MSG (Ret) Harold Warren Fairchild, 68 of Waynesville, MO, a retired United States Army veteran, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Burial with military honors will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the funeral home.

Mr. Fairchild is survived by his wife: Edith Fairchild of Waynesville, MO; two sons: Joseph W. Fairchild of Tuscumbia, MO and Charles I Fairchild (Annette) of Waynesville, MO; his mother: Dorothy Fairchild of Corpus Christi, TX; two brothers: Larry Fairchild of Corpus Christi, TX and Dennis Fairchild of the state of Florida; one stepson: Torsten Spahn (Goldie) of St. Robert, MO; one stepdaughter: Sandra Nelson (Darryl) of Camden, DE; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

John Paul Rainbolt 1927-2012

John Paul Rainbolt, of St. Robert, Missouri, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Phelps Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri.

He was born to James Harrison Rainbolt, Sr., and Ruth (nee Schafer) Rainbolt on May 23, 1927, in East St. Louis, Illinois.

While he was still in grade school, his family moved to what is now Fairview Heights, Illinois, where he attended Pontiac Grade School. After a later move to Collinsville, Illinois, he entered Collinsville High School, graduating in 1945.

On June 4, 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served and sailed aboard the NTC Great Lakes Illinois, the USS Hazelwood (DD 531) and the USS Medusa (AR 1). He received an Area Campaign Medal and a Victory Medal and was honorably discharged on July 19, 1946.

The son of a master builder, John worked for several years as a construction contractor while living in Fairview Heights. During that time he was elected justice of the peace, running on the Democratic ticket. He was also active in the local chapter of Toastmasters, International.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from McKendree College, in Lebanon, Illinois, in 1967.

An avid reader, John also enjoyed gardening, world travel and listening to music--especially classical music.

His long-time civil service career, which he began in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1970, included positions in Camp Carol, South Korea (1973-1977); White Sands, New Mexico (1977-1980); Frankfurt, Germany (1980-1985); and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (1985-1994). After his retirement from civil service, he pursued a career as a real estate appraiser from 1995 to 2003.

In 1978, he was united in marriage to Kyong Sook, of South Korea, who has worked as a civil service employee at Ft. Leonard Wood since 1986.

John was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Ruth Chamless, Edith Louise Hogan, and Carolyn Smith, and two brothers, William Lewis Rainbolt and James Harrison Rainbolt, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Kyong; one daughter, Paula Sullivan, of Clermont, Florida; two grandsons, Rodney Sullivan and wife Janet of Clermont and Travis Sullivan and wife Katie of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; two brothers, Robert Schafer Rainbolt and wife Doris, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, and Harry Richard Rainbolt and wife Rosella, of Manhattan, Kansas; 16 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory with Rev. Lee Todd officiating. The song “Wind Beneath My Wings” was sung

SFC (Ret) Elmer J. Myers, 85 of St. Robert, MO, a retired United States Army and World War II veteran, passed away at 2:28 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 in the Mercy Hospital of Springfield, MO.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Myers is survived by his wife, Elfriede Myers of the home; five children: Cheryl Erickson of the state of Wisconsin, Karen Teague and Lori Bryan, both of the state of Ohio, Anja Balerio of Waynesville and Michael Myers of St. Robert; one brother: Lloyd Myers of the state of Ohio; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

MSG (Ret) Delbert Watson, 70, of Waynesville, MO, a retired United State Army Master Sergeant, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 in the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, May 4, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Burial with military honors will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 until time of service at 12:00 Noon.

Mr. Watson is survived by his wife, Susie Watson of the home; two sons: Kevin Watson of St. Louis, MO and Darrell Watson (Nancy McDonald) of Kansas City, KS; one sister: Patricia Ann Ware of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; other relatives and friends.

Calvin Arnold, Jr 1935-2012

Calvin Arnold, Jr., son of the late Calvin Arnold, Sr. and Mattie Melinda (Isabelle) Arnold, was born July 31, 1935 in Henderson, Tennessee where he grew up and attended school.

Calvin entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully for the next 30 years. He earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star and 3 Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal United Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal (9h Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award) and Expert Qualification Badge M16. He had attained the rank of Sergeant Major.

While in the military, Calvin did several tours in Vietnam and was stationed in Korea for a time. While in Korea, Calvin met the love of his life, Yong Cha An. They were married on September 23, 1970. Jerry, their first son, was born in Korea before the family was relocated to the United States. Calvin and Young were blessed with another son, Mark, after moving to the States. Calvin was also stationed in Panama, Mississippi, Wisconsin and eventually came to Fort Leonard Wood. On May 31, 1986, Calvin retired from the military and the family decided to stay in the Fort Leonard Wood area.

After retiring from the military, Calvin began working as a contractor for the civil service on Fort Leonard Wood. He also worked for the Waynesville Vo-Tech School as a substitute teacher in the building trades department.

In his spare time, Calvin loved being outdoors; whether it was trout fishing, gardening or walking his mile every day. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed watching them play. One thing you could find Calvin doing and that was cleaning his car. He appreciated a clean automobile. He was a member of the American Legions, Waynesville Masonic Lodge #375 AF & AM, and the Waynesville /Ft. Wood Shrine Club.

Calvin loved his family dearly. He enjoyed taking his wife to play Bingo and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Calvin passed away the morning of Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the Mercy Hospital of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 76 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Yong Arnold of the home; two sons: Jerry Arnold (Tina) of Fulton, MO and Mark Arnold of Springfield, MO; two grandchildren: Matalin and Nicholas Arnold; three sisters: Ruth Worsham, and Zola Rowland, both of Jackson, TN and Thelma Beshires of Henderson, TN; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by three brothers: Archie, JW and Doyle Arnold.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. The songs “In the Sweet By and By”, “Ships of Heaven”, “Smile” and “God Gave Me You” were played. Serving as escorts were Jerry Arnold, Mark Arnold, Nicholas Arnold, Smith Cade, Johnny Pierpoint and Bob Williams. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Herschel Lee Creech 1934-2012

Herschel Lee Creech, was born December 30, 1934 in Cooter, Missouri to the union of Jesse Elvin and Ruby Lillian (Polk) Creech. Herschel grew up in the Missouri Bootheel area and graduated from Steel High School in 1955.

Shortly after graduation, Herschel moved to Michigan to get work and in May 1956, Herschel joined the United States Army where he spent the next 20 years faithfully serving his country. For his service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received his honorable discharge in 1976.

While in Michigan, Herschel met Bonnie Jaggers at church. They were married on Christmas Day, 1956. They shared over 55 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children: Herschel, Steven, Dana, Georganna and Ronald.

Herschel and the family eventually settled in the Waynesville / Fort Leonard Wood area and he worked on post as a 1st Cook in the Mess Hall. He retired in 2009. In his spare time, Herschel enjoyed reading. He was a well read and self-taught man. He also liked to be outdoors while fishing.

Herschel passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center of Dixon, Missouri having attained the age of 77 years, 3 months and 15 days. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Herschel is survived by his wife, Bonnie Creech of Dixon, MO; five children: Herschel Lynn Creech (Mary) of Waterloo, IA, Steven Vaughn Creech of Springfield, MO, Dana Sue Miller (Brent) of Gaithersburg, MD, Georganna Myers (Daniel) of Springfield, MO and Ronald Dexter Creech (Mandy) of Farmington, AR; eight siblings: Richard Creech of the state of Ohio, Herman Creech of the state of Alabama, Juanita Lewis of the state of Ohio, Jeffrey Creech of the state of Michigan, Vivian Goodman of the state of Missouri, Judy Mack of the state of Maryland, Marilyn Dietzler of the state of Florida and Carolyn Blas of the state of Ohio; 7 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Herschel was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Ellen Pegg, Harold Creech and Douglas Creech.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Steve Lynch officiating. The songs “Beulah Land”, “Amazing Grace” and “Peace in the Valley” were played. Serving as escorts were Herman, Richard, Jeffery and Lawrence Creech, Gabriel Miller and Daniel Myers.

Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Edward "Eddie" Acosta 1964-2010

Edward "Eddie" Acosta, son of Everardo Acosta and Juanita (Paradez) Marquez, was born Jan. 15, 1964, in Dallas, Texas where he grew up.
Eddie graduated from Sunset High School in 1982 and attended Dallas Baptist University for two years.
In 1985, Eddie enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly until his retirement in 2005. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. For his faithful service, Eddie received several awards and commendations.
After retiring from the Army, Eddie began working as a civilian on Fort Leonard Wood as a heavy equipment operator and instructor. In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed fishing, spending time with his children, and visiting with friends.
Eddie was a member of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Shrine Club, VFW Post 3168 of Laquey, Legion of Honor and the Freedom of the Road Riders. He was very instrumental in raising a lot of money for his favorite charity, the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
Eddie passed away July 2, 2010 at the age of 46 years, 5 months and 17 days. Eddie will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Eddie was preceded in death by his father: Everardo Acosta and one infant brother.
Masonic funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with WR Brother Jerry Snider officiating and W Brother Don Ripley serving as Chaplain.
Burial with full military honors was held Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, in the Fort Leonard Wood State Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain (CPT) Brian Palmer officiating. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Jack Bensing Wientge, Jr. 1964-2012

Jack Bensing Wientge, Jr., of Dixon, was born on May 3, 1964, at Kirkwood, Missouri, a son of Jack Bensing, Sr. and Delores May (Krumrey) Wientge and departed this life on Monday, April 9, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Jack had attained the age of 47 years, 11 months and 6 days.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother on June 23, 2003 and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Jack was a United States Army veteran and a member of the Lambeth Church, rural Vienna. He had worked in St. Louis County installing irrigation systems. Jack enjoyed motorcycles, restoring old cars, collecting artifacts, being on the water and music.

Those left to mourn the passing of Jack include: his father and step-mother, Jack B. and Carol Wientge, Sr.; his sister, Deanne Wientge, Marblemount, Washington; fiancé, Sharon Hutchison, Vienna; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Jack at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Pastor Bobby Williford, First Baptist Church, Dixon and Pastor Bob Elfrink, Sullivan, officiating.

Interment with full military honors was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood, on Monday, April 16, 2012, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Honorary pallbearers for Jack were Jeff Dempsey, Stanley Krumrey, Jr., Leroy Krumrey, Sam Krumrey, Kevin Barnes, Chuck Howerton, Tom Wakeland and Pat Reckington.

George Allen Failing 1945-2011

George Allen Failing, of Crocker was born on February 1, 1945, at San Antonio, Texas, a son of Frank and Mildred (Cort) Failing, and departed this life at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia. Mr. Failing had attained the age of 66 years and 10 months. 

Mr. Failing proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring on December 31, 1989, after 20 years of service. Mr. Failing then went to work for the State of Missouri at the Department of Corrections where he was a corrections officer 1 and later was promoted to a correction officer 2. While working for Department of Corrections he also graduated from Drury College with a degree in criminal justice. He was later employed with the State of Missouri Probation and Parole as a Probation and Parole officer. He retired from the State of Missouri and started living life to the fullest and enjoying spending time with his three granddaughters and other family and friends.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Failing include: two daughters and one son-in-law; Stephanie and Jason Wiorek and Heather Lynn Failing, all of Crocker; three granddaughters; Courtney Wiorek; Emily and Kimberly Pyle, Crocker; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Frank Failing, Chicago, Illinois.; Hugh and Pamela Failing, Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Richard and June Failing , Bainbridge, Georgia; two nieces; Shelby Failing Howell, Decater, Georgia; Kimberly Clayton , Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two nephews; Christopher Failing, Savannah, Georgia; and Brent Totten, San Francisco, California; dear friends, D.T. and Bunnie Trimm, Stoutland; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Failing at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, with Bro. Larry Richardson, Crocker Christian Church, officiating. Special selections of “Forever In Love”, “Go Rest high On That Mountain”, “If Heaven”, “Amazing Grace” and “Daddy’s Hands” were played for the service.

Inurnment with full military honors was at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 9, 2011, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Crocker. Honorary pallbearers for Mr. Failing were Cort Failing, Hugh Failing, Kent Failing, DT Trimm, Jim Kosanke and Jason Wiorek.

Wilma Jean (Armes) Burnett 1945-2012

Wilma Jean Burnett, of Crocker, was born on January 2, 1945, at Humboldt, Illinois, a daughter of David and Mattie (Lindsey) Armes, and departed this life at 4:28 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2012, at her residence near Crocker. Mrs. Burnett had attained the age of 67 years and 11 days.

Mrs. Burnett was united in marriage in 1969, at Mattoon, Illinois, to Freddie Ray Burnett. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clyde Armes and Larry Armes.

Mrs. Burnett was baptized early in life and had been a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Mattoon, Illinois. She had worked in the shoe factory in Mattoon, Illinois and later the hat factory in Dixon, as well as being a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Burnett include: her husband, Freddie Burnett, of the home near Crocker; two sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and Michaela Rowland, Crocker and Jerry Dean and Marsha Burnett, Springfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Anita Ray and Charlie Dean, Dixon; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Burnett at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, with Bro. Charles Pentecost, pastor of the New Salem Baptist Church, Dixon, officiating. Three favorite musical selections were played for the service.

Interment was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood, under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Crocker. Pallbearers for Mrs. Burnett were Joseph Glasscock, James P. Rowland, Dennis Payne, Matlin Dean, James E. Rowland and Rowdy.

Jerry Wayne Bethurem 1948-2011

Jerry Wayne Bethurem, of Crocker, was born on September 27, 1948, at Stoutland, a son of Ralph Wayne and Elsie (Kennedy) Bethurem and departed this life on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Fort Leonard Wood. Mr. Bethurem had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 63 years, 2 months, and 17 days.

Mr. Bethurem was united in marriage on May 17, 1969, at Iberia to Linda Lou Gardner and to this union, two children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda York.

Mr. Bethurem was a member of the Crocker Christian Church and a retired United States Army veteran, having served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm and achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He had worked as equipment manager at the Equipment Concentration Site # 66, Fort Leonard Wood, retiring in 2004. Mr. Bethurem enjoyed playing golf, skeet shooting and working on cars.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Bethurem include: his wife, Linda Bethurem, of the home near Crocker; one son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Melanie Bethurem, Belton; one daughter and son-in-law, Holly and James Parks, Crocker; six grandchildren, Allison Bethurem, Mikayla Bethurem, Jared Bowling, Ethan Bethurem, Chloe Parks and Madison Parks; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Bethurem at 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 16, 2011, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker with Bro. Larry Richardson officiating. Two favorite musical selections were played for the service.

Interment with full military honors was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Waynesville under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Crocker. United States Army personnel served as pallbearers for Mr. Bethurem.

William Henry Mullen III 1963-2011

William Henry Mullen III, 47, of Waynesville, MO, a United States Marines veteran, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 with a service to follow at 12:00 Noon in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood.

Mr. Mullen is survived by his wife, Rhonda of the home; four stepchildren: Brandon Robertson of South Dakota, Stephannie Robertson who is deployed, Cassondra Stevens and Austin Still, both of Waynesville; one sister: Sylvia Willits of Lebanon, MO; five grandchildren: Coda, Caidennce, Faith, Joshia and Kaden; two nieces; one nephew; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of William Henry Mullen III and may be left at the funeral home.

Man is shot to death, suspected shooter is critical, after fight in Pulaski County

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. – A man died, another man is in critical condition, and a woman is less seriously injured after a shooting in Pulaski County on Tuesday night. Investigators said Wednesday that the shooting was the result of an argument between several people at a drinking party at a home.
The man who died was William Mullen III, 47, of Waynesville. He died of a shotgun wound. The man who is in critical condition is Michael Fennell, 51.
Dispatchers at 8:08 p.m. sent sheriff’s deputies to Fennell’s home at 22170 Lafayette Road, which is between Waynesville and St. Robert. The deputies found Mullen dead and Fennell injured.
Within 10 minutes, they found a third shooting victim inside St. Robert. Shortly after 9 p.m., law officers found a fourth person who had been at the party at another place in St. Robert. The sheriff’s department hasn’t released the names of those two people.

Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood

Missouri Veterans Cemetery is located in Pulaski County, Missouri, near Fort Leonard Wood, on H Highway near Interstate 44, exit 156.

Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood is expected to be completed December 2009. The cemetery occupies 229 acres that was donated by U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center and Fort Leonard Wood. Initial construction will consist of 25 acres and will include an administration building, maintenance facility, a committal shelter for conducting interment services, and a columbarium wall for cremation interment. Construction of Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood, began late 2008 with a $7.5 million federal grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Missouri Veterans Cemeteries are also located in Springfield, Bloomfield, Higginsville, and Jacksonville.
