Elbert Rayl d. 12 June 1906

Elbert Rayl, an old citizen of Pulaski County, died at the home of his son-in-law, H.M. York, seven miles south of town, Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock and was buried at the family burying ground just north of town Wednesday. Mr. Rayl was about 70 years old and was raised in and near Waynesville. He was the oldest brother of S.O Rayl of Waynesville and J.A. Rayl of Crocker and had a world of friends in this community who regret very much to learn of his death. He had long been a sufferer from a complication of ailments and his death had been expected for some time. The sorrowing relatives have our profound sympathy.

Rayl Cemetery

Rayl Cemetery, also spelled Rayle Cemetery, is located in Pulaski County, MO., near Waynesville, Missouri on Revere Lane, formerly named Pippin Road. This road is blocked off with a locked gate before you can reach Rayl Cemetery. If you could continue along this road you may be able to see the ruins of Pippin Place. This road also takes you to the site of Bartlett's Mill, believed to be one of the first settlements in Pulaski County.

Rayl Cemetery has approximately 26 marked graves. In addition to members of the Rayle family, a member of the Bell family is buried here also. The oldest tombstone is that of Sarah Bell Rayl, who passed away 17 November, 1860, at the age of 7 years and 17 days. The newest headstone belongs to Virgil Rayl, who died 15 January, 1975, at the age of ninety.

Samuel Octavis Rayl 1839-1914

Samuel Octavis Rayl, son of Jesse A. and Sarah J. Rayl, was born May 10, 1839, in Tennessee, and died December 23, 1914, aged 79 years.

He was united in marriage to Nancy E. Vaughan, who still survives, October 15, 1863. Deceased was the second child of a family of ten children, 7 boys and 3 girls, all of whom have passed away except Crocia Ann Winds of Washburn, Missouri. He united with the Methodist Church many years ago. Deceased was highly respected by all who knew him.
