On May 7, 1932 he was united in marriage with Nelle Lea and they have enjoyed 531/2 years together. To this union was born one daughter, who survives.
Serle worked for Shell Pipeline Corporation for 40 years, including assignments in Maracaibo, Venezeula and 13 ½ months in Indonesia, before retirement in 1963.
He has been a longtime member of the Richland United Methodist Church and very active in community projects over the years. In 1926, Serle joined the Masonic Lodge; the Scottish Rite; and became a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine for over 55 years, and a member of the Order of The Eastern Star.
Serle enjoyed his home and working in his yard. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when someone was in need.
He is survived by his wife Nelle of the home; one daughter; Kathy Thybony and son-in-law Bill Thybony of Reston, Virginia; one brother: Clifford and one sister: Norma Lane, both of Buffalo, Missouri; three step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Serle is remembered by everyone as being kind, loving, generous and gentle.
Services were held Tuesday, January 7, 1986, 1:30 p.m. at the Richland United Methodist Church with Rev. John Appling officiating.
Music was provided by Mary Lou Beckner, soloist and Mrs. F.A. Jones, organist.
Escorts were Jack Shewmaker, Neal Warren, Greg Warren, Rex Shewmaker, Bill Warren, and Jesse Allen.
Honorary escorts were: Jimmie Beckner, Bob Hale, Buzz Miller, James Tanner, Clint Jarrett, Bob Gorman, Gaylord Douglas, James Kissinger, Earl Eoff, and Bill Lane.
Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland.
