Gone to Rest

Loving friends weep not for him,

For he is now at rest;

How happy is your darling one,

Now pillowed on the Saviour’s breast.

Died, February 19^th, Emmett Earl Wood, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wood, aged 1 year, 8 months and 19 days. The little one was taken ill Thursday morning January 18^th from which time all help in human power was rendered, but to no avail. He got no better and Friday evening at 9 o’clock the Death angel hovered about him while he peacefully passed away resting in his mother’s arms. The remains were laid to rest in the Friendship cemetery Saturday, February 20. There his parents, relatives and friends bid him farewell until we meet again in the realms of perfect happiness where the weary are at rest and sad parting comes no more.

Little Ernest was a sweet and loving child, being loved by all who knew him. We will miss his bright and smiling little face, but God knows best and doeth all things well. We know his father, mother and little brother will miss him; no more to hear his sweet voice calling papa or mama or brother, but only think that your great loss is his gain, for God hath said “suffer little children to come unto me, and I will give them rest, for of such is the Kingdom of God. ---Ida B.

George Gilbert Wood 1913-1986

George Gilbert Wood was born a son of Ruffus E. Wood and Myrtle (Barnard) Wood on May 4, 1913 in Garden City, Missouri.  He departed this life October 23, 1986 at St. John’s Hospital having attained the age of 73 years five months 19 days.

He was united in marriage to Nellie Mae (Massey) June 3, 1935 and to this union four children were born.

George lived most of his life in the State of Missouri, except for 15 years in the State of California where he worked as a journeyman welder.  George and his family have been residents of Pulaski County since April, 1959.

He enjoyed fishing and worked as a guide on the Lake of the Ozarks for several years.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Nellie of Richland, two sons, Richard and Don of Laquey, Missouri, two daughters, Velda Clubb of Coolidge, Arizona, and Viola Carson of Winfield, Missouri, four brothers: Clyde of the State of Kansas; Leonard of Camdenton, Missouri; Merle and Jack of the State of Washington; one sister, Mary Lou Thurmerdo of the State of Texas, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Sunday, October 26, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Tallant officiating.

Burial was in the Palace Cemetery under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Music was furnished by Dorothy Moore.

Those serving as escorts were: George Hill, Gerald McCoy, Roger McCoy, Rolla McCoy, Carl McGee, and Larry Thornhill.

Rachael Suzanne (Wood) Seedyk 1984-2004

Rachael Suzanne (Wood) Seedyk, was born to Jeffrey and Jerri (Woltz) Wood on May 5, 1984 in Lancaster, Ohio. Rachael and her family moved to the Waynesville - St. Robert area in 1995. She was a student in the Waynesville R-VI School District and graduated from Waynesville High School in 2003.

On March 28, 2003 in Dixon, Missouri, Rachael was united in marriage to Jonathan Michael Seedyk. They were making plans to move to Texas where Jonathan would be stationed with the United States Army.

Rachael was a very loving person. She had many friends and acquaintances. She was loved by many people for her wonderful zest for life.

Rachael passed away the morning of Wednesday, May 19, 2004 as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident at the age of 20 years and 14 days.

Rachael will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her husband: PFC Jonathan Seedyk; her parents: Rev. Jeff and Jerri Wood; one sister: Stephanie Wood all of Waynesville, MO; father and mother-in-law: Russell and Charlotte Seedyk of St. Robert, MO; paternal grandparents: Donald and Dorothy Wood of Avon Park, FL; maternal grandfather: Russell Woltz of Lancaster, OH; sister-in-law: Dawn Binder of Knob Noster, MO; two brothers-in-law: Russell Seedyk of Woodbridge, VA and Christopher Seedyk of St. Robert, MO; six aunts: Annette Wood, a missionary in Bolivia, Denise Riffle of Kingston, OH, Joyce Kirkwood of Hesperia, CA, June Kistler of Sugar Grove, OH, Jeannette Lecrone and Judy Woltz, both of Lancaster, OH; one aunt: Pat McKinney of Lancaster, OH; two uncles: Roger Wood of Anchorage, AK, and Michael Woltz of Lancaster, OH; several cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Faye Woltz.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 22, 2004 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Pastor William Kempen officiating. Rachaels husband, Jon Seedyk and friend, Chris Denny, both gave beautiful eulogies. The songs "His Eye Is on the Sparrow", "My Heart Will Go On", "Amazing Grace", "It's Hard to Say Goodbye", "Someday","Here without You" and "Living on A Prayer" were played. Serving as escorts were Brandon Balk, Krys Denney, Adam Reichert, Chris Seedyk, Earl Wieprecht and Devon Williams.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Emmet E. Wood 1924-2001

Emmet E. Wood of Bourbon, Mo. passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at
the age of 77 years.
Mr. Wood was born on July 25, 1924 in Bloodland, Mo. to the late Wayne and
Bessie (Gaede) Wood. As a young boy, he moved with his family to St. Louis.
He continued to reside in the St. Louis area until July 1999, when he and
his wife, Mildred, moved to Bourbon. Emmet worked for many years as a
foreman in the steel industry and later in the construction business.
He enjoyed watching boxing matches on TV, listening to country music, and
cars. Emmet will be remembered and cherished as a hard-working,
strong-willed man who carried a special love in his heart for his
daughters.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Wood of Bourbon; two daughters Janice
Isbell and husband, Robert, of Cuba, Mo. and Pamela Sandifer and husband,
Gene, of House Springs, Mo.; three grandchildren Mathew and Rachel Isbell
and Joshua Sandifer; one great-grandchild, Danielle Isbell; nieces,
nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood
was preceded in death by two brothers, Gus Ruhl and Frank Stewart, one
sister, Daisy Grim, and one grandson, Nathan Isbell.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2001
from the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon with Reverend Leroy Bryant officiating.
Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be
made to Mt. Calvary Cemetery Perpetual Care in memory of Mr. Emmet E. Wood.

Jennie Belle (Wood) (Potts) Hamm 1903- May 1985

Jennie Belle (Wood) (Potts) Hamm, 82, resident of Oklahoma for the past 15 years, died at 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday in the Jane Phillips Hospital where she had been admitted earlier in the day. Mrs. Hamm had been in failing health since November of last year.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hamm were held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the sanctuary of the Ochelata Fire Baptized Holiness Church. The Rev. Ca_ Knight was the officiant. Committal prayers and interment were directed in the Ochelata Cemetery by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.

A native of Missouri, Mrs. Hamm was born at Brownfield on May 10, 1903. She was the daughter of the late Daisy Doyel Wood and Thomas W. Wood. She was reared in the Brownfield community and received her education in the Brownfield schools. She moved to Bloodland, Missouri in 1921 and she was married to James E. Potts in Bloodland on December 28, 1921. They engaged in farming in the Bloodland area for over 20 years prior to moving to Richland, Missouri, where they were residents until his death on February 13, 1947. On November 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Rev. C.C. Hamm and they established their home in Cherryvale, Kansas. Rev. Hamm served pastorates of Fire Baptized Holiness Churches in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Following his retirement in 1963, the Hamms returned to Cherryvale, Kansas to re-establish their home. Rev. Hamm preceded her in death in Cherryvale on June 20, 1970 and during that year Mrs. Hamm moved to Ochlata to live in retirement near her sons. She was an active member of the Ochelata Fore Baptized Holiness Church and had taught Sunday School for many years until her recent illness.

Surviving Mrs. Hamm are two sons: James Ronald Potts and Roger A. Potts, both of Ochelata; two step daughters: Mrs. Velma Wright and Mrs. Ruth Robinson, both of Parsons, Kansas; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three brothers, tow daughters and three grandchildren.

James C. Wood 1855-1905

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

James C. Wood died on Baldridge, Feb. 16th 1905 at 3 p.m., aged 49 ys, 2 ms, & 19 ds. Burial at the Wood Cemetery on Sat., Feb. 18th 1905, burial completed at 2 p.m. He left companion 7 children, one brother, Rufus M. Wood and 2 sisters, Mrs. Philander Tate, and Mrs. Wiley McLaughlin. Funeral service by me at the cemetery at 1 p.m., Sat. Feb. 18th.

Samuel G. Wood was born in Pulaski Co., Missouri, Sept. 29th 1860, died by being shot and killed by Dora Pruett, Oct 5th 1889 at 8 p.m., aged 29 ys. and 6 days. Singing, Prayer, and remarks at the Wood Cemetery by J.J. Watts, Oct 8th 1889 at 11 a.m. Buried by the Bayon Wheel. 2 brothers and 2 sisters survive.
