Beverly June (Hendrix) Bays 1934-1986

Beverly June Hendrix Bays, daughter of Claude and Rose Goodrich Hendrix, was born on March 1, 1934 in Pulaski County and departed this life September 1, 1986 at the Pulaski County Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

On November 18, 1950, she was united in marriage with Warren Bays, and to this union two children were born.  She is preceded in death by one son Warren Lynn, her parents, and one brother, Leroy Hendrix.

Beverly was a native of Pulaski County, where she was employed with Brown Shoe Company for several years, and with H.D. Lee for twelve years.

In 1951 she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Buckhorn, where she remained a member.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 3, 1986 at 1:00 p.m. with Ministers Rev. Norman Sanders and Rev. F.S. Hammons officiating.

Resting place was in the Buckhorn Cemetery.

Escorts for Mrs. Bays were: Dickie Bales, Charles Brittain, Dennis Hartley, Jim Bales, Harry Case and Bob Allison.

Those left to mourn her passing include her husband Warren of the home; one son Dennis and his wife Yvonna of Waynesville; three brothers, Dee, Buck, and Dallas Hendrix all of Waynesville; one sister, Lavone Sinclair of Waynesville; a daughter-in-law Susan Perry and her husband John of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Eric, Mandy and Christina; other relatives and a host of many friends.

Edna Francis (Nicks) Cox 1920-2004

Edna Francis Cox was born June 3, 1920 at Hanna, Missouri in Pulaski County. She was one of five children born to the union of the late Bryan and Edith Imo (Hendrix) Nicks.

Edna grew up in the Hanna area and attended the Fairview school. At an early age, Edna gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a long time member of the Westside Baptist Church in Waynesville.

On September 24, 1940, at Buffalo, Missouri, Edna married Lyle Grant Cox. Edna and Lyle were blessed with three children, Ernest Grant, Lanny Curtis and Pamela Sue, and shared nearly 40 years of marriage together. Lyle preceded her in death on April 24, 1980.

Edna enjoyed sewing and attending gospel music concerts. She also loved the outdoors, especially gardening, fishing and going to the family farm. Edna dedicated her life to the love and care of her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Edna departed this life the afternoon of August 11, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Waynesville, Missouri, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 8 days. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the caregivers at the Life Care Center.

She will be very sadly missed by her sons: Grant Cox and his wife, Linda, and Curt Cox, and one daughter: Pamela (Cox) Clark and her husband, Alan all of Waynesville. She also leaves two brothers: Everett "Bill" Nicks of Waynesville and Charles Nicks of St. Robert; three grandchildren: Lori Belshe and her husband, Tim, Jason Cox and Lyle Cox; one great granddaughter: Allie Kay Belshe along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Edna also joins in heaven two sisters: Evelyn (Sally) Davenport and Nettie Florence Roam.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 14, 2004 in the Westside Baptist Church with Rev. John Shaw and Rev. Lindell Shelden officiating. The Lester family sang "What A Day That Will Be", a medley of "If We Never Meet Again" "I'll Meet You In the Morning" and "I Won�t Have to Worry Anymore". Pianist Mary Lou Long played the prelude and postlude and accompanied the congregation as they sang "Victory In Jesus". Serving as escorts were Larry Brotherton, Don Clark, Dwight Hensley, Charles Hill, Jerry Laughlin, Layne Lercher, Robert Littlejohn, Joe Miller, Butch O'Reilly, Charles Pointer, Don Sanders and Eugene Wyatt.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Westside Baptist Church Building Fund and may be left at the funeral home.

Dallas C. Hendrix 1943-2010

April 21st, 1943 - January 26th, 2010

Dallas Claire Hendrix went home to be with his Lord on January 26, 2010, at his daughter’s home near Buckhorn, Missouri, at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Dallas was born April 21, 1943 in Waynesville, Missouri. He was one of six children, Leroy, Duane “Deezer”, Beverly, Lavonne, Buck and Dallas, born to the union of the late Claude Andrew and Velma Rose (Goodrich) Hendrix.

Dallas grew up in the Buckhorn area of Pulaski County. He was a graduate of Waynesville High School, Class of 1961. After graduation, Dallas worked as a heavy equipment operator for about a year before going to work for United Telephone Company. His duties as chief facility coordinator foreman meant covering the territories of Waynesville/St. Robert, Richland, Rolla and Jefferson City. Dallas retired from Sprint in 2001 after 39 years of employment.

On December 31, 1962, Dallas married Sandra Kay Jones, and to this union, two children were born, Carrol “Buzz” and Sherry.

While working at the phone company, Dallas met Tarita Darlene (Marcus) Lenox. They were married on September 1, 1989 at the Elks Lodge in Rolla, Missouri.

Dallas was a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church, was a 32nd degree Mason in the Richland Masonic Lodge #385 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the York Rite in Joplin. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. When his children were growing up, Dallas was very involved with their activities, and was a proud coach for their teams. His greatest joy was his family; most especially his grandchildren.

Dallas is survived by his wife: Tarita D. Hendrix of St. Robert, MO; one son: Buzz Hendrix (Roxanne) of Waynesville, MO; three daughters: Sherry McNulty and Wendy Wood, both of Buckhorn, MO and Andrea Klump (Steve) of St. Peters, MO; one sister: Lavonne Sinclaire of Waynesville, MO; nine grandchildren: Chris, Megan, Emily, Whitney, Donovan, Madyson, Nathan, Shelby and Olivia; several other relatives and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Dallas was preceded in death by three grandchildren: Anthony Dallas, Timothy Scott and Nicole Rose, and his siblings: Leroy, Duane and Buck Hendrix and Beverly Bays.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2010 in the Buckhorn Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Bailey and Rev. Larry Atkins officiating. Soloist Gilbert Crismon led the congregation in singing “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder”. Pianist Becky Lercher accompanied Mr. Crismon as he sang “Beulah Land” and also accompanied Soloist William Anderson as he sang “One Day At a Time”. The song “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion was also played. Serving as escorts were Bill White, Justin Richardson, Tom Hendrix, Tony Dean Crismon, Hoss Ellzey and Richard Ledbetter. Serving as honorary escorts were Carroll Ellzey, Sam Hammock, Dale Shetler, Carl Vach, Ed Smith, John Scott, Ed Foote, Tony Crismon, Butch Crossland and Charlie Storie.

Burial followed in the Buckhorn Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dallas Hendrix to the American Heart Association and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Pearl Lee (Foote) Berry 1896-1985

Pearl Lee Berry, daughter of Ashe L. and Mary Louise Hendrix Foote was born July 1, 1896 in Pulaski County and departed this life February 9, 1985 at Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of 88 years _ months and 8 days.

She was united in marriage to Charles A. Berry on October 18, 1930. Mr. Berry passed away December 8, 1951. She is also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Alva, Ferrell, and Clinton, and one sister Vena Robinson.

Pearl professed her faith in Jesus Christ as a young woman, and at the time of her death was a member of the Christian Church in Richland, where she has been a member for many years.

She is survived by her brother, Paul Foote of Laquey; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Colonial Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 10, 1985 with John Davenport, Minister officiating. Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapels.

Escorts were Cliff Davis, Cecil Foote, Roy Peterson, Bob Scott, Eddie Foote, and Danny Larson.

Pearl Lee (Foote) Berry 1896-1985

Richard Lee Hendrix 1945-2009

WAYNESVILLE – Richard Lee Hendrix, 64, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, in his home near Waynesville.
Funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in Buckhorn Baptist Church with Danny Graves, minister, officiating. Burial was in Waynesville Memorial Park.
Richard was born April 13, 1945, near Laquey to Herbert and Grace Hendrix.
He attended Laquey Elementary and Richland High School.
Richard accepted Jesus as his savior at 12 years old and was baptized. He was a member of the Independence Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Idumea Baptist Church.
At 16 years old, Richard started singing gospel music and grew to love it. One of his favorite past times was singing and he enjoyed sharing this gift with everyone. Richard also enjoyed yard work and was known to keep his riding mower all to himself. He loved the History channel; “Patton” was his favorite movie. He also enjoyed watching NASA on television. Richard would sit for hours waiting for the space shuttle to take off.
During Richard’s last days after being diagnosed with ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig ’s disease, he loved to sit on the front porch and drink his morning coffee. It was such a treat for him to just to be able to go as far as the porch, and now he is dancing on the streets of gold and singing with a heavenly choir.
During Richard’s life, he worked at various jobs. He served in the United States Army, National Guard, built cabinet tops for Hoffman Fixtures in Tulsa, Okla., ran his own store and gas station after moving back to Missouri in 1981, and worked as lead plumber on Fort Leonard Wood for the past 20 years.
Richard was united in marriage with Linda Foster Feb. 17, 1989, and shared 20 loving years together. They loved and shared each other’s children, Justin, Andrew, Robin, Jennifer, Sarah and Amanda.
Richard was known for his love and devotion to his family. He took care of his mother until he wasn’t able to walk anymore. He always wanted a big sloppy kiss from his kids and wouldn’t let them leave until they gave in and let him slobber all over their faces.
Richard is survived by his wife Linda of the home; six children: Justin Block and his wife Cassie of Springfield, Andrew Hendrix of St. Robert, Robin Ritchie and her husband Scott of Rolla, Jennifer Mattix and her husband Joshua of Springfield, Sarah Jones and her husband David of St. Robert, and Amanda Harmon and her husband Robert of Reaford, N.C.; 11 grandchildren: Taylor, Aaron, Chance, Teage, Noah, Tyler, Isaiah, Kayla, Jaden, Samantha, and Rebekah; his mother, Grace McClary of Richland; one brother, Herbert Gerald Hendrix of Laquey; one sister, Grace Elaine Brown of Parish, Ala.; other relatives and many friends, and man’s best friend, Couper.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Hendrix, his sister-in-law, Jeanetta Kay Hendrix, and his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Fern Foster.

Abi (Hendrix) Sneed 1864-1902

Sister Abi, wife of Thomas Sneed, and daughter of Rev. A. Hendrix, born in Rush Co., Indiana, May 23d 1864, and died in Rogers, Benton Co., Arkansas, April 30th 1902 at 7 o'clock p.m., aged 37 ys, 11 ms, & 7 ds. Sister Sneed was of a family of 7 children:
Elizabeth Jane, John Finley, Wm. A., Daniel F., Abi, our lamented sister, Mary Josephene, and Andrew J. 4 of whom survive, namely: Wm. A., Daniel T., Mary Josephene, & Andrew J. Nov. 4th 1883 our sister was united in marriage with Bro. Thomas Sneed, who survives her. She was mother of 6 children: Herbert E., Zina E., Perry E., Estella May, Alexander H., Leroy L. 4 surviving, Zina E.,Perry E., Alex. H., & Leroy L. Her oldest child Herbert Eugene Hendrix since the death of his mother has passed away. He died at W.W. Huffs at Coalhill, in Johnson Co., Ark., Sept. 11th 1902 at 11 o'clock a.m., aged 20 ys. 11 ms, & 22 ds. Herbert was raised by his grand parents and was dearly beloved by them. A funeral discourse was delivered at the Hopewell Ch. at Newtown, O ct. 2d 1902 at 11 a.m., from the text found in Phil. 1X21 Hymns on page 176, 2d hymn "Why should our tears in sorrow flow", & "We'ar floating down the stream of time". Mrs. Mary Emeline, wife of Rev. Alexander Hendrix, was born in Stanley County, North Carolina, Oct. 11, 1830, maiden name Honeycutt. Her father died in North Carolina March 26, 1893. She married in Wilks County, North Carolina to Bro. A. Hendrix Feb. 20, 1851. She was the mother of 7 children, 5 of whom survive her, 29 grand children, 22 still living and 3 great grand children all living. 50 years ago sister Hendrix embraced _____, joined the M. E. Church and in a few years joined the old Union Baptist Church of Wilks County, North Carolina. She came with her husband and family to Rush county, Indiana, and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and from there to Pulaski county, Missouri and joined the Friendship Church and from there to the Pleasant Grove Church of Phelps County, where her membership was at the time of her death which took place at New Town near Big Piney Post Office, in Pulaski county, MO, Aug. 10, 1898 at 10 o’clock and 5 min. p.m., aged 67 ys, 9 ms and 29 ds. Singing, prayer and remarks at the Hopewell grave yard Aug. 11, 1898. Hymns used in vocalist No’s 400 and 292. A funeral discourse was preached at Hopewell Church Oct. 16, 1898 at 11 a.m., Sun. by Bro. G. L. Schockley from John 14X1-2-3 and 2nd Tim. 4X6-7-8 assisted by myself using hymns 377-400-4__ and 478 in vocalist and Must Jesus bear the cross Alone. J. J. Watts

William Lee, son of Andrew J. and Maggie Hendrix, was born in Piney Township, Pulaski County, MO, June 18, 1895, aged 2 months and 28 days. A funeral sermon was preached at the Bayou School House, Hopewell Church, December 15, 1895 at 11 a.m. from Rev. 21X25 to a very large congregation of relatives and friends.
