Gene Farnham 1924-1995

Gene Farnham, 70, Waynesville, died Wednesday at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Ft. Leonard Wood. He was born June 13, 1924 in Iberia, a son of W. L. and Augusta P. Copeland Farnham. He was married September 10, 1942 in Crocker, to Maxine Ballew, who survives at the home.

A businessman in the Waynesville area for 50 years, he was a member of Masonic Lodge 375 AF & AM, and the Lion's Club. Other survivors include: one daughter, Susan Morriss, Waynesville; one brother, Don R. Farnham, Iberia; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Old Stagecoach Stop Foundation.

Floyd Alfro Atwill 1910-1995

Floyd Alfro Atwill, 84, of Waynesville died Monday, May 22, 1995, at Fort Leonard Wood. He was born Dec. 22, 1910, in Iberia to Lewis and Rose Atwill. In 1934 he was married to Juanita Evers of Linn Creek, who survives at the home.

 In 1941, Mr. Atwill was employed at the Quartermaster Laundry at Fort Leonard Wood. When the base closed in 1945, he and his family moved to Lebanon where he owned and operated a dry cleaning plant. In 1950, when Fort Leonard Wood was re-opened, he was called back to the laundry as general foreman. He sold his business in Lebanon and moved to Waynesville. After a year as general foreman, he was promoted to general manager of the Quartermaster Laundry and Dry Cleaning plants, a position he held until his retirement in 1970. After his retirement, he was elected to serve a pair of two-year terms as city assessor in Waynesville. He was a member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church, Waynesville Masonic Lodge 375, AF &M, the Scottish Rite of Joplin and the Shrine in Springfield. He also was a member of the Waynesville Eastern Star Chapter and served four years as its worthy patron. In February, 1993 he was presented with a 50-year pin as a member of the Masonic Lodge.

 In addition to his wife, Mr. Atwill is survived by a son, Lewis Atwill; and a granddaughter, Michelle. Masonic services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were held there with the Rev. Jesse Norris officiating. Burial was in Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesville United Methodist Church.
