He attended school at Waynesville and entered the army in 1942 during World War II and served 3 years in Europe. He was united in marriage to Rotha Nell Halford on January 1, 1946 and they shared 40 years together, and to this union 5 children were born. He worked at Ft. Leonard Wood in the motor pool under civil service until he retired in 1982 with 32 years. He was also in partnership with his brother in Gibson Brothers Garage for 15 years at Laquey, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife Rotha, Rt. 2, Richland, Mo.; 5 children, Robert K. Gibson, of Mountain Home, Ark., Sheila Odom of Orange, Tx., Richard C. Gibson, of Dallas, Tx., Teresa Alkire, of laquey, Mo., and Janene Elizey of Laquey, Mo., 9 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Roy, Gene, and Bill of Laquey, Mo. And Junior of Kansas City, Mo.; 2 sisters Alma Prewett of Waynesville, Mo., and Thelma O’Nell of Cleveland, Tx. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and 2 brothers Cecil and Russell.
Funeral services for Mr. Gibson were held July 2, 1986 at the Idumea Baptist Church with Rev. Don Martin and Rev. Russell Randolph pastor of the Idumea Baptist Church officiating. Music was provided by Dorothy Moore, Pianist, solos by Iva Mae Case and Charles Folkert. Serving as Pallbearers were Steven Kelsey, Shannon Kelsey, Charley Bench, Tracy Gibson, Darold Wieners, Sr. Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Hobbs, Howard Slawson, Fred Gibson, and Curtis Halford. Interment was in the Idumea Baptist Church Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
