“A BABY’S SECRET”

I'm just a little fellow
Who didn't quite make it there
I went straight to be with Jesus
but I'm waiting for you here.

Don't you fret about me Mommy
I'm of all God's lambs more blessed;
I'd have loved to stay there with you
but the shepherd knows what's best.

Many dwelling here where I live
waited years to enter in
struggled through a world of sorrow
and their lives were marred with sin.

So sweet mommy don't you sorrow
wipe those tears and chase the gloom,
I went straight to Jesus' bosom
from my lovely mother's womb.

Thank you for the life you gave me,
it was brief but don't complain;
I have all of Heaven's glory
suffered none of Earthling's pain.

Thank you for the name you gave me
I'd have loved to brought it fame
but if I'd lingered in Earth's shadows
I might instead of brought it shame.
Daddy gave me something for you
it's our secret, mommy dear,
pressed it tight against my forehead
whispered in my tiny ear.

I'll be waiting for you mommy-
you and daddy, bub and sis
I'll be with you then forever,
and I'll give you daddy's kiss.

This is a poem that is dedicated to my Granddad. He has inspired me so much, that I wish to offer him my thanks.

MY GRANDDAD

My Granddad isn’t any different than yours,
Except he does seem special to me.
He never had much to say,
But when he speaks, I listen.

He can recall his younger days,
Even though he is gray with age.
He can’t get around as well as he used to,
But he still never quits trying.

Fear is an unknown word to him,
For there is nothing he feels that can scare him,
Even untamed animals don’t bother him.
He has been working around them since birth.

My Granddad has a set time clock for himself,
Which he never breaks, no matter how ill he is.
It all begins at sun-up, and continues all day.
Even sometimes after the sun has gone down.

Just by looking at him,
You would never really know him.
It is only through fellowship
That you really get to know him.

He has experienced many heartaches,
From many different sources.
But through all the sorrow,
He always looks toward tomorrow.

I haven’t spent a whole lot of time with him,
But the time I have, Oh it was fun.
One day it will be Granddad’s turn to die,
And I will probably cry.

But until that time I will enjoy
Every moment I am around him,
My Grand Old Granddad

Lena Faye Roam was a loving mother. Her goal in life was to see her family serve the Lord, a Lord that she has served since early childhood. In fact she left this message to her family to be read at the time of her death:

“Jesus has gone to prepare a mansion for those who love Him and do His will. This world is only a dressing place to get ready to go to that mansion. He has gone to prepare where we dwell with Him forever in that mansion bright and fair. So, dear ones, do not grieve for me. I have made myself ready to meet my Jesus over there. Get ready to meet me on that bright and happy shore where there will be no parting sorrow or pain, where we will be with Jesus forever more. So lay up your treasures in Heaven, not in this world of sorrow, pain and woe. You may own countless acres, a world’s estate. You may dwell in a costly and great palace, but the mansion in Glory will only be given to those whose treasures are laid up in Heaven.”

She also left this poem:

“Lost on the sea of life
Confused and torn within
I sought some ray of light
To guide me safely in.

For from the paths of men
Came the love and grace so bold
The Voice of the Nazarene
Bid me come and join His fold.

Tenderly remove the stain of sin
And made me every bit whole
Now with all that in me is
I give to Him my life and soul.”

Although she left this message and poem to her immediate family; her other relatives, friends, and neighbors know that she intends this for them too. We believe her final words to us would be “God bless you all.”.

John Earl Morgan 1916-1985

John Earl Morgan was born February 20, 1916 and died February 20, 1985 on his 69th birthday. Earl, as he was known locally, was the first born son of Tom and Addie Sailing Morgan and spent his early childhood growing up on Pulaski County Farms.

While Earl was still a boy his family moved into the town of Waynesville. His good disposition and lively personality must have been evident even then because, years later, Lulu Christeson recalled that he was “the cutest little boy I ever gave piano lessons to.”

Earl graduated from Waynesville High School in 1933. The Navy appealed to him but his parents wouldn’t give him permission for him to enlist so he spent the next four years working for Springfield Wholesale Grocery Company.

In 1937 the lure of the sea won out and Earl signed up for a career in the Navy. He rapidly worked his way upward through the ranks, becoming Chief Petty Officer at an unusually young age. Spending much of his time aboard ships, he saw combat in the South Pacific in World War II and was also involved in the Korean Conflict. Earl loved Navy life and had many tales to tell of his adventures during those years.

Earl met Bernice “Bea” Gobble (pronounced Gobel) in San Diego and they were married in 1954. Three years later he completed 20 years of service and retired.

He then started a second career working as an assistant manager for a wholesale grocery business in California and stayed with the company for 18 years until poor health forced him to quit. In 1975 he and Bea moved to Waynesville because, as Earl said to Bea, “I was born in Missouri and I want to die there.”

Earl maintained his zest for life during these last ten years in Waynesville. He enjoyed helping out at the Morgan farm, telling stories, tramping through the woods with a good friend, cooking and baking, and carefully tending the garden he put in nearly every year. Despite failing health, he never failed to bring smiles and good spirits to his friends and neighbors.

“Old sailors never die, they just sail away.”

John Earl Morgan has sailed away and we shall miss him.
