Funeral services for Joyce Elaine Carroll, 3, who suffocated in an abandoned ice box at Waynesville, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the Waynesville Baptist Church. The Rev. Cleveland Horne will officiate. Burial will be in Needmore Cemetery near Waynesville under direction of Hedges.

Survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Richard Carroll, of Waynesville; a brother, James Richard and sister, Mary Mragaret, of the home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Brady Feltner, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Silas Hamilton, Waynesville, and the paternal grandfather, Jack Carroll, Nevada.

Waynesville woman killed in Sunday night Highway 17 hit-and-run crash

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (Feb. 1, 2010) — Local police and state troopers are hunting for the driver who struck and killed a Waynesville woman late Sunday night. According to Waynesville Police Chief Robert Carter, Rhonda West, 51, was struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle while walking on North Highway 17. The crash was reported at 10:35 p.m., near Rice’s Cleaners near the north end of the city, about the same time as a burglary in progress outside the city limits. Pulaski County deputies asked for a backup response from Waynesville police, but that didn’t happen due to the report of a pedestrian crash. Carter said West was transported to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Investigation is ongoing by Waynesville police and state troopers. Carter said anyone with additional information should contact Lt. Gary Brankel of the city police department.

Everald Rose 1922-2009

Everald Rose, of rural Dixon, was born on August 4, 1922, in Pulaski County, a son of Milam and Margaret Ellen (Miller) Rose, and departed this life at 8:56 A.M., on Sunday, June 28, 2009, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, following a brief illness. He had attained the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 24 days.

Mr. Rose was united in marriage on February 10, 1944, at St. Louis, to the former Miss Betty May VanMeter, and to this union, seven children were born. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen Sue Rose on October 30, 1951; his father in 1971; his mother in 1959; two brothers, Andrew Rose in 1970; and Pearl Rose on March 27, 1997; five sisters, Gladys Page in 2006; Della Jane Rose in 1934; Ruth Rose in 1934; Wanda Williams on March 2, 2008; and Dorothy Williams in 2004.

He was a member of the Gasconade Baptist Church near Dixon and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Personal Saviour and followed his Lord in baptism early in life. In earlier years, he had been employed by Emerson Electric Company, St. Louis. Mr. Rose was a construction worker during the building of Fort Leonard Wood in 1938 and 1939. In 1963, he went to work for Pulaski County as a Road Grader Operator and worked in that position for 25 years until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Rose was also a life long farmer in Pulaski County.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Rose include: his wife, Betty Rose, of the home near Dixon; three sons and daughters-in-law, J.R. and Kay Rose, St. James; Ralph and Mila Rose, Green Castle; and Roger and Ellen Rose, Dixon; three daughters and one son-in-law, Gloria Bryant, Bruce, Mississippi; Frances Johnson, Waynesville; and Susie and Gary Davis, Dixon; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Marvin and Loretta Rose, Dixon; and John Rose, Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Helen Berquist, Saratoga, California; and Wilma Keeth, Paradise, California; sixteen grandchildren; Tonya Rose, Mary Sue Ray, Betty Jo Rose, Angie Lackin, Andie Ridenhour, Brian Rose, Cheryl Lumbard, Ryan Rose, Betty Jean Bryant, Tim Johnson, Kevin Davis, Jamie Davis, Michael Davis, Joey Davis, Danny Davis, and Anthony Rose; two step-grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Rose were conducted at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Rev. Timothy Blackwell, First Pentecostal Church, Vichy, officiating. Three musical selections, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Candle In the Wind”, and We’ll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again”, were played for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Gasconade Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mr. Rose were Tim Johnson, Brian Rose, Kevin Davis, Jamie Davis, Michael Davis, Joey Davis, Danny Davis, Anthony Rose and Ed Jenelowicz.

Gasconade Cemetery is located in Pulaski County, MO, northeast of Waynesville and southwest of Dixon, Missouri, near the end of Y Highway, at 16349 Holtsman Road, close to Riddle Bridge. With it’s proximity to the Gasconade River, it is possible that this church cemetery may flood at times of high water.

Gasconade Cemetery is the final resting place for many members of the George family. Ollie F. George, wife of C.E. George, has the earliest marked stone, having passed away 14 July, 1927. There are several unmarked graves in this cemetery, some of these may predate Mrs. George’s burial.

Margaret Ellen (Hedrick) Rose 1892-1959

Funeral services for Margaret Ellen Rose were held Thursday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gasconade Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wilmoth officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Pallbearers were Fred Holtsman, Dove George, Hubert ___lier, Verdant Atwell, ____ Hicks, and Dean Doyle.

Margaret Ellen “Hedrick” Rose was born near Crocker, August 28, 1892 and died at the Pulaski County General Hospital October 28, 1959 at the age of 67 years and two months.

She was married January 9, 1910 to Milam Rose. To this union twelve children were born. They lived their entire married life in this community. For the past ten years Mrs. Rose had been in failing health.

Survivors are her husband, Milam of the home; five daughters: Mrs. Gladys Hamilton and Mrs. Wanda Adkins of Waynesville, Mrs. Dorothy Williams of Kansas City, Mrs. Helen Berquist of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. William Keeth of Dixon; five sons: Pearl and Everald of Dixon, Drew of St. Louis, John of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Marvin of the home; four sisters: Mrs. Sadie Hancock of Dixon, Mrs. Gertrude Johnson of St. Louis, Mrs. Charlotte Beecher of Arnold, Missouri, Mrs. Olive Maples of Rolla; two brothers: Floyd A. Miller of St. Louis and E.P. Miller of Crocker. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
