He was united in marriage to Mrs. Cynthia Smith, in April 1865, and to this union 7 children were born—5 boys and 2 girls, two of them preceding him in death. The surviving are: B. F. Helton, Licking, Mo., G. B. Helton, Pryor, Okla., I. M. Helton, Vinita, Okla., Mrs. Isabelle Adams, Evening Shade, Mo., and S. L. Helton, Evening Shade, with whom he made his home at the time of his death.
Mr. Helton was one of the oldest citizens of Pulaski County, and was also a Civil War veteran.
Uncle Ike, as he was familiarly known, was a member of the old Missionary Baptist Church, at Baldridge. Besides his children, he leaves to mourn his passing, 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
The remains were laid to rest in the Palace Cemetery beside his wife, who preceded him to the Great Beyond 20 years ago.
