When Leon was twelve years old, he was saved, baptized and became a member of the Idumea Baptist Church. Later moving his membership to the First Baptist Church of Buckhorn. In February of 1985 he rededicated his life and moved back home to Idumea. He went around telling people how the Lord had spared his life and gave him another chance.
On September 17, 1966 he was united in marriage with Arlene Ogle and to this union was born two children, both surviving.
He was united in marriage with Sue Joiner on February 14, 1982.
Leon was employed with Trailliner Trucking Company of Springfield, Mo., for the past two years. He has made Laquey his home for most of his life.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 13, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Russell Randolph and Rev. Don Martin officiating.
Resting place was in the Idumea Cemetery.
Escorts for Mr. Thornhill were Alvin Lowery, Dallas Hendrix, Joe Skidmore, Marvin Gan, Marvin Stafford and Gary Humphrey.
Those left to mourn his passing include a son Jerry and a daughter Kelly, both of Lebanon; his mother Lillian Thornhill of Laquey; one brother, Larry of Laquey; two sisters, Linda York of Laquey and Leona Sanders of Stella, Mo; four nephews, Craig, Chris, Adam, and Jeremy; and one niece, Jessica; also his aunts, uncles, several cousins and a host of friends.
Leon was a person who made friends easy and had lots of them.
