Mr. Jones was united in marriage on March 15, 1914, in Maries County, to the former Miss Agnes Emeline Bacon, and to this union six children were born. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Agnes E. Jones on July 2, 1974; one daughter, Miss Donna E. Jones on November 14, 1932; three brothers, Arthur Jones, Lem Jones, and Gail Jones; and three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Wiles, Mrs. Bessie Creech and Mrs. Genie Jarrett.
Mr. Jones had a life long affiliation with the Christian Church and attended the Santee Community Church near Dixon as long as his health permitted. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at an early age and followed his Lord in baptism. A farmer and carpenter for all his working life, Mr. Jones was diligent in providing for his family and rearing his family.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Jones include: two sons, Paul Jones and Bill Jones, both of Dixon; three daughters, Mrs. Reba Humphrey and Mrs. Mearl Clark, both of Dixon, and Mrs. Catherine Goad, Richland; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A loving father, grandfather and friend, Mr. Jones will indeed be sadly missed by his dear family and all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Jones at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, June 7, 1984 at the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with the Rev. Wilson Davis, Newburg Church of God, officiating.
Dewayne Brown sang “The Last Mile Of The way” and “Mansion Over The Hilltop” for the funeral service and was accompanied by Miss Brenda Taylor.
Interment was in the Fairview cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. Active pallbearers for Mr. Jones were: John David Rujawitz, Jimmy Rujawitz, Darryl Jones, Jerry Sims, Richard Ledbetter, and Donnie Tomlinson. Honorary pallbearers were: Jim Jones, Dean Sims, Farris Jones, and Clay Williams.
