Percy Wayne Wilson, of Fenton, was born on February 8, 1946, at
Washington, a son of Leonard Clay and Olive Reba (Renfrow) Wilson, and
departed this life at 12:26 P.M., Friday, April 20, 2012, in the SSM St.
Clair Health Center, Fenton. Mr. Wilson had attained the age of 66
years, 2 months, and 12 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Freddie Wilson; and one brother-in-law, Elzie Helton.
Mr. Wilson was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2177, Fenton, the American Legion Post
No. 0400, Fenton; and the Gateway Country Music Association. He had
been a musician for all his life as well as a former front man for
Stonewall Jackson. He had worked with the best of the great stars in
country music from Cal Smith to Webb Pierce and Hank Williams, Jr. Mr.
Wilson had his own recording career in 1977 and a single that made the
charts called “Dealing with the Devil”. He also had been employed at
Sandy’s Carpet World as a salesman for several years prior to his
retiring in 2007. Mr. Wilson enjoyed playing and listening to music,
and fishing.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Wilson include: His former wife,
Carol Wilson, Arnold; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul and Aleesa
Wilson, Fenton, and Leonard Wilson, Arnold; five grandchildren, Paul
Casey Wilson, Jeramy Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Justin Wilson, and Josephine
Wilson; one great-grandson, Connor Wilson; one brother, Leonard Wilson,
Jr., Dixon; one sister, Betty Helton, Meta; and other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Wilson at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday,
April 25, 2012, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon, with Bro.
Manuel Seaton, Camp Ground Christian Church, Meta, officiating.
Interment with full military honors was in the Dixon Cemetery under the
direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services,
Dixon. Active pallbearers for Mr. Wilson were Junior Wilson, Paul Casey
Wilson, Leonard Wilson, Kenny Wyss, Brian Helton, Darrell Wyss and
Steve Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Hill and Blake Helton.
Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Association or the
American Diabetes Association with envelopes available at the
Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon.
