Cade of Waynesville; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and numerous other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 1990, in the Soldiers Memorial Chapel, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, with Dr. Mel Watson, Rev. Joseph Cade, and Rev. Bob Summers officiating. Music was provided by Organist, Dorothy Moore, Trio, The Norris Sisters, Pianist, Kay York, and Soloist, Eddie Stone. Serving as escorts were Jerry Arnold, Cary Calkins, Joe Delgado, Marlowe Douglas, Raymond Gaono, Cory Mitchell, Andy Posey, Frankie Ras, Joe Smith, and Fontaine Walker. Honorary escorts were the Waynesville High School Football Team and Coaching Staff (’87-’88) and the Northeast Missouri State University Football Team and Coaching Staff. Burial was in the Ozark Memorial VFW Cemetery, St. Robert, Missouri.

Edward Franklin Nelson 1932-1985

Edward Franklin Nelson was born the first son to LeRoy and Iva (Whitsell) Nelson on December 29, 1932 in Westboro, Missouri and he departed this life on Thursday evening, April 11, 1985 at the Charles Still Hospital in Jefferson City, having attained the age of 52 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

Edward spent most of his youth in Brookfield, Ludlow, and Hamilton, Missouri. After entering the U.S. Army he served in several foreign countries including Korea, France, Belgium, Germany, and Viet Nam and also had several Stateside Duties.

He was united in marriage on December 27, 1954 in Ayer, Massachusetts to Rosalind Marie Beach. There were three children born to this union.

Edward was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign wars and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association.

He was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, comrade, and friend. He will be greatly missed but he will always be in our hearts.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalind, of the home; two sons: Edward F. Nelson, Jr., and Phillip L. Nelson, both of Jefferson City, Missouri; a daughter, Debra Ann Martin, of Ava, Missouri; his mother and step-father Iva Nelson Tuttle and Eldon Tuttle of Mobile, Alabama; a brother, Lee L. Nelson of Clinton, Missouri; a sister, Martha Bowles of Augusta, Kansas; five grandchildren; Christopher, Nori, Phillip, Dell and Nelson; two nephews, a niece, several uncles, aunts, and countless friends and acquaintances.

Memorial services of the Waynesville-St. Robert VFW Post 3176 and Auxiliary for Edward Nelson were held Sunday evening, April 14, 1985 at 7:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Funeral Chapel. Commander was Hank Veach, president was Katie Chavis, senior vice-commander was Laurine Lundblad, senior vice-president was Rose Fletcher, junior vice-commander was Ray Clark, junior vice-president was Carol White. Chaplin was Bob Shulz, guards were Jerry Bishop, Harold Caesar, Mike Duncan, Ed Flexser, Mike Geyer, Crazy Horse Heavin, LeRoy Hettich, Del Pratt, and Jim Sheperd. Bugler was Shirley Duncan.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Thomas Foh officiating.

Music was provided by organist Marjorie Link.

Serving as escorts were Military Personnel. Waynesville-St. Robert VFW Post 3176 and Auxiliary members attended as a body.

Berry Charles Breeden 1913-1985

Berry Charles Breeden was born a son to James Berrimand and Josephine (Kohout) Breeden on June 2, 1913 in Polk County, Iowa and he departed this life on Friday morning, July 12, 1985 at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the age of 72 years, 1 month, and 10 days.

Berry was united in marriage on December 28, 1940 at the First Christian Church in Red Oak, Iowa to Barbara Ann Barnes. They had met at a church hospital where Barbara was a nursing student and Berry was admitted for a leg injury received while playing football. They spent 45 years together.

Berry retired a Captain from the U.S. Army. He was employed at various occupations during his life including the U.S. Postal Service.

Berry came to the Lord on November 6, 1981 and we rejoice in the fact that he is whole once again from the touch of his Master’s hand.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; two sons, James B. Breeden and his wife, Bonnie and son, Berrimand James of Waynesville, Missouri and Robert C. Breeden and his wife, Michelle and three daughters, Emily, Bobbie Ann, and Megan of Austin, texas; four daughters, Mrs. Berianne Flynn and her husband Tim and her two children, Andrea and Charley of Denton, Texas; Mrs. Andrea Medvesky and her husband Paul and two children, Paul II and Alexander of Medford, New Jersey; Deborah Wells and her two children Kenneth and Aimee of Waynesville, Missouri; and Mrs. Pamela Moran and her husband, Pat and three children, Andrew, Ryan, and Kristin of Diamond Bar, California and many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Church of the Nazarene with Max Downs officiating.

Music was provided by Max Downs, leading congregational singing and singing solo and Ramona Downs, pianist.

Serving as escorts were Tom Black, jim Bridges, Bob Deets, Gerald Green, Reese Gregory, Leon Holdinghausen, Frank Hollingshead, and Glen Huffman.

Interment with full V.F.W. Honors followed in the Ozark Memorial V.F.W. Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Edwin David McKendrick 1917-1984

Edwin David McKendrick was born a son of Edward McKendrick and Susan Doyle in Stongington, Illinois on April 10, 1917 and he departed this life August 25, 1984 at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital in his 67th year.

He was united in marriage to Ruth (Chapman) November 14, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio and to this union 3 children were born.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1937 and served with a devotion to his country and his fellow comrades which was evidenced on February 21, 1945. While Sergeant First Class McKendrick was in action as a member of the U.S. 40th Infantry Division in the Phillippines he and three other soldiers volunteered to bring back a soldier who had been lost on patrol, which was about 80 yards away up on the side of the hill. The other three soldiers covered Mr. McKenderick while he scaled the hill and located the missing soldier. As he came down the hill with the soldier on his back he was wounded by the Japanese. Despite the wound, he was able to get back under his own power, carrying his human load. The soldier was dead when McKendrick found him, but despite that, McKendrick does not believe the effort in vain. It was not the American way of life to leave our troops behind Japanese lines.

Sometime later he and his three comrades on that patrol were issued a Citation “Which they folded up and put in there pockets - he stated that they were in combat, and we had other things to do and for many years that was as far as things went.

He recently was awarded for that heroic mission, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with the “V” (for Valor) designation and first Oak Leaf Cluster.

The formal presentation was made April 26, 1984 in the commanding general’s office at Fort Leonard Wood.

After his retirement from the military he and his family made their home in the Waynesville area. He was a loving devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and friend.

He was proud of his family, and enjoyed his grandchildren very much.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth McKendrick, living in Waynesville, Missouri, two sons, John McKendrick and daughter-in-law Cheryl and grandchildren Charles and Amanda; Edwin McKendrick and daughter-in-law Sandra, and grandson Scott; one daughter, Sue Melton and son-in-law John Melton and grandchildren Bill and Julie.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday August 28, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Father Jack pender officiating.

Interment with Full Military Honors were held at the V.F.W. Ozark Memorial Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Those serving as Escorts were Military. Honorary escorts were Hank Veach, Gene Elrod, Sanford Stephens, Cravin Rogers, Ralph Lofton, Bob Smith, Harry Herron, Dick Jensen, Walter Spetter, Harry Lloyd, Al Holtsclaw, Jim Heaven, and Glenn Clay.

Harold "Bob" Curtiss 1945-2003

Harold "Bob" Curtiss, 57, of St. Robert, Mo., died June 28 at the Phelps
County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo.

He was born Nov. 14, 1945.

Mr. Curtiss was a retired U.S. army sergeant major and Vietnam War
veteran.

Mr. Curtiss is survived by one son, Harold "Bobby" Curtiss Jr. of
Cheyenne; his mother, Mary Trickler of St. Robert; two sisters, Sandra
Kingsley of Oswego, N.Y. and Dawn Blaisdell of Fulton, N.Y.; two
grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. today at
the Ozark Memorial VFW Post 3176 Cemetery, St. Robert. Services
are under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Martin Evecilla Perret 1913-1984

Martin Evecilla Perret was born August 11, 1913 in the Phillipines, and he departed this life August 29, 1984 at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, in his 71st year.

He enlisted in the United States Army December 31, 1942, and served during World War II, Korea, and Japan. He received numerous service medals and awards. He retired from Military service September 1, 1966. He was a member of Waynesville-St. Robert V.F.W Post 3176. He is survived by his wife Sue, of the home, and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 1, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Father Jack Pender officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors was in the V.F.W. Ozark Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Those serving as escorts were Military. There was a Vigil Service held Friday, August 31, 1984 at 7:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with deacon Bob Bixby leading.

Patrick L. Young 1931-1984

Patrick L. Young, son of Valentine and Alma Young, was born in Corder, Missouri, on May 28, 1931, and he departed this life at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital on February 17, 1984 in his 52nd year.

He united in marriage to Hildegard (Schwab) Young April 16, 1958. They shared 25 years together and to this union four daughters were born.

Patrick served as a member of the United States Army for 20 years and engaged in combat in Korea. He retired in September 1969. He served his country with integrity, loyalty, and pride. This was also shown by his receiving several medals and awards. On retirement from the military he and his family made their home in Waynesville area, where he has many friends.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he was loved by all who knew him and with whom he had served.

He is survived by his loving wife Hildegard, four daughters- Monika Clifton of Alaska; Connie Denny of Lake Ozark, Missouri; Bernice Tinsley and Candy Young both of Waynesville, Missouri; three grandsons- Danny Clifton, Jason Tinsley, and Andy Denny, one brother- James Bockleman of Arizona, one sister, Mildred Nayta of Higginsville, Missouri, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 21, 1984- 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with (Cpt) Allen Herneisen officiating. Interment was in the VFW Ozark Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Rites. Services were under direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Escorts were Military.
