Imogene Irene Sims 1917-1986

Imogene Irene Sims born in Dixon on Oct. 14, 1917 the daughter of Archie and Goldie Akery Slone and passed away in the Fulton Community Hospital in Fulton on Thursday, Set. 11, 1986.  She had attained the age of 68 years.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Sims and unto this union 12 sons and 3 daughters were born.

Mrs. Sims was widowed in March of 1959.  She dedicated her life caring for her children and working to support them.  She was a wonderful mother and she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be terribly missed by all her family and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Dixon Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Burns officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery under the direction of the Long Funeral Home in Dixon.  Doug Hamilton was the organist and serving as her pallbearers were her sons, Roger, Dwight, Dean, Charles, Dan, Larry, Mike, Kenny, Keith and Willis.

Imogene is survived by her children, Roger Sims of Dixon, Norma Harrison of Fulton, Dwight Sims of Dixon, Dean Sims of O’Fallon, Mo., Charles Sims of Kansas City, Dan Sims of Jefferson City, Larry Sims of Jefferson City, Mike Sims of St. Louis, Linda Chandler of Lake Toxaway, North Carolina, Kenny Sims of Rolla, Keith Sims of St. Louis, Willis Sims of Devils Elbow, and Brenda Brown of Fulton, 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sons, Charles Dwight and Jerry Wayne and 1 brother Willis Dean Slone.

Bobby Lewis Pendleton 1932-2010

MR. BOB L. PENDLETON

Bobby Lewis “Bob” Pendleton, of Dixon, was born on October 12, 1932, at Dixon, a son of Bennett Amos and Edna Fay (Slone) Pendleton and departed this life at 7:20 p.m., Tuesday evening, July 20, 2010 in the St. Mary’s Health Center, Jefferson City. Mr. Pendleton had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 77 years, 9 months and 8 days.

Mr. Pendleton was united in marriage on November 24, 1955, at Dixon to Geraldine Denton and to this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his father on September 29, 1969; his mother on October 9, 1979; and one grandson, Seth Allen Pendleton-Hansen on April 10, 2009.

Mr. Pendleton was baptized early in life and was a member of the First Christian Church, Dixon. He was a United States Army veteran; a lifetime member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Crocker; a member of the Dixon Saddle Club and had served as secretary and Treasure for over twenty years. He was a board member of the Diagnostic Center, Rolla; chairman of the board of the Group Home, Crocker and served on the Senate Bill 40 board of Pulaski County. Mr. Pendleton had worked on the Frisco Railroad in the early 1950 and later worked at Fort Leonard Wood in maintenance, retiring in 1993 as well as farming and raising and showing horses.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Pendleton include: his wife, Jerry Pendleton of the home near Dixon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobby, Jr. “Rob” and Dawn Pendleton and Ronnie Pendleton; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Kerry Copeland, all of Dixon; one brother Ben Pendleton, Marshfield; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lula Fabyanic, Lake Ozark and Shirley and Paul Helton, Dixon; six grandchildren, Jody, Curtis, Kaelyn, Shannon, Bobbie and Matthew; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Pendleton at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2010, in the Dixon Chapel of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes with Rev. Jerry Dooley, First Christian Church, Dixon officiating. “Daddy’s Hands”, “Amazing Grace” and Go Rest High On That Mountain” were sung for the funeral service.

Interment, with full military honors, was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Pendleton were Ernie Carlton, Mike Ball, Keith Alexander, Harold Campbell, Steve Jones and Tommy Withers. Honorary Pallbearers were Matt Pendleton, Rick Carlton, Mark Lasserty, Tony Emmons, Richard Hurst and Eric Schwandt. Military honors were provided by the Leismann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the First Christian Church, Dixon with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Dixon.

Willard James Withers 1919-2009

Willard James Withers, of Dixon, was born on November 8, 1919, at Dixon, a son of James Riley and Pearl Evelyn (Slone) Withers, and departed this life at 12:05 A.M., Tuesday, February 24, 2009, in the St. Johns Hospital, Springfield. Mr. Withers had attained the age of 89 years, 3 months and 16 days.

Mr. Withers was united in marriage on July 20, 1941, at Crocker to Miss Beulah Lea Long and to this union four children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 4, 2003; his father on August 23, 1977; his mother on January 4, 1994; three brothers, Louie Dean Withers, Carl Withers and Ralph Withers; and one sister, Opal Amick.

Mr. Withers was a World War II United States Navy veteran, a member of the Santee Community Church, near Dixon and the American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon. He retired from Civil Service as a heavy equipment operator. One of his fondest memories was working in Hawaii helping build back the airstrip after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Withers include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Luther and June Withers, Strafford; Russell and Carlene Withers, Springfield; Randall and Kay Withers, Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Mark Wagganer, Centertown; one brother, Robert “Bob” Withers, Springfield; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, precious memories will long be remembered in the hearts of his dear family and all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Withers at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 27, 2009, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon, with Pastor Dors Wilson, Santee Community Church, Dixon, officiating. Harold Rowden sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and the hymn, “Beulah Land” was played for the service.

Interment with full military honors was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home. Pallbearers for Mr. Withers were Aaron Withers, Kyle Copeland, Toby Withers, Mark Withers, Jeff Withers and Rusty Moles. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Jones, David Wagganer and Don Wilson. The American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon provided graveside honors.
