Graveside services were held Monday, April 18, at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Beth Torah Section. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Beth Torah or Village Shalom.
Mr. Kaplan was born in Chicago, Ill., where he attended high school. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, returning to Chicago to attend junior college. He left college to support his family after the death of his father.
He met the former Alice Jacob in Chicago and they were married in 1949. They then moved to Waynesville, Mo., where he started his own business, “Best Men’s Store,” which he operated from 1950 until his retirement in 1983, at which time they moved to Kansas City.
Mr. Kaplan was a founding member of Congregation Beth Torah.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Kaplan, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, David Kaplan, Leawood, Kan.; Gordon and Cheryl Kaplan, Aptos, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Donna Kaplan, Coconut Creek, Fla.; sisters, Eleanor Wise, Chicago, and Sandra Geller, Jupiter, Fla. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Ben Kaplan, Dani Kaplan, Matt Kaplan and Leah Kaplan.
