WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (Feb. 1, 2010) — Local police and state troopers are hunting for the driver who struck and killed a Waynesville woman late Sunday night. According to Waynesville Police Chief Robert Carter, Rhonda West, 51, was struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle while walking on North Highway 17. The crash was reported at 10:35 p.m., near Rice’s Cleaners near the north end of the city, about the same time as a burglary in progress outside the city limits. Pulaski County deputies asked for a backup response from Waynesville police, but that didn’t happen due to the report of a pedestrian crash. Carter said West was transported to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Investigation is ongoing by Waynesville police and state troopers. Carter said anyone with additional information should contact Lt. Gary Brankel of the city police department. |
