Sherd Maze, d 11 August 1902

SHERD MAZE died at Moab in Pulaski county, Mo., August 11th 1902, at 9 o’clock p.m. Brother Sherd Maze, aged 87 years, 7 months and 13 days.

Bro. Maze was born in Pulaski county, Ky., December 28th 1814; moved from there to Tenn., and was married to his first wife. Bro. Maze was married four times and was the father of eleven children. Two by his first wife both having been dead many years. Three by his second marriage, one, sister Nancy A. Ferrell, surviving him. Four by his third marriage, two, James R. and George W., surviving him. He had two children by his fourth marriage. One died young and the other, a daughter, married Omer Holloway and died a few years ago. Three children and his widowed companion survive him.

He had thirteen grandchildren, two of whom have passed away, and ten great grandchildren, six of whom are still living.

Bro. Maze was of a family of 8 sons and three daughters; he has lived in Missouri for thirty years or more and has only heard from one brother in all this time and it is not known if any survive him.

Bro. Maze accepted Christ and his promises and died (as he expressed it) ready and willing to go.

He was an honored member of the Masonic fraternity and a member of the Waynesville lodge at the time of his death, and was buried by the brotherhood at the Dry Creek cemetery on Wednesday at high noon, Bro. J.J. Watts conducting the religious services, using as a text, Rev. 21 and 25. “For there shall be no night there.”

Killed By Falling Tree

Waynesville, Mo. April 8- George W. Masee, a well-to-do farmer was killed yesterday while clearing woodland on his farm near Moab neighborhood. A tree he was chopping feel on him unexpectedly and crushed him.

Della May (Thomas) Maze1920-2000

Della May Maze was born January 22, 1920 in Birch Tree, MO in Shannon County. She was one of six children born to the union of the late Houston and Melinda Evalina (Nicholson) Thomas.

She went home to be with her Lord the afternoon of July 19, 2007 at her home in Jefferson City, MO, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 27 days.

Della grew up in Birch Tree where she attended grammar school, and graduated from Mtn View High School in 1938.

On February 8, 1943, Della was united in marriage with James Everett Maze, and to this union two children, Janet Sue and James Thomas, were born. She lost James Thomas in infancy, and James Everett preceded her in death on February 2, 1985.

When Della was young, she was baptized in the river near Alley Springs. She rededicated her life in later years at First Baptist Church of Waynesville where she was a long time, faithful and active member. She taught youth Sunday School classes, helped with Vacation Bible School and was a member of Women's Missions. She loved preparing her Sunday School lessons for the children.

Della enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, gardening, reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with family and friends, laughing and visiting. In her later years, she felt great pride in assisting at the nursing home with the "old folks."

Della was very dearly loved, and will be sadly missed by her daughter: Janet Sue Hart of Jefferson City, MO; one sister: Jewel Duncan of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, her baby son and her husband, Della was also preceded in death by four brothers: Lawrence, Lester, Howard and Leon Thomas.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Dr. Dennis Crowder officiating. The songs "Keep on the Sunny Side", "Down To The River To Pray", "I'll Fly Away" and "Precious Memories" were played. Della's daughter, Janet Hart sang "The Lord's Prayer" and read a beautiful eulogy that she had written about her mother. Serving as escorts were Brian Fitzsimmons, Joseph Fitzsimmons, Joel Hart and Dennis Vaught.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

George Washington Maze 1864-1911

George Washington Maze died by a falling tree, April 6th 1911. Tree fell at 5 p.m. & he died at 11 p.m., April 6th 1911, aged 46 ys., 3 ms., & 10 ds. A son of the late Sheridan Maze, of a family of 11 children, only 2 surviving: James R. Maze and Mrs. Nancy Ferrell. Buried on Friday, Apr. 7th 1911 at 3 p.m. at Dry Creek Cemetery after funeral service by J.J. Watts & The Modern Brotherhood of David.

She survives him. 3 children survive, Mrs. Nancy Ann Ferrell, James R. and George W. Maze. 13 grand children, 11 living. Bro. Maze was of a family of 11 child., 8 boys and 3 girls. On Wednesday Aug 13th at 10 o'clock a.m. service was held at the house by singing & prayer, after which his remains were taken charge of by the Masons and conveyed to the Dry Creek Cemetery where a funeral discourse was delivered by Watts, from Rev. 21X25. Then the Masonic ceremonies by Waynesville Lodge. Burial completed at 1-30 p.m.

Martha Ellen (Maze) Holloway 1876-1898

Martha Ellen, wife of James Omer Holloway, and daughter of Sherd and Saphrona Maze, was born at the old homestead near Moab Post Office in Pulaski County, Missouri, January 23, 1876, married to Mr. James Omer Holloway, January 31, 1897, and died where she was born, January 8, 1898, aged 21 ys. 11 ms and 14 ds. (Her pet name was Della) A funeral discourse was preached by me at the Maze School House, July 24, 1898 at 11 a.m. from Phil. 1X23 using the hymns 447 and 293 in vocalist. She leaves Father, Mother, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 1 child. J. J. Watts
