Frederick Basil Davis 1954-2011

Frederick Basil Davis passed from this life the afternoon of May 6, 2011, at Lake Regional Medical Center, Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of 56 years and 10 months.

Son of Richard H. Davis and Marjorie Merril (Newsom) Davis Vaughn, Fred was born July 6, 1954 in Shreveport, Louisiana. When Fred was a young boy, the family moved to Baton Rouge where he grew up and graduated from high school.

In 1971, Fred went to boot camp at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Fourth Battalion, Company B.

On December 28, 1984 in Waynesville, Missouri, Fred was united in marriage with Georgia L. (Keeney). Fred and Georgia shared over 26 years of marriage and four children: Richard Paul, Richell Elizabeth, Melissa Jane and Tammie Jo.

Fred worked as a technician / installer for Cable America and later for Fidelity phone and cable company.

Fred was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his wife: Georgia of the home; parents: Marjorie and Tom Vaughn of Shreveport, LA; four children: Richard Paul Davis and Richell Elizabeth Davis, both of Houma, LA, Melissa Jane Leaman (Thomas W.) and Tammie Jo Clark (John A Shattuck), all of St. Robert, MO; one brother: Franky Thomas Despino, Sr. of Coushatta, LA; one sister: Stacey Jo Vaughn Durr (Donny) of Shreveport, LA; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Rose Smith, Kevin Thomas Leaman, Tiffany Balerio, Brittny Jazz Leaman, Dalton Frederick Click, Amanda Lynn Click and Scott Albert Mercier, Jr “Spike”; three great grandchildren: Michael Loman and Joseph Henry Smith, Sara Balerio and Madison Rose Smith (on the way); seven maternal aunts, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his father: Richard H. Davis; a niece: Nicole Rachel Despino; a nephew: Col. Thomas Cable, Jr. and a maternal aunt: Myrtle Newsom Leuran.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. Donny Durr officiating. Friend of the family, Kim Jones recalled her wonderful memories of Fred. The songs “Stand By Me”, “Stuck Like Glue” and “I Can Only Imagine” were played. Serving as escorts were Todd Doyle, Larry Tanner, Steve Wilkinson, Richard Strutton, Jimmy Vogt and Jeremy Loveall. Serving as honorary escorts were Earl Blivens, James Nicks and George Campbell.

Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
