Elmer Gene Shivers 1959-2008

Elmer Gene Shivers, son of Kenneth Gene and Eleanor Ruth (Long) Shivers, was born March 26, 1959 in Waynesville, Missouri where he grew up and attended school. Elmer was a 1977 graduate of Waynesville High School.

Elmer accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Westside Baptist Church.

In 1981, Elmer was united in marriage to Denise Tennenbaum in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared 10 years of marriage together and were blessed with two children: Kenneth Kenny and Lauren.

Elmer was a hardworking man and worked in the heating and air conditioning business as long as his health permitted him to do so. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors while fishing and playing sports. During his high school years and a few years after high school, Elmer played football, baseball and even coached and sponsored a softball team. He was very active and loved sports. Elmer was a people person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandson.

Elmer passed away at 5:38 A.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Missouri at the age of 49 years, 8 months and 7 days.

Elmer will be very sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his mother: Eleanor Shivers of St. Robert, MO; two children: Kenny Shivers and Lauren Shivers, both of St. Louis, MO; maternal grandmother: Myrtle Long of St. Robert, MO; two sisters: Sondra Negrete of Waynesville, MO and Connie Shivers-Wirt of Fayetteville, NC; one grandson: Dylan; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his father: Kenneth G. Shivers; maternal grandfather: Elmer Long; and paternal grandparents: Ralph and Flossie Shivers.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 6, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Elmers nephew, Jared Wirt read a poem in memory of his uncle. Paul Wirt, Elmers brother-in-law, recalled his wonderful memories of Elmer. The songs I Can Only Imagine, Sanctuary and Lord of the Dance were played. Serving as escorts were Bill Tallant, Gordon Rigsby, Mark Milka, David Harbaugh, Scott Lindsey, and Mark Shea.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elmer Shivers to the Waynesville Park System Capital Improvement Fund and may be left at Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
