He was a life long resident of Waynesville. He served in the army and Merchant Marines. He retired from Civil Service after working 28 years at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was commended by the army several times for his work there.
After his retirement in June, 1979 he lived on his farm where he was born and raised which he loved.
He was a member of the Deerlick Baptist Church, and the Masonic Lodge 375 A.F. & A.M..
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 10, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Pryor Prewitt officiating.
Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
Those serving as pallbearers were Dale Johnson, Gary Johnson, Gregory Dye, Dennis Dye, Billy Dye, and Lee Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Lester Johnson, Stewart Jackson, and David Dye.
He is survived by two brothers, Herman of Waynesville, Mo. And Donald of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Ida Johnson of Winnebago, Illinois, and Lois Jackson of Tustin, California; seven nephews and four nieces; two aunts and one uncle; and his many friends.
