A Brother has Passed Away

A model man in the person of R. M. Breeden is no more on earth; he passed away Sunday, September 29, 1907 at 4 o'clock.

Deceased was born in the southwest part of Maries County May 6, 1873. That place now seems to the writer a garden of Eden: 'How dear to my heart are the scenes of my childhood.' On this farm Robert lived until the 29th of March 1890 when he with his parents moved to the old home farm in the south part of Pulaski County.

He was a son of J. W. and Cordelia Rowden Breeden and a grandson of Robert Rowden deceased. The grandson being named for the grandfather and he carried with him the features and actions of his grandfather.

He made a profession of religion in the winter of 1897 while attending a protracted meeting which was conducted by Rev. Lacklider. He and two sisters Dollie and Livilla were attending school at that time at Dixon.

On September 18, 1898 he was married to Miss Etta Dye, daughter of Colonel Dye of Big Piney.

What can we say of brother Robert that would be justice, he was a good brother, an obedient son, a loving husband and father. A dutiful official and was serving his third term as surveyor of Pulaski County. His vacant seat will be noticed in the Sunday school and more especially in the home by his dear wife and sweet little baby who will never know a father's love.

Relatives, friends and associates, Rob has gone, the staff has dropped from his hand, his arm and heart has ceased to pulsate. The sparkling glean of cheerful eye has been forever dimmed, and his pure mind ceased to work and gone to bathe in the rays of a son that throws the light of life upon a better land. Let us all try to emulate the record he made, so when the last roll is called you can meet your God in peace and enjoy the dreams of a well spent life.

Seven of his brothers and sisters were present, Clint, Charlie, George, Roberta Skidmore, Dollie Haynes, Nina Cook and Eva Sullins of Cookville. Joseph of Colorado and Lavilla Singleton of Arkansas were the absent ones.

Service were held at the home by the Baptist minister at 2 o'clock p.m. after which the A.F.& A.M., and I.O.O.F. orders took charge. The crowd was estimated at 1,000. Interment in Big Piney cemetery at 4:00.

Berry Charles Breeden 1913-1985

Berry Charles Breeden was born a son to James Berrimand and Josephine (Kohout) Breeden on June 2, 1913 in Polk County, Iowa and he departed this life on Friday morning, July 12, 1985 at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the age of 72 years, 1 month, and 10 days.

Berry was united in marriage on December 28, 1940 at the First Christian Church in Red Oak, Iowa to Barbara Ann Barnes. They had met at a church hospital where Barbara was a nursing student and Berry was admitted for a leg injury received while playing football. They spent 45 years together.

Berry retired a Captain from the U.S. Army. He was employed at various occupations during his life including the U.S. Postal Service.

Berry came to the Lord on November 6, 1981 and we rejoice in the fact that he is whole once again from the touch of his Master’s hand.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; two sons, James B. Breeden and his wife, Bonnie and son, Berrimand James of Waynesville, Missouri and Robert C. Breeden and his wife, Michelle and three daughters, Emily, Bobbie Ann, and Megan of Austin, texas; four daughters, Mrs. Berianne Flynn and her husband Tim and her two children, Andrea and Charley of Denton, Texas; Mrs. Andrea Medvesky and her husband Paul and two children, Paul II and Alexander of Medford, New Jersey; Deborah Wells and her two children Kenneth and Aimee of Waynesville, Missouri; and Mrs. Pamela Moran and her husband, Pat and three children, Andrew, Ryan, and Kristin of Diamond Bar, California and many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, 1985 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Church of the Nazarene with Max Downs officiating.

Music was provided by Max Downs, leading congregational singing and singing solo and Ramona Downs, pianist.

Serving as escorts were Tom Black, jim Bridges, Bob Deets, Gerald Green, Reese Gregory, Leon Holdinghausen, Frank Hollingshead, and Glen Huffman.

Interment with full V.F.W. Honors followed in the Ozark Memorial V.F.W. Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Ralph Knowlten Breeden, Jr 1943-1969

Ralph Knowlten Breeden, Jr., son of Ralph and Mary Breeden was born September 24, 1943 and passed away at the Burge Protestant Hospital in Springfield, Missouri February 18, 1969 at the age of 25 years, 4 months and 25 days.

At an early age he was united with the Mt. Gibson Church where he remained a member until his untimely death.

Knowlten was engaged in farming and was an auctioneer.

On June 30, 1962 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Rollins and to this union one son, Kurt Knowlten, was born.

He was preceded in death by his father in August 1967.

Knowlten leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Dorothy and son Kurt, his mother, Mary Breeden of Waynesville, Missouri, one sister, Lorene Barnes of Laquey, Missouri, two brothers, Frank of Stoutland, Missouri and Richard of Waynesville, his maternal grandmother, Anna Helton and paternal grandmother, Cammie Breeden, five nephews, two nieces, aunts, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Knowlten will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Etta Dye Woods 1879-1977

Etta Dye Woods was born on November 16, 1879, near Big Piney, Missouri, to Cornelius Webb Dye and Laura Roberts Dye, and departed this life on May 22, 1977, at the home of her daughter in St. Louis, having attained the age of 97 ½ years. Although she still considered Pulaski County her home, she had resided in St. Louis since 1931.

In 1903 she was united in marriage to Robert Breeden and to this union was born a daughter, Lela. He preceded her in death in 1907 and in 1912 she was united in marriage to Joseph Woods. To this union was born two daughters, Jewel and Doris. Mr. Woods preceded her in death in 1933.

Early in life she gave her life to Christ and united with the Baptist Church and remained true to her faith and attended church until health problems prevented it.

Survivors include her daughters, Lela Greer of Sacramento, California, Jewel Light and Doris Burkhardt, both of St. Louis, one step-daughter, Vera Reed of St. Louis. Two grandchildren, Joetta Roth of Ennis, Texas and Gary light of St. Louis. Also surviving are nine great grand children and two great great grandchildren, two brothers Burley Dye of Waynesville and Bland Dye of Laquey, and one sister Odessa Roam, of Waynesville.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Waynesville with rev. Harvey Dye officiating, Interment was in the Big Piney Cemetery under the direction of Long Moss Williams Funeral Homes Inc.

Pallbearers were Bob Davis, Bill Dye, Dale Roam, Burton A. Dye, Herman Dye, Roy Lee Dye, and George Lane.

C.R. Breeden 1968-1974

C.R. Breeden, son of Richard and Beverly Breeden, was born December 12, 1968 and passed away September 30, 1974 at the age of 5 years, 8 months and 18 days.

He is survived by his parents, 1 brother, Kevin and 1 sister, Cindy, all of the home.

Also surviving are a paternal grandmother, Mary Breeden, both maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Mooney, 2 paternal great grandmothers, Ann Helton and Cammie Breeden, 3 Uncles, 3 Aunts, 14 cousins and a number of other relatives and friends.

He was dearly loved by everyone.

Funeral services for C.R. Breeden were held Wednesday, October 2, 1974 at the Buckhorn Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Pringle officiating. Interment was in the Buckhorn Cemetery under the direction of Moss-Williams of Waynesville.

Pallbearers were: Charley Storie, Tracy Storie, Billy Ransdall and Bill Laughlin.
