WAYNESVILLE- Funeral services for Miss Minnie Jane Gray, 90, of Waynesville, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Moss-Williams Chapel here with the Rev. Lyle Cox officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A longtime resident of Waynesville, Miss Gray died Friday morning in the Chronic Hospital, St. Louis, following an extended illness.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Esther Florance (Belton) Gray 1918-2010

Esther Florance Gray, of Devil's Elbow, formerly of Brentwood, was born on April 3, 1918, at Dixon, a daughter of Alfred and Dora (Miller) Belton, and departed this life at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010, at her residence in Devil's Elbow. Mrs. Gray had attained the age of 92 years, 4 months and 13 days.

Mrs. Gray was united in marriage on June 10, 1949 at Mountain Home, Arkansas to Mr. Edward Lee Gray and they were blessed with two children. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Juanita Van Huss; her parents; one brother, Richard Miller and three sisters, Gertrude Vest, Connie Howser and Rosie Gage.

Mrs. Gray accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1954 and was a member of the Mattise Baptist Church, St. Louis for several years and then moving her membership to the Southside Baptist Church, St. Louis, where she served as President of the Women's Missionary Union. After moving to Devil's Elbow she attended Sheppard Baptist Church near Dixon. She was a loving and devoted housewife and mother for all her working life.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Gray include: her husband, Edward Gray, of the home in Devil's Elbow; one son, Mark Edward Gray, St. Louis; five grandchildren, Veronica, Bradley, Kelsey, Stephanie and Jamie; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Gray at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 21, 2010 in Dixon Chapel of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes with Bro. Bill Affolter, Maplewood Baptist Church, officiating. George Sneed sung "I've Got A Mansion" and "Peace In The Valley" for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Dry Creek Cemetery near St. Robert under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearer for Mrs. Gray were Bradley Gray, Charlie Gray, Adam Rodabaugh, Lonnie Young, Ralph Rodabaugh and Monroe Rodabaugh.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested by the family to the American Cancer Society with envelopes at the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home, Dixon.

Clifford C. Poulson 1909-1984

Clifford C. Poulson was born on November 16, 1909 at Crocker, Missouri; the son of Seldon G. and Hattie Josephine (Gray) Poulson, and departed this life on January 12, 1984 at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mount Vernon, Missouri. He had attained the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 27 days.

Clifford served over 25 years in Military Service with the United States Air Force, retiring in 1960 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

He was a loving Christian person. He was all liked by all who knew him. He greatly enjoyed all outdoor activities. He will be sadly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 14, 1984 at the Long Moss Williams Chapel of Crocker, Missouri at 2 p.m. with Chaplain Captain Alan Hendrickson officiating.

Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery, Crocker, Missouri, under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Crocker, Missouri. Military honors were presented at graveside.

Pallbearers were military.

Clifford is survived by 2 daughters: Sue Mays, Billings, Missouri; Patricia Hall, New Caney, Texas; 1 son: Clifford B. Poulson, Middleburg, Florida; 3 sisters: Gertie Deardeuff, Ozark, Missouri; Edith Crow, Springfield, Missouri, Mae Salveter, Crocker, Missouri; 1 Brother: Paul Poulson, Springfield, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen Rita, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.

Evelyn Mae (Watson) Gray 1907-1988

Evelyn Mae Gray was born in Dixon, Missouri on October 6, 1907 the daughter of James and Lucinda Allen Watson and passed away in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla on March 4, 1988. She had attained the age of 80 years.

She was united in marriage to Claude Gray and unto this union one son and three daughters were born.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 1988 at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery. Serving as her pallbearers were Ronnie and John Gray, Greg Metzen, Bill Mendenhall, Thomas Jacobs Jr. and Claude Jacobs.

She is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Harry and Wanda Gray of Dixon and James and Ellen Bullard of Oceanside, California; four daughter and sons in law, Elsie and Larry Sims, Flossie Mendenhall and Nancy Pennington of Columbia and Barbara Giordano of Washington, Missouri; four step-children, Francis Noll of Arnold, Missouri, Daisy Hirt of Marion, Indiana, Charles Gray of O’Fallon, Illinois, and Edward Gray of Brentwood, Missouri; 29 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; five sisters, Ethel McGee of Kansas City, Bertha Schoonover of Dixon, Missouri, Thelma Glawson of Crocker, Lillian Gibbons of New Lennox, Illinois and Letha

Lovina Almeda Spalding 1898-1984

Lovina Almeda Spalding was born a daughter of Champ Fred (C.F.) Gray, and Rosina (Hively) Gray on December 19, 1898 near Moab, Missouri in Pulaski County, and she departed this life July 22, 1984 at the Waynesville Nursing Center in Waynesville, Missouri in her 85th year.

Lovina gave her life to Christ in 1916 at the Maze School under a Brush Arbor Revival Meeting held by Rev. Jesse Brown. She was very active in her church work and her Christian faith, and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was united in marriage to Walter Spalding, September 30, 1920, and they shared 45 years together. He preceded her in death October 16, 1965. Lavina spent her entire life in Pulaski County. She had no children, but loved and enjoyed her nieces and nephews as though they were her own.

She is survived by her Step Mother Sophia Gray and one Step Sister, Donna Conner. Four Nephews, Fred Gray and Champ Collier both of Waynesville, Missouri, Walter Gray of Bentleyville, Ohio, and Bob Roach of Jefferson City, Missouri. Five Nieces, Marjorie Ransdall of Waynesville, Missouri, Ruby Bremmerkamp of Jefferson City, Missouri, Lucille Dodd of Springfield, Missouri, Ruby Henson of Excelsior, Missouri, and Mae Hudson of Martinez, Georgia, a number of great nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, july 24, 1984 at 10:00 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wilson Davis and Rev. William Kempen officiating. Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery, under direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Music was furnished by Organist Marjorie Link and Soloist Janell Walters. Songs were “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Where The Roses Never Fade”. those serving as Escorts were David Hoakanson, Robert Belton, Larry Childers, Richard Zeigenbein, Charlie Bench, and Richard Connour.

Francis Marion Mathis 1856-1909

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

Mr. Francis Marion Mathis, died near Waynesville, MO, Mar. 7th 1909 at 20 minutes to 4 p.m., aged 52 ys., 11 ms., & 6 ds. Was taken to the Smith Cemetery near Edgar Springs, Mar. 9th and buried by the side of his mother & father at 4 p.m., service at the cemetery by Watts, Mar. 9th 1909 at 4 p.m., Tues.
