William H. Christeson 1867-1924

Special thanks to Mike Christeson of Little Rock, Arkansas for sharing this obituary.

William H. Christeson, who for a number of years resided in Dixon, died from paralysis at his home in Ulman, Miller county, last Monday Sept. 22.

Though he and Mrs. Christeson had made their home in Ulman for some time, where they owned a good farm, they retained their excellent residence building in Dixon until recently, when they sold it to JL Eads.

Mr. Christeson was among the best of citizens and of course practically numbered his friends by his acquaintance.

He was born May 24, 1867, being 57 years, 3 months, and 28 days old.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Romine form the Christian Church in Dixon at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday and internment was in Dixon cemetery.

Albert Christeson 1880-1917

Special thanks to Mike Christeson of Little Rock, Arkansas for sharing this obituary.

April 20, Albert Christeson called home. Albert Christeson of Waynesville, brother of P. A. Christeson and Mrs. R.C. Roose of Dixon, died last Tuesday in Waynesville after a long illness.

Mr. Christeson was one of the best known and most liked business men of the county., having been in the hardware business a number of years. On account of his affliction he gave up his business a few months ago and assumed charge of the office of the County Treasurer, for which he was unanimously chosen by the voters of the county. His un-expired term will likely be filled by his wife, who has recently been acting in his stead.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Millard Shockley and internment was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the rites of the Masonic Order of which he was an esteemed member.

He leaves his wife, mother, seven sisters and one brother.

To know Albert Christeson was to be his friend. He was a true Christian and had informed his relatives and friends that he was ready and prepared to meet the death messenger.

Floyd Christeson 1908-1909

Special thanks to Mike Christeson of Little Rock, Arkansas for sharing this obituary.

Floyd Christeson, son of E. C. and Bertha Christeson was born in Pondarey, Idaho, April 10, 1908 and departed this life in Dixon, Mo., Dec. 21, 1909 at 8:00 a.m. aged 1year, 8 months and 11 days.

On account of afflictions of his mother [and he being so young] she was unable to care fro him, so he was taken to his aunt’s in Mellville, Washington for a while, and from there brought to Dixon to his grandpa Christeson‘s for a few days. On the 29th of Oct. he went to live with his Uncle Frank and Aunt May Christeson.

Little Floyd had become attached to his Aunt May on the train as they came to Dixon; he loved her; there was an affinity to her from the time they met until the end came. He was taken sick on the 12th of this month. The disease baffled the physicians; they did all they could to relieve the little sufferer; but all in vain, they could not save the loved and restore the health again, although they did all they could, for he was a bright and promising child; but there comes a time when all human agencies fail, and death claims our loved ones, and we have to take the parting hand and lay them away in the silent.

He was patient in his afflictions, good to take his medicine, kind and affectionate, a loveable disposition, do what you wanted him to. He was loved by all who knew him, seemed to be a favorite among his acquaintances, and loved especially in the home where he passed away, and they could not have done more to save the dear one if he had been their own. [more]

The funeral was conducted at the home of brother Frank Christeson , to a good number of relatives and friend s at 2:30 p.m. and then we laid his little body in the Dixon cemetery to await the resurrection morn. May God bless the father and mother [who could not be present], relatives and friends and may they also live as to meet him in heaven.

Joseph Christeson d. May 7, 1904

Special thanks to Mike Christeson of Little Rock, Arkansas for sharing this obituary.

Joseph Christeson died at his home last Saturday of a complication of diseases. He had been an invalid for four or five years, but had not been confined to his bed but about three months, and though a great sufferer he bore it all very patiently. By his death, our neighborhood has lost one it’s most highly esteemed citizens, who was well beloved by all. Funeral services were held at Friendship church Sunday, conducted by his pastor Rev. Newton Manes. Interment was made in Friendship cemetery.

Editor’s note: This was published in the Pulaski County Democrat May 13, 1904. This would make the date of Joseph’s death May 7, 1904.

Elisha Jordan Christeson 1819-1902

Special thanks to Mike Christeson of Little Rock, Arkansas for sharing this obituary.

Elisha Jordan Christeson was born in Green County, KY, November 24, 1819, and died in Pulaski County, MO, May 4, 1902, aged 82 years, 5 months, 10 days. At the age of 10 years he came from Kentucky with his parents who settled in Pulaski County on a farm, a part of which he owned and lived on until his death. He was married in 1844 to Sarah Colley, oldest sister of our fellow townsman, Mr. G.W. Colley, she being now almost 77 years of age. To this union were born eleven children, seven boys and four girls, all except one of whom are still living, the oldest daughter having died several years ago.

Mr. Christeson has known this country from it’s early settlement and has seen it grow from a howling wilderness to it’s present high state of cultivation and civilization. He had the misfortune in April 1861 to lose his sight, since which time he has remained in total darkness as to what was transpiring in this world, but through all these years of affliction he has maintained his cheerfulness and excellent spirits. He was a man highly respected by his friends and neighbors, and loved by those who knew him most intimately.

His remains were laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery Monday, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Allen of M.E. Church, south.

Mrs. Sarah C. Christeson 1824-1908

Special thanks to Mike Christeson of Little Rock, Arkansas for sharing the following obituary.

The death of Mrs. Sarah C. Christeson removes from our midst one of the oldest landmarks of
pulaski county. She was the eldest child of the late Cyrus Colley, who was one of the early pioneers of the county, and was born in the state of Kentucky, December 1, 1824.

In the year 1830 she emigrated with her parents to Missouri and settled on Colley Hollow and has resided in this immediate vicinity up to the time of her death. On October 21, 1844, she was married to E. J. Christeson, to which Union eleven children were born, eight of whom are yet living. In early life her husband became stricken with blindness, hereby causing the rearing of the children and the management of the family affairs to fall in a large extent upon her shoulders. She accepted the misfortune with Christian fortitude and Spartan courage and the fidelity with which she fulled that trust is best attested by her happy and prosperous family of children and grandchildren she leaves behind.

While of a retiring disposition, yet her cheerfulness was inspiring and her devotion to her family was of that noble, self-sacrificing quality which only a good, true, noble mother and the angels of heaven possess.

She had lived in this community for almost 80 years and she witnessed the transformation of a
trackless wilderness into beautiful town and farm. While she had lived for more than four score
years, yet every moment of that eventful life was benediction and a blessing to her loved ones.

Since the death of her husband she has made her home with the families of her children, at whose firesides she was ever an honored and welcome guest. She dies last Saturday at the residence of her son, Elisha, and was buried the following Sabbath at the family cemetery amid the tears and regrets of a large concourse of relatives and friends.
