Shirley Jean (Hatfield) Hillian 1947-2004

Shirley Jean Hillian was born February 11, 1947 in Bloomington, Illinois. She was the only daughter, and one of two children born to the union of Gordon W. and Velma G. (Threlkeld) Hatfield.

When Shirley was very young, her family moved to the Pulaski County, Missouri area, where she graduated from Waynesville High School in 1965.

Shirley professed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized in the river near Dixon when she was a young woman. She attended the Grace Covenant Christian Center.

Shirley worked as a waitress at several area restaurants including the Arches in St. Robert and places in Dixon, but most of her life was dedicated to the love and care of her three precious children, Sheila, Julia and Michael. She also cooked and cared for all of their friends who would gather at her home. She also enjoyed reading, doing crafts and collecting lighthouses. Shirley took cake decorating classes and made beautiful, delicious cakes.

Shirley went home to be with her Lord the afternoon of Thursday, February 19, 2004 at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 57 years and 7 days.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother: Velma Hatfield; two daughters: Sheila and Julia Godfrey; one son: Michael P. Hillian; one brother: Roger Hatfield, all of Dixon, MO; 8 grandchildren: Natasha Hillian, Alex, Thomas, James, and Jason Godfrey, Mia Hillian, Gracia and Dustin Hatfield; one nephew: Richard Hatfield and one niece: Roberta Hatfield; several other relatives and friends.

Shirley's father, Gordon Hatfield preceded her in death in 1976.

A memorial service was held at 3:30 PM Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Grace Covenant Christian Center with Pastor Judi Tillett officiating. Soloist Brenda Sands sang "Amazing Grace" and the song "Because You Loved Me" was played. Shirley's son, Michael, gave a beautiful eulogy.

Burial was in Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

KATHERINE E. HATFIELD, 1909-1990

Katherine E. Hatfield, 81, of Sunset Village of the Ozarks, Waynesville, died September 19, 1990, at Sunset Village. The daughter of William J. D. Nieter and Kathryn Louisa (Wagner) Nieter, she was born August 27, 1909, in New Bremen, OH.

On April 17, 1931, in Yokohama, Japan, she married Charles David Hatfield. He preceded her in death April 19, 1989. The couple lived in Michigan for more than 22 years before moving to Sunset Village in Waynesville.

Survivors include one niece, Judith Bray of Wapakoneta OH; two nephews, John Nieter of Wapakoneta OH and James Nieter of Lima OH; her sister-in-law, Edna Nieter of Wapakoneta OH; and a cousin, Mary Lou Pope, of Big Sur CA.

Memorial Services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 30, in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks with Rev. Wilbur Harbaugh officiating. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Sandra "Sandy" (Elwell) Hatfield 1945-2003

Sandra "Sandy" Hatfield, 57, of Huntsville, died April 4, 2003, at Waynesville, Mo.
She was born July 28, 1945, at Laredo, Texas, daughter of C.D. "Chub" and Gwendolyn Burton Elwell. She was a graduate of Baylor University with a bachelor of science degree, and she held a master of education degree from the University of Arkansas.
Mrs. Hatfield had been a teacher at the Huntsville Public Schools for 26 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, and she was active in the Society at Eureka Springs. She served on the board of directors of the Arkansas Education Association, and was a member of Huntsville Local #4737, American Federation of Teachers. She was a member and past president of the Huntsville Friendship Club and had served on the Huntsville City Council.
She was preceded in death by her father, and by a brother, Guy Mike Elwell.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Kevin L. Hatfield, of the home; and her mother, Gwendolyn Elwell of Huntsville.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 9, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home, with David Fitch and Lucinda Shook officiating. Private interment was in the Alabam Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
