R.C. Roose, 91, of Dixon, a retired flour and feed mill operator, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Waynesville General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Edna.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Gilbert Chapel at Dixon. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

H. Dale Hooker d. 3 April 2009

H. Dale Hooker, 89, Springfield, formerly of Lebanon, Missouri passed away Friday, April 3, 2009 in his home.

A native of Dixon, Missouri, Dale served in the United States Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Dale's Sporting Goods in Devil's Elbow from 1950 until 1968.

He served on the board of Laclede Electric Cooperative in Lebanon and then became the general manager of the Coop for several years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Lebanon Rotary Club, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He had served on the Lebanon City Council, the Hughes Foundation Board, and as president of the Lebanon Country Club. Early in his life he had been a Deputy Sheriff of Pulaski County.

He was united in marriage to Aileen Parker in 1941, and to this union two children were born. Aileen passed away in 1986. In 1988, he married Rita Y. (Bear) Campbell.

He was also proceeded in death by his parents, Harrison Pryor and Flora Harrison Hooker; and a son H. Dale Hooker, II.

Dale is survived by his wife Rita, of the home; a daughter Anne Williamson, Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-sons, Mark, Jim, Scott, and Greg Campbell; a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in the Holman-Howell Funeral Home of Lebanon, with Rev. Andy Bryan officiating. Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, in the Dixon Cemetery, Dixon, Mo. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday in the funeral home.

A memorial to the Diabetes Association has been established and contributions may be made through Holman-Howe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 28, Lebanon, MO, 65536.

Thomas Zachariah Hensley d. 4 April 1940

Thomas Zachariah Hensley, son of John and Mary Hensley was born near Union in Franklin County, Missouri on December 29, 1846. He passed away at his home in Dixon, Missouri, April 4, 1940, at the age of 93 years 3 months, and 5 days.

His family moved to Pulaski County while he was still a child.

He enlisted in the Union Army September 16, 1864 at the age of 17. He served until June 9, 1865 and was mustered out at Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri.

 He then returned to his home in Pulaski County where May 25, 1872, he was married to Mary Overby. To this union were born 8 children, 6 of whom survive and all reside in California.

He lost his wife through death in April, 1889.

On May 5, 1901 he was united in marriage to La Venia Thomas. To this union were born 4 children, all of whom survive.

He united with the Christian religion early in life.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, 10 children, 19 grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Services from Gilbert's Chapel, Dixon, April 6, in charge of Chris Veasman and the American Legion posts of Dixon and Iberia.

Mr. Hensley was a pioneer of this section and laid to rest in Dixon Cemetery.

Mrs. Jerusha Stevens d. 13 August 1917

Mrs. Jerusha Stevens, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Rolens last Monday morning. She was 80 years old and was sick only a short time. Her daughter Mrs. Sweet was with her during her sickness and her son and wife, of Carlis Nevada, were with her during her last hours. Her pastor Rev. Mahaney conducted the funeral services and her remains were laid to rest in the Dixon cemetery Wednesday afternoon.

Oma Parsons d. 10 August 1917

Oma, the 11 year old daughter of Albert Parsons, died last Friday morning of rheumatism after being confined to her bed for three weeks. Little Oma was a faithful member of the Junior Endeavor and Sunday school and loved by everyone. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Mahaney and her remains were laid to rest in the Dixon Cemetery.

HANCOCK- Services for Burless Lawrence George, 62, Hancock, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Birmingham-Martin Chapel in Dixon with the Rev. Charles L. Pitts officiating. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Mr. George died at 11:43 p.m. Friday in Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital, Columbia, after a long illness.

After 12 years as a lineman for the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Leonard Wood, he retired in 1960. A world War II Army veteran, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4956 in Crocker and a member of Dixon Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Gary, Eldon, and Maurice, Crocker; a daughter, Virginia Berry, Fort Leonard Wood; a brother, Elzie, Waynesville; four sisters, Ilene Hanson and Genevieve Crawford, both of Stockton, Calif., Mrs. Prentiss Urlacher, Antioch, Calif., and Mrs. Evelyn Holt, Waynesville; and two grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday.

James W. Hancock was born March 27, 1861 in Pulaski County, Mo., and passed away at his home in Dixon, Mo., April 10, 1941, being at the time of his death 80 years and 13 days.

On May 15, 1930 he was married to Mrs. Lillie Ray of Rolla, Mo., who survives. He is also survived by two daughters by a former marriage, Zola Costly of Gary, Ind. and Irene Brittan, of St. Louis, Mo., and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one brother, George Hancock of Dixon, Mo., three sisters, Mrs. Lin Briggs of Muskogee, Okla., Mrs. Flora Anderson of Detroit, Mich., and Rosa Bates of Dixon, Mo. He was a member of the Christian Church in Dixon and had been a Mason for 52 years.

Lizzie (Hale) Copeland 1873-1916

Gone Home To Rest

Mrs. Lizzie Copeland, wife of C.R. Copeland was born at Edgar Springs, Mo., March 2, 1873, and died at her home about one mile southwest of Dixon Tuesday, afternoon, March 28th, being 43 years and 26 days old.

She was the oldest daughter of S.R. and Mary Hale and was married to Chas. R. Copeland at Spring Creek Dec. 2, 1891. To this union 5 children were born, 4 of whom are still living: Mrs. Ruth Stewart, Clyde, Lois and Right, and 4 sisters and 1 brother to mourn her departure.

She was sick about 23 days and although her suffering was intense she bore it as well as anyone could. She had been unconscious for some time but when the end was near she became conscious and began calling all of her relatives to her one by one and told them what she wanted them to do and bidding them good bye until her aged father came and he said to her, "Lizzie I would not talk so much as the doctor says there is a chance for you" but she said to him "Oh! Papa, I have so much to tell and such a short time to tell it, I must hurry." He asked her if she was afraid to die and her answer was "Oh! No, I'm just going home to reap my reward. I have labored so long and diligently. It is just over there Papa, can't you see it?" She said "I hate to go and leave you all, especially my little boy, Right, as I always prayed to live to raise him. I am not afraid to leave Clyde for I have so instructed him I know he will follow in my footsteps. Now I want you all to follow in the footsteps of my Saviour so my little son will follow you."

She united with the M.E. Church at Bloodland in 1912 but all her life she had lived as a true christian and was a great church and Sunday School worker as the people of Bloodland and Hooker know. In conclusion she said, "My life has been an open book for anyone to read. I have always help up for that which was good and suppressed the bad. I have my ticket ready and am only waiting for the train to carry me home where my seat is waiting for me and I want you to so live that when the time comes to you, you will also be ready to join me in the family circle around the Throne of God." Her last words were "Oh! Look at the beautiful sun!"

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.E. Mathews, of Newburg, at the home in a very beautiful and impressive manner after which her remains were laid to rest in the Dixon cemetery to await the sound of the trumpet on the Resurrection Morning.

Perlina Jane (Rhea) Houk d, May 28, 1904

Mrs. H.C. Houk, who has been an invalid for several years, died last Saturday morning. Funeral services were held Sunday at the M.E. Church conducted by Rev. January. Mrs. Houk leaves a husband and ten children, nine of whom were present at the funeral to feel her loss.

D.B. Dudley d. March 15, 1903

D.B. Dudley, an old and respected citizen of this place died Sunday. Mr. Dudley had lived in Pulaski county many years and formerly edited a paper at Richland and was twice School commissioner of the county. He was buried Monday at the Dixon cemetery by the Masonic order. He was a charter member of the Dixon Masonic Lodge at its organization at Arlington.

Monte Stephen Doyle 1951-1986

Monte Stephen Doyle was born in Rolla, Missouri on October 15, 1951 the son of James and Violet Copeland Doyle and passed away suddenly on October 2, 1986.  He had attained the age of 34 years.

Monte is survived by daughter Hilary, his parents, James and Violet Doyle, 2 brothers, Bradley and his wife Lisa and Milan, all of Dixon, with other relatives and friends.

He attended the Dixon Schools, worked at Ft. Wood as an electrician while health permitted.  He enjoyed fishing and working with taxidermy, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel on Saturday, October 4, 1986 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ed Pierce officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery.  Serving as his pallbearers were Lonnie, Roger, Tracy, and Buddy

Florence (Lipscomb) Cain 1893-1986

Florence Cain was born in Crocker, Missouri on May 27, 1893 the daughter of John F. and Sophronia Murphy Lipscomb and passed away in the Phelps County Regional Hospital in Rolla on April 6, 1986.  She had attained the age of 92 years.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Hampton Cain on October 11, 1913 and unto this union 2 sons were born.  He preceded her in death on August 3, 1963.

Florence is survived by her 2 sons, Harold and his wife Opal and Donald and his wife Ethel of Granite City, Illinois, 1 brother Joseph Lipscomb of Kansas City, 5 grandchildren, Richard Cain of Highland, Illinois, Karen Campbell of Houston, Texas, Herbert and Mark Cain of Granite City, Illinois and Donna Baker of St. Louis, 5 great-grandchildren, Ricky Cain of Highland, Illinois, Christina and Steve Campbell of Houston, Texas, Robin and Erin Cain of Granite City, Illinois with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, Arthur, Mert, Homer, and Frank and 1 sister Myra Lipscomb.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dixon, garnet Chapter #283 Order of the Eastern Star.  Florence lived in Granite City from 1922 until 1947 and then moved to Dixon.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel on April 9, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Philip Inman officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and serving as her pallbearers were Carl Durtschi, Elmer McKinnon, Paul Beydler, Naith Campbell, Murl Baker, and Walter Dickens.

Freda Mae (Irvin) Shelden 1935-1986

Freda Mae Shelden was born in Dixon on September 9, 1935, the daughter of Thomas and Ellen Berry Irvin and passed away in the Boone County Hospital in Columbia on Monday, December 22, 1986.  She had attained the age of 51 years.

She is survived by her husband Paul, of the home in Fulton, 1 son Rick Johns of Rolla, her mother, Ella Irvin of Fulton, her sister Melba Lick of Dixon, 3 grandchildren, Adam, Travis, and Lindsay Johns with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her father and 2 brothers, Carl and Donnie.

Freda was a member of the First Christian Church in Fulton.  She was a self-employed beauty operator and most recently the manager of radio KFAL in Fulton.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel in Dixon on Wednesday, December 24, 1986, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Raymond McCallister from the Christian Church in Fulton officiating.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and soloist was Hazel Schierbaum who sang “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden”.  Serving as her pallbearers were Bud and Danny Shelden, Bobby Foster, Larry Irvin, Butch Lick, and Doyle Giesler.

Emma Alvira (Dickens) Perkins 1902-1985

Emma Alvira Perkins was born in Maries County, Missouri on July 29, 1902 the daughter of Charles and Hattie Scott Dickens and passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 28, 1985.  She had attained the age of 83 years.

She was united in marriage to Bryan Perkins and unto this union 2 sons and 2 daughters were born.  Bryan preceded her on February 14, 1985.

Emma is survived by her 2 sons, Donald of Dixon and Robert of Devine, Texas; 2 daughters, Ethel Merideth of Leavenworth, Kansas and Audrey Beck of Omaha, Nebraska; 1 brother Garrett Dickens of Cuba, 1 sister Jessie Lindner of Warrenton; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 grandson Mark, 6 brothers, Floyd, Lonnie, Earl, Clyde, Russell and Roy, and 3 sisters, Bertha Hughes, Dollie Dickens and 1 infant.

She was a member of the Dixon Church of Christ approximately 20 years, having been baptized at age 21 in the First Christian Church.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel on Tuesday, December 31, 1985 at 2:00 p.m. with Charles Pitts officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery.  Church of Christ Choir sang Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and The Old Rugged Cross.  Serving as her pallbearers were Herbert and Dean Perkins, Cheryl Tyberendt, Linda Wallingford, Kay Howarter, Phyllis Fischer and Gary Ramsey and Ronald Beck.

Sylvia Ann (Ross) Kuhns 1908-1986

Sylvia Ann Kuhns was born in Pulaski County, Missouri on April 19, 1908 the daughter of Joseph and Oda Delancey Ross and passed away in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla on April 20, 1986.  She had attained the age of 78 years and 1 day.

She was united in marriage to Adrain Kuhns on April 6, 1931 in Vienna and unto this union 2 sons and 3 daughters were born.

Sylvia is survived by her 2 sons, Stanley of Avon Park, Florida and Dewey of Cedar Hill, Missouri; 3 daughters, Audrey Humphrey of Dixon, Stella Dzieglewicz of Wildwood, Illinois and Jessie Decker of Dixon; 4 sisters, Sue Kuhns and Inez Page of Dixon, Bertha Kelley of Columbia and Cora Enloe of Wichita Falls, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Adrain on Jan. 11, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

She was a member of the High Point Church of God, loved quilting, sewing, and working in her garden.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. James Bailey officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and Soloist was Charlie Beltz.  Serving as her pallbearers were Keith Braun, John Bertuso, Bill Borrowes, Rodger Osborne, Maurice Wolfert, and Edward Humphrey.  Honorary pallbearers were Loren Ross and Russell Jones.

Lloyd James Evans 1904-1986

Lloyd James Evans was born at Hayden, Missouri on May 27, 1904, the son of James Henry and Emma Blackwell Evans and passed away on Monday, Oct. 27, 1986 in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla.  He had attained the age of 82 years.

He was united in marriage to Blanche Slone on Nov. 6, 1926 and unto this union 2 sons and 2 daughters were born.

Lloyd was a member of the First Christian Church here in Dixon for 46 years, having served as deacon for a number of years.  He was a member of the Arlington Lodge No. 346 in which he served as Tiler for 28 years, and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 283.  Lloyd served in the Army Air Corps from Feb. 22, 1922 to Feb. 21, 1925 as a plane mechanic which he enjoyed very much.  He loved to fish and hunt.  Before he retired he was a custodian for the Dixon School systems.  He worked at Chevrolet Motor Co. in St. Louis for 18 years as a mechanic.

Funeral Services were held in the Long Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Martin officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon cemetery.  Organist was Carman Hauck.  Serving as his pallbearers were: Harold Campbell, Frank Fabyanic, Troy Porter, Al Quick, Andy George, and Charles Sease.  Honorary pallbearers were: Walter Dickens, Archie Whitaker, Terry E. Clark, Bob Pendleton and Arthur Stuart.

Masonic services were given at the Long Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

He is survived by his wife Blanche of the home, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie Ray and Sue of Dixon, Donald Gene and Carol of Bakersfield, California, 1 daughter Ruth Ann DeLara of Joliet, Illinois, 2 sisters, Opal Bowman of St. Louis and Lillian Riddle of Pharr, Texas, 7 grandchildren, Bruce Evans, Pam Beltz, Donna Irvin, Sherree Fateley, and Danny, Mike, and Bradley DeLara and 5 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 daughter Dorothy Louise Evans.

Riley Paul Campbell 1909-1986

Riley Paul Campbell was born in Dixon, Mo., on Oct. 9, 1909 the son of James Riley and Sarah Adaline Davis Campbell and passed away in the Phelps County Regional Health Center in Rolla on Thursday, Sept. 11, 1986.  He had attained the age of 76 years.

He was united in marriage to Hazel McDowell on December 12, 1936 and unto this union 1 daughter and 3 sons were born.  She preceded him on Nov. 27, 1976.

Riley was a member of the Christian Church and a past deacon and elder.  He worked at Ft. Leonard Wood as a furniture repairman from March 26, 1951 until March 26, 1977.  He was a member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 346 and was a past master and the Garnet Chapter No. 283 Order of the Eastern Star being a past patron several times.  He served in World War II as a cook, was an auctioneer clerk in this area for 45 years, was the President of the Dixon Khoury League for several years and worked with teams for 20 years.  He loved to hunt and fish and was a skilled wood craftsman and loved to make fiddles.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Withers and Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery.  Organist was Carlene McMillian and serving as his pallbearers were Jim and Claude Campbell, Elroy McMillian, George Harsch, Randy Pendleton and Wilbur Warman.  Honorary pallbearers were Warden Russell, Everett Newberry, Bruce Richey, Paris Claiborn, Walter Dickens and Louie Hancock.  Masonic Services were held in the Long Chapel on Sat. evening at 7:30 p.m..

He is survived by his daughter Louise Juergens of Dixon, 3 sons, and daughters-in-law, Charles and Debby of DeSoto, Harold and Barbara and Greg and Helen of Dixon, 2 sisters, Grace Jennings of Dixon and Oma Wooster of Rolla, 1 brother Frank Campbell of Dixon, 8 grandchildren, Jason, Anthony, Bradley, and Andy Campbell, Joy, Pam, and Danny Juergens and Julie Pendleton and 4 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Curtis, Kelly and Brandon Pendleton.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, Joe and Archie and 1 son-in-law William Juergens.

James Thurman Deardeuff 1903-1986

James Thurman Deardeuff was born in Miller County, Missouri on November 29, 1903 the son of Simon East and Ida Prater Deardeuff and passed away in his home in Taos on Oct. 10, 1986.  He had attained the age of 82 years.

He was united in marriage to Ina Morrison on April 30, 1927 and to this union 1 son and 3 daughters were born.  She preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1984.

He served a term as road judge in Maries County, enjoyed working in the Fairview Community Center and the Fairview Church.  In later years he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dixon.

Funeral Services were held in the Long Chapel in Dixon on Monday, Oct. 13, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Withers officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long Funeral Home of Dixon.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and Soloist was Sherry Hathaway who sang Living by Faith and Beyond the Sunset.  Serving as his pallbearers were: Jerald Burns, Russell and Dale Wilson, Wayne and David Deardeuff, Jimmy Sherell and Keith Darden.

Thurman is survived by his son James Harlin Deardeuff and his wife Mary of Jefferson City; 3 daughters, Pearl and her husband Gene Burns of Dixon, Dorothy and her husband Jim Darden of Houston, Texasand Hazel and her husband Gene Wilson of Meta; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Clark Deardeuff of Mason City, Iowa and Tom Deardeuff of Doolittle and 2 sisters, Ruby West of Devils Elbow, and Mary Summa of McMinnville, Tennessee with other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, John, Ernest and Emmett and 2 sisters, Jenny Setser and Ellen Roberson.

Mae Hazel (Veasman) Prewett 1908-1986

Mae Hazel Prewett, of Dixon, was born on February 19, 1908, at Dixon, a daughter of William and Mary Wilken Veasman, and departed this life at 4:30 a.m., on Tuesday morning, March 11, 1986, in the Pulaski County Memorial Hospital, Waynesville, after suffering an apparent heart attack.  Mrs. Prewett had attained the age of 78 years and 22 days.  Mrs. Prewett was a ,e,mer of the First Christian Church, Dixon, and was a housewife and homemaker for all her working life.  Fond memories of Mrs. Prewett will long be remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Prewett was united in marriage on October 4, 1926, at St. Louis, to Chester Ruben Prewett, and to this union, one daughter was born.  Mr. Prewett preceded his wife in death on November 30, 1971.  Others preceding Mrs. Prewett in death include: Her father on April 27, 1958; her mother on May 31, 1976; and one sister, Virginia.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Prewett at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday morning, March 13, 1986 in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Rev. Kevin Martin, First Christian Church, Dixon, officiating.  Mrs. Hazel Schierbaum sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer” for the funeral service and was accompanied by Mrs. Carmen Hauck.

Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Prewett were Eugene Rollins, Carl Durtschi, Bill Harding, Franklin Prewett, Clifford Fuller and Jake Veasman.  Honorary Pallbearers were Eddie Palmer, Terry Clark, Charles McEntee, Warden Russell and Pryor Ray Prewett.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Prewett include: One daughter and son-in-law, Daisye and Bennett Howell, Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Charles Veasman, Dixon; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
