Virgie O. Hutton, son of Elmer and Lou Pritchett Hutton, was born in Camden County on January 11, 1909 and departed this life at his home in Richland, July 18, 1984 after a lengthy illness.
Virgie was united in marriage with Opal Newell, September 17, 1933. To this union was born one daughter and three sons, all surviving.
He professed his faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized and became a member of the Beulah Baptist Church in 1941, and has remained a member there.
Virgie retired from the Pulaski County Highway Department , and after retirement he worked on small engines and was employed at Colonial Funeral Chapel for five years.
He is survived by his wife, Opal; one daughter, Barbara Brown of Richland; three sons, Dennis and David both of Richland, and Elmer Dean of Crocker; one brother, Joe Hutton of Richland; eleven grandchildren and three great grandsons; two sister-in-laws, Elva Hutton of Waynesville and Florence Hutton of LaMirada, California; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
Virgie is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Ellis, Leslie, Lloyd, Lee, Charlie, and twin brother Virgil and one infant sister, Pearl.
Virgie loved life, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and camping at the river. He held firm to the motto “whatever will be will be”. Just as early morning was Virgie’s favorite time of day the Lord called him home as the sun rose and the birds sang.
Services for Virgie O. Hutton were held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 21, 1984 at Colonial Funeral Chapel. Officiating at the services was Harvey Dye. Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, Soloist; and Marcia Shadel, Organist. Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Escorts were: Ralph Rogers, Harry Swift, Paul carter, John Carter, Jr., Larry Carter and Dale Carter. Honorary escorts were: Johnny Carter, Charles Carter, Jr., DeWayne carter, Mark Newell and Charles Roy Newell. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland.
