Boy Accidentally Killed

Theodore Edgar, the little 8 year old son of Theodore Strom living between here and Swedeborg, was killed by a horse about 7 o'clock Wednesday morning. The child was riding one of the horses to the field as they went to work and Mr. Strom was leading the horse when the animal became frightened and gave a sudden jump, jerking loose from Mr. Strom and ran away. The child was thrown from the horse but his feet caught in the harness and was drug 'till the horse had exhausted himself. The child was horribly bruised and dead when rescued. The little body was tenderly laid away in the St. John cemetery yesterday. The sympathy of the many friends of the family goes out to them in the ordeal of this terrible accident. -Richland Mirror

John Strom 1835-1904

Mr. John Strom was born in his native land, Sweden, June the 27th 1835. He came to America in the year 1868. He married Miss Carolina J. Bergman, at Springfield Mo. November 17, 1871, and with his bride came the same year to a farm one and half miles from Swedeborg, Mo. where he has ever since resided.

He died on the 23rd day of January, at 10:30 a.m. 1904. He leaves a wife, one married and two single sons and one single daughter. A son and daughter have preceded him to the spirit land.

The departed was a member of the Lutheran Church in his own country, but was never connected with a church here. He lived an honest, industrious upright life, and in the absence of a minister has conducted funerals.

He was a good neighbor, and was honored and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed by many friends.

Funeral services were held at the home on January 25, at 11: a.m. 1904, by J.R. Blunt of Richland, after which the body was laid to rest in the city of the dead near his home.

*He was a member of the Richland Lodge of Ancient Order of United Workmen and carried a policy of $2000 which will provide for his wife and children.

Bonnie Clifie (Decker) Strom (1928-2012)

Bonnie Clifie (Decker) Strom was born December 18, 1928 in Pulaski County, Missouri.  She was one of two children born to the union of the late Cornelious and Rosa Belle (Myers) Decker.

Bonnie went home to be with her Lord on the morning of February 24, 2012, at the Richland Care Center, Richland, Missouri, at the age of 83 years. 

Bonnie professed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age in the old Baptist Church of Richland and was later baptized by Pastor J.O. Brown.  Bonnie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richland,

Bonnie went to school in Richland graduating from high school there.  She worked outside her home for 13 years at the International Shoe Factory in Richland.

Bonnie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Mark Oliver Strom on June 6, 1964 in Swedeborg, Missouri.  Together they shared many wonderful years together until his death on November 3, 1996.

Bonnie enjoyed canning and working in her garden, especially growing tomatoes when her health permitted.  She found great joy and pride in taking care of her home.

Bonnie was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her niece: Linda Wilson and her husband, Pete of Rolla, MO; a very special caregiver: Judy Murser of Richland, MO; several great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy and half sister. Pansy Calkin.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland with Rev. Christopher Hendrix, Sr. officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were Rick Wilson, Ray Knotts, Luke Knotts, Taylor Ashley, Bill Mercer and Gilbert Whitham.  Honorary pallbearers were Bob Shockley and Robert Fugitt.

Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
