Lena May Whitaker 1844-1908

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

Lena May Whitaker, wife of Bro. John J. Whitaker and daughter of Johna F. Knapp, died at W.M. Whitaker's home near Relfe, Sept. 13th 1908 a.m., aged 24 ys, 3 ms., & 20 ds. Leaving 4 children, husband, 1 own sister & 6 half bros. & sis., father, step mother. Burial service at the Watts Lawn Cemetery by J.J. Watts on Mon. Sept. 14th 1908 at 3 p.m.

Susie Jane (Whitaker) Deer 1875-1897

Susie Jane Deer, wife of Amos Franklin Deer and daughter of William M. and Mary M. Whitaker, was born in Pulaski County, KY, June 12, 1875 and died near Moab P.O. in Pulaski County, MO, Oct. 24, 1897, aged 22 ys, 4 ms and 12 ds. A funeral sermon was preached by me at the Ellsworth Church May 8, 1898 at 11 a.m., Sunday, from Phil. 1X21. Husband, 2 children, father, mother, 4 brothers and 4 sisters present. J. J. Watts
