John McKinnon d. 20 February 1917

Uncle John McKinnon, who lived about 3 miles west of here (Dixon) on the farm he homesteaded when he was young, took sick with pneumonia on Feb. 15th and died Feb. 20th and his remains were laid to rest in Seaton Cemetery by the Dixon G.A.R. of which he was a charter member. Uncle John joined the Union Army and served thru the Civil War. He was married to Julia Null and to this union was born 3 boys and 3 girls. Mrs. McKinnon died about a year ago. This family never moved from their old homestead. Uncle John was one of our very best citizens, was highly respected by all who knew him and will be sadly missed in this community.

Virginia (Weeks) Martin 1909-1986

Virginia Martin was born in Dixon on June 7, 1909 the daughter of L.R. and Lucy Jane Morrow Weeks and passed away in the Cox Medical Center in Springfield on February 28, 1986.  She had attained the age of 76 years.

She was united in marriage to Charley Martin on August 17, 1940.

Virginia is survived by two sisters, Lavern Weeks and Alpha Weeks of Springfield, 4 step sons, Raymond Martin of Arizona, Russell Martin and Hershel martin of Dixon and Keith Martin of Camdenton, 2 nieces, Jessie Lam and Mary Weeks, and several step-grandchildren with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers Jesse and Earl Weeks.

She enjoyed her flowers and sewing and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon on Monday, March 3, 1986 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Martin officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and serving as her pallbearers were Hershel, Russell, and Keith Martin, Paul Miller, Dorman Baker, and Vic Bauer.

Lesta Mae (Newberry) Null 1903-1986

Lesta Mae Null was born in Dixon, Missouri on September 22, 1903 the daughter of Andy and Minnie Prewett Newberry and passed away November 2, 1986.  She had attained the age of 83.

She was united in marriage to Claude Null on September 1, 1924 and unto this union 2 sons were born.

She accepted Christ as her personal saviour and was baptized in the Sheppard Baptist Church.  She and her husband lived in St. Louis for 35 years and moved to Dixon when retired.  She enjoyed her gardening, flowers, and quiltin.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1986 with Rev. Billy Claiborn officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and Solist was Hazel Schierbaum.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Null were: Michael Null, Carl Null, Edward Eirvin, Charles McSorley, Charles Brittain and Gary Connell.

Lesta is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Nora and Mike and Myrtle both of St. Louis, 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Everett and Ernest of Dixon and Claude of St. Louis, 1 sister Louise McKnolly of St. Louis with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers, Herbert and an infant.

Imogene Irene Sims 1917-1986

Imogene Irene Sims born in Dixon on Oct. 14, 1917 the daughter of Archie and Goldie Akery Slone and passed away in the Fulton Community Hospital in Fulton on Thursday, Set. 11, 1986.  She had attained the age of 68 years.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Sims and unto this union 12 sons and 3 daughters were born.

Mrs. Sims was widowed in March of 1959.  She dedicated her life caring for her children and working to support them.  She was a wonderful mother and she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be terribly missed by all her family and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Dixon Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Burns officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery under the direction of the Long Funeral Home in Dixon.  Doug Hamilton was the organist and serving as her pallbearers were her sons, Roger, Dwight, Dean, Charles, Dan, Larry, Mike, Kenny, Keith and Willis.

Imogene is survived by her children, Roger Sims of Dixon, Norma Harrison of Fulton, Dwight Sims of Dixon, Dean Sims of O’Fallon, Mo., Charles Sims of Kansas City, Dan Sims of Jefferson City, Larry Sims of Jefferson City, Mike Sims of St. Louis, Linda Chandler of Lake Toxaway, North Carolina, Kenny Sims of Rolla, Keith Sims of St. Louis, Willis Sims of Devils Elbow, and Brenda Brown of Fulton, 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sons, Charles Dwight and Jerry Wayne and 1 brother Willis Dean Slone.

Daisy Amalia (Bormet) Manes 1891-1985

Daisy Amalia Manes was born in Manly,Iowa on October 22, 1891 the daughter of George and Amalia Asbrand Bormet and passed away on October 3, 1985 after a long illness in the Heritage Park Nursing Home in Rolla having attained the age of 93 years, 11 months and 19 days.

She and her parents moved to a farm west of Dixon in 1907 and she was married on November 17, 1938 to William Enos Manes who preceded her in death on June 26, 1970.

She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour at an early age and was a member of the First Christian Church of Dixon.

She leaves the following relatives to mourn her passing, one niece, one nephew, 3 grand-nieces, 2 grand-nephews all from California, a devoted cousin, Alma and Jerry Daugherty of Mokena, Illinois, 2 cousins, Otto Bormet of New Lenox, Illinois and Edwin Bormet of Lockport, Illinois, a step-daughter Allean Breeze martin and 4 step grandchildren from Texas.

Funeral services were held in the Long Gilbert Chapel on Sunday October 6, 1985 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Martin from the Christian Church officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery.  Organist was Kathy Brandt and her escorts were Howard Goodman, Murl and Leo Baker, Vasca Cross, Paul Beydler and Ronnie Clark. 

Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Beal) Odom 1915-1986

Sarah Elizabeth Odom, better known to everyone as “Lizzie” was born in Miller County, Missouri on February 17, 1915 the daughter of George and Mary Rook Beal and passed away in the Charles E. Still Hospital in Jefferson City on Sunday, June 22, 1986.  She had attained the age of 71 years.

She was united in marriage to Sidney Odom on December 4, 1937 and unto this union 2 sons were born.  He preceded her in death on July 21. 1971.

Lizzie is survived by her 2 sons and daughter in laws, Dorse and Patricia Odom of Rogersville and David and Lori Odom of Vienna, 1 grandson Allen of Rogersville and 1 granddaughter Melinda of Vienna, 4 sisters, Clara Helton, Vivian Forbis andd Bessie Rowden of Iberia and Ella Reischling of Dixon, 7 brothers, Edgar, Richard, Lloyd and Otto Beal of Dixon, Wilmer Beal of East St. Louis, Leonard Beal and Bennie Beal of El Dorado, Kansas with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 brothers, Charles and Elvie.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon on Wednesday, June 25, 1986 at 11:00 a.m. with Carrell Day officiating.  Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery.  Serving as her pallbearers were Larry Bassett, Tommy, Mike, and Norman Nichols, Elwood Beal, Troy Stokes and J.D. Fritchey.

James Earl Null 1912-1994

James Earl Null, 81, of Vandalia, MO died Thursday evening at the Tri-County Nursing Center, Vandalia.

Mr. Null was born in Dixon, MO on July 13, 1912 to Benjamin Curtis and Neoma (Howser) Null.  On November 20, 1937 in Vienna, MO, he was wed to Eula Marthell Cusick, who survives in Vandalia.  Other survivors include five sons: Curt Null of Knoxville, IA, Virgil Null of Davenport, IA, Jim Null of Farber, MO, and Vernon and Joe Null both of Vandalia; five daughters: Ruby Dean Chafen of Kansas City, KS, Neoma Beal of Rush Hill, MO, Violet Wells of Knoxville, IA, Darlene Witt of St. Charles, MO, and Daffney Hood of Columbia, MO; 96 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Jewell Cross, Hazel Allen and Pauline Kaffiele.

Mr. Null was a longtime resident of the Vandalia area, where he engaged in farming and was also employed for many years as a custodian for the Van-Far School District.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 18, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. at the Holt Funeral Home, Vandalia, MO.  Graveside services were held Monday at the Seaton Cemetery, Dixon, MO.

*James Earl Null was transported to his final resting place at Seaton Cemetery by a matched mule team and wagon.

Bobby Lee Benefiel 1940-2012

Bobby Lee Benefiel, of St. Robert, was born on November 25, 1940, at Noel, Missouri, a son of Clarence and Ruby Alice (Lukens) Benefiel and departed this life on Friday, March 16, 2012 in the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Benefiel had attained the age of 71 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Mr. Benefiel was united in marriage on July 2, 1988, at Dixon to Rosalie Aileen Best.

 He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; his step-father, Vertle Nixon and one sister, Clarice Jean Roe.

Mr. Benefiel had attended the First Assembly of God Church, Dixon and was a retired truck driver. He loved going to car shows, fishing and gardening.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Benefiel include: his wife, Rosalie Benefiel, St. Robert; his mother, Ruby Nixon, Lockwood; one son, Wally Warner, Sun Rise Beach; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shawnda and Brian Purdy, Joplin; Sonya and James McClendon, Dixon and Shanna Wells, Rolla; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Pauline Benefiel and Bill and Chris Benefiel, all of Carthage; one sister, Norma West, state of Missouri; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Benefiel at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 19, 2012, in the First Assembly of God Church, Dixon with Pastor Larry Albertson officiating. Rick Hargrove sang “Blessed Assurance” and Tom Hargrove sang “Beulah Land” for the funeral service and a favorite selection of “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You” was played for the service.

Interment was in the Seaton Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Benefiel were Frank Robbins, Glen Stines, Chuck Edwards, Randy Wagoner, Gene Gilbert and Jim Bales.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gideon Memorial Bibles with envelopes available at the church or the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home, Dixon.

Kenneth Joe Warnol 1930-2012

Kenneth Joe Warnol of Dixon passed away January 6, 2012 at the age of 81 years.

Kenneth was born August 9, 1930 in Dixon, Missouri the son of Joseph Franklin and Rose Mae Warnol.

Kenneth loved the outdoors and fishing, he enjoyed working and helping people. He was a Christian and baptized at the Tower Grove Baptist Church at the age of 5 years and attended the Santee Church for over forty years.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Norma, Pauline, Helen. Kenneth is survived by his wife Maridel of Dixon, 2 daughters: Kay Watkins and husband Ben of Michigan, Gay Warnol of Dixon, 2 sons: Kenneth Dee Warnol and wife Patty of Dixon, Jim Warnol and wife Debra of Iberia. 8 grandchildren: Ryan, Spencer, Amy, Trevor, Jessica, Holly, Harley, Alesia, Burgundy, and numerous great - great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 5pm-8pm at the Santee Community Church. The funeral service will be January 11, 2012 at 11:00am at the Santee Community Church in Dixon, Missouri.

Interment will be at the Seaton Cemetery in Dixon, MO.

Emmitt Dale Gilbert 1962-2012

Emmitt “Dale” Gilbert, of Dixon, was born on November 11, 1962, at Rolla, a son of Emmitt George and Jessie Lea (Fritchey) Gilbert and departed this life at 8:58 p.m., Sunday, April 8, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Dale had attained the age of 49 years, 4 months and 27 days.

Dale was preceded in death by his father on July 31, 1992 and his mother on December 29, 2000.

Dale had worked as a maintenance supervisor for Ehrhardt Properties, St. Robert for the past seven years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, slow pitch softball, but above all loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to mourn the passing of Dale include: one son, Tyler Dale Gilbert, Dixon; two daughters, Sarah Lynn Gilbert-Maldonado, Dixon and Katie Lea Gilbert, Rocky Mount; two brothers, George “Paul” Gilbert and Richard “Rick” Burton Gilbert, both of Dixon; one sister, Emmogene “Jeannie” Marie Shattuck, Dixon; three grandchildren, Breison Leavi, Bryndol Emmitt and Chanleigh Del Gilbert; Uncles; Aunts; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Dale were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, in the First Assembly of God Church, Dixon with Bro. Richard Sinden and Pastor Larry Albertson, First Assembly of God, Dixon officiating. Three favorite selections, “Tattoos On This Town”, “Daddy’s Hands” and “Jealous of The Angels” were played for the service.

Interment was in the Seaton Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Dale were Emmitt Henson, Richard Gilbert, Nathan Gilbert, Ryan Jones, Casey Jones, Eddie Fritchey, Chris Thompson and Jeff Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Dale’s three grandchildren, Breison, Bryndol and Chanleigh.

DOROTHY DAISY GOODMAN, 1910-1990

Dorothy Daisy Goodman, 80, died Friday, June 29, 1990, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. She was born in Oswego, NY; on Feb. 4, 1910, the daughter of Paul Arnold and Anna Belle Stahl Brown.

She married Eugene Goodman on Jan 31, 1932. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1989. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Seaton of Meta and Norma and her husband Donald Robertson of Dixon; her two sons, Warren and Robert of Hancock; three grandchildren, Deloris Farge and Dottie and Les Robertson; two great-grandchildren, Lucinda and Justin Farge; her sister, Roberta Funkhouser of Jeffersontown, KY; and her brother, Lewis Brown, of Massillon, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Paul and Edward Brown, and her son-in-law, Walter Seaton.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon on Monday, July 2, 1990, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jack Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery. Serving as her pallbearers were Les Robertson, Ed Farge, Jared Hale, Bill Cross, Roland Goodman, and Johnny Wagner. Music was provided by Thom and Sherry Hathaway.

Lester Walter Best 1922-2010

Lester Walter Best, of Dixon, was born on March 17, 1922 at Dixon, the only son of Walter Freeman and Amanda (Boulware) Best and departed this life at 9:50 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2010, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. Mr. Best had attained the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 13 days.

Mr. Best was united in marriage on February 14, 1946, at Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Edith Maxine Hamilton and to this union four children were born. His parents and five sisters, Juanita Best, Thelma Baker, Pearl Moore, Mildred Brown, and Dorothea Vaughn, preceded him in death.

Mr. Best was a veteran of the United States Air Force; a member of the Hancock Christian Church and the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon. He had worked as a carpenter, being owner and operator of Best Cabinet Shop in Dixon for many years. He enjoyed singing gospel music, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and bingo.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Best include: his wife, Maxine Best, of the home, Dixon; two sons, Richard Best, Dixon, and David Best, Florissant; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rosalie and Bob Benefiel, St. Robert, and Anna Wells, Edmund, Oklahoma; one sister, Pauline Edwards, Dixon; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Best at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010 in the Hancock Christian Church with Pastor Gary Day officiating. “Beulah Land” and “I’ve Got a Mansion Just Over the Hilltop” was sung by Jimmy Moore for the funeral service.

Interment with full military honors was in the Seaton Cemetery, near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mr. Best were Don Baker, Rodney Baker, Beryl Baker, DeWayne Brown, Chuck Edwards, and Clint Moore. Military Honors were provided by members of the Liesmann-Roberts American Legion Post No. 298, Dixon.

Dail Wilkie Alexander, JR 1955-2010

DAIL W. ALEXANDER, JR.

Dail Wilkie Alexander, Jr., of Linn, formerly of Dixon, was born on March 3, 1955 at Morocco, Africa, a son of Dail Wilkie, Sr. and Thelma Ellen Zilpha (Tyrrell) Alexander and departed this life at 7:06 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2010, in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood. Dail had attained the age of 55 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Dail was united in marriage on February 21, 2001, at Linn to Shelley Marie Sterman. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Dail Alexander on August 26, 1974; his father on January 18, 2007 and one brother, Marcus Alexander on March 22, 2006.

Dail attended the Assembly of God Church, Linn and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Jefferson City. He had worked as a supervisor for Missouri Department of Transportation, District 5 Bridge crew, retiring in April 2008. He loved collecting old cars, being on the computer and spending time with his wife, son, daughters and family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Dail include: his wife Shelley Alexander, of the home in Linn; his mother, Thelma Alexander, Dixon; one son and daughter-in-law, Dail W., III and Lori Alexander, New Bloomfield; two daughters and one son-in-law, Brandy Michelle and Shawn Martin, Holt Summit and Serena Nichole Alexander, Linn; one brother, Lester Alexander, Holt Summit; one sister, Alexis Mitchell, Richland; three grandchildren, Jalen Martin, Katie Martin and Breanna Alexander; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Dail at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in the Dixon Chapel of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Jacobson, Eureka Baptist Church, Richland officiating. Three favorite musical selections were played for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Seaton Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Dail were Dail Alexander, III, Tommy Rackers, Mike Watson, Mike Kiso, Joe Britton and Kevin Shepherd.

Pierce “Dutch” Cross 1934-2009

Pierce “Dutch” Cross, 74, of Dixon, died Friday, November 20, 2009, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla.
 
Born April 24, 1934, in Miller County a son of William Sherman and Jewel Lorraine (Null) Cross.

Married May 2, 1953 at Dixon to Betty Carroll.

Survivors: his wife, Betty Cross, Dixon, 2 sons, Dennis Cross and Marty Cross, both of Dixon, 1 daughter, Vicki Palmer, Dixon, 5 brothers, William Cross, Jr., and Bob Cross, both of Dixon; Benny Cross, Centralia; Frank Cross, state of Michigan and Raymond Cross, Doolittle, 2 sisters, Bonnie Ferry, state of California and Sharon Kleffner, Brinktown, 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

Karen Sue (Davis) Starr 1942-2010

Karen Sue Starr, of Crocker, was born on July 8, 1942, in Hancock a daughter of Clark Thomas “Bud” and Minnie Effie (Malone) Davis and departed this life at 12:13 a.m., Monday, January 25, 2010, in the St. John’s Regional Health Center, Springfield. Mrs. Starr had attained the age of 67 years, 6 months and 17 days.
 
Mrs. Starr was united in marriage on July 17, 1982 to John Kenneth Starr who preceded her in death on December 4, 1999. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Victor Johnson in December 1970.
 
Mrs. Starr was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed fishing, being outside and with her family.
 
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Starr include: two sons, Raymond Starr, Lebanon and Helmut Starr, St. Louis; one daughter, Jamie Starr, Waynesville; two brothers, C.T. Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Starr at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 30, 2010, in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Dixon with Rev. Steve Davis, pastor of God’s House, Jefferson City, officiating. Ray Campbell sung “He Will” and “Amazing Grace” for the service and was accompanied by guitarist, Jim Williams.
 
Interment will be held at a later date in the Seaton Cemetery, near Dixon.

James “Jim” Wesley Kent 1943-2009

James “Jim” Wesley Kent, of Lebanon, formerly of Dixon, was born on October 19, 1943, at Port Jervis, New York, a son of Charles Edward and Anna Bell (Kalin) Kent, and departed this life at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2009, in the Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach. Mr. Kent had attained the age of 66 years and 17 days.

Mr. Kent was united in marriage on February 11, 1973 at Fort Leonard Wood, to Dorothy Faye Nichols. He was preceded in death by his father in 1978; his mother in 1992; one daughter, Karen Fritchey on October 14, 2009; and one brother, Bill Charles Kent.

Mr. Kent was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon, the American Legion, in Florida and the North American Hunting Association. He loved to fish, hunt and woodworking. He had worked for Inca Care and later for Briggs and Stratton, Rolla.

On January 17, 1967, at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Mr. Kent entered into active federal service in the United States Army and served until February 2, 1987, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, having attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his military career, Mr. Kent served as a mechanic, instructor and maintenance supervisor, serving in Germany as well as Viet Nam. He was awarded and entitled to wear the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Non Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon; Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters; 6 Army Good Conduct Medals; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon; Mechanic Badge and the Sharpshooter Qualification Badge M16. A man of excellent character, his “Honorable Discharge” is a testimonial of honest and faithful service to his country.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Kent include: his wife, Dorothy Kent, Lebanon; one son, Charles Glasscock, Dixon; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patty Bilitzke, Hayesville, North Carolina and Linda and Brad Matherly, Marshfield; one brother, Edward Charles Kent, state of New York; two sisters, Betty Hewitt and Margaret Leonard, both of the state of New York; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Kent at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.

Interment with full military honors will be in the Seaton Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.

Memorials are suggested by the family to the Seaton Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund with envelopes available at the office of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.

Seaton Cemetery is located in Pulaski County, MO., north of Dixon on Highway 133, to Crest Road, on Carney Road.

Seaton Cemetery is a large church cemetery. Local legend claims that Martha Helms Seaton was the first person buried here, in 1855, and that she was carried to her burial in a two wheel cart. There are no dates on her tombstone that was donated by her friends. However, there is a dated stone for Izabell Ward that lists her date of death as June 1854. James Monroe Duncan, who died circa 1900, rested in Hancock Cemetery for 32 years, before being reburied in Seaton Cemetery next to his wife, Mary Francis Duncan, shortly after her death September 1932.

Don M. Anderson 1925-1982

Don M. Anderson was born in Dixon, Missouri on February 7, 1925 the son of Athol and Marjorie Haley Anderson and passed away in the Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri on Sunday morning, July 25, 1982. He had attained the age of 57 years.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, July 27, 1982 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Clarence Smith and Rev. Phillip Inman officiating, under direction of Long-Gilbert Chapel of Dixon.

He was united in marriage in 1948 to Mary Cochran and of this union 2 daughters and 1 son were born.

Don served in the Air Force during World War II. He graduated from SMS in Springfield in 1949. He then went to the State of Kansas to farm. He then was an employee in the Fort Wood personnel office. He was a charter member of the Dixon Optimist Club, active in the Khoury League and Dixon Youth Recreation Association. He served on the Dixon School Board and served for the last 25 years as Postmaster of the Dixon Post Office. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his Mother, Mrs. Marjorie Anderson of the Lebanon Care Center in Lebanon, Missouri, 2 daughters and son-in-laws, Becky and Stanley Martin of Dixon, and Penny and Mark Kirk of Fort Leonard Wood, 1 son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie Anderson of Dixon, 1 brother Bill Anderson of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, 5 grandchildren, Travis and Tera Martin, Eric and David Kirk, and Lucas Anderson, with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his Father Athol on January 2, 1974 and 1 infant sister. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joshua "Josh" Blythe d. July 21, 2009

Josh Blythe, 16, of Dixon, died July 21, 2009, in the St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

James Wayne "Jim" Smith 1941-2009

James Wayne Smith, of Jefferson City, was born on February 22, 1941, in St. Louis, a son of Charles Richard and Dorothy Lee (Kerley) Smith, and departed this life at 2:00 a.m., Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his residence in Jefferson City. Jim had attained the age of 68 years and 23 days.

Jim was united in marriage on April 1, 1964, in Oakland, California to Sharon Diane Bain. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1970, Jim graduated fro Dixon High School in 1960. Her served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ranger. He had worked for the United Telephone Company and America Telephone and Telegraph Company. Jim retired in July 2003 from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop F Communication Division in Jefferson City after thirty-three years of service.

Jim enjoyed photography, art and working with youth groups. He was both a 4-H leader and a scoutmaster for Troop 10, Jefferson City. He was a member of the Jefferson City Art Club and a founder of the Jefferson City Photography Club in 1985.

Those left to mourn the passing of Jim include: his wife Mrs. Sharon Smith, Jefferson City; three children and their spouses, Ernest W. Smith and Christina Hortsman, Jenks, Oklahoma; Jason R. Smith and Katey Carter, Holts Summit; Robert Winkelman and Jennifer C. Smith, Tebbetts; grandchildren, Megan, Nathan, Danny , David, Matthew and Beth Smith; Christina and Cassy Smith and Daniel Scurlock; Lucas, Tanner, Skyler and Cori Winkelman; one brother, Paul H. Smith, Dixon; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary E. Askins, Madison Heights, Michigan; Shirley and David Sharp, Rolla; and many other relatives and friends.

Private graveside services were conducted for Jim on Monday, March 16, 2009, in the Seaton Cemetery, near Dixon, under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.
