Merrel John Payne 1910-1986

Merrel John Payne, son of Lige and DeLitha Kissinger Payne, was born in Swedeborg, on November 16, 1910 and departed this life on July 20, 1986 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of seventy five years.

On March 4, 1939, Merrel was united in marriage with Bonnie Lundstrom, and to this union was born three sons, all surviving.

As a young man, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ, and became a member of the Swedeborg Christian Church, where he remained a member.

Merrel has farmed in the Pulaski County area most all his life.  He was a member of the Richland Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star, and for many years, served on the Swedeborg School Board and was Commissioner of the Special Road District.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 23, 1986 at 10:00 a.m. with Ministers John Davenport and Rev. Roger Marshall officiating, under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel.

Resting place was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Escorts were: Gerald Payne, Ralph Peterson, Donald Witt, Carl Peterson, Lindell Roam, and Phillip York.

Honorary escorts were: Ralph Hightower, Jim Bill Goforth, Luke Brickey, Bud Witt, Charles P. Goforth and Ralph King.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home; three sons, Merrel Lee and Kerry, both of Richalnd, Bryce of Eldorado Springs, Missouri; four sisters, Grace Manes of Swedeborg, Cora Harris of Ashland, Missouri, Bertha Peterson and Eula York, both of Richland; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; other relatives and friends.

Merrel is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Earl, and two sisters, Ethel eckman and Carmel Roam.

Marceline Faye (Payne) Hammock 1935-2006

Marceline Faye Hammock, daughter of the late Virgil and Julia (James) Payne, was born October 11, 1935 in Steelville, Missouri. As a young girl, Faye attended the Cherry Valley School System. At an early age, Faye accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized.

On March 5, 1953, Faye was united in marriage to Ted Hammock in Laquey, Missouri. They shared over 53 years of marriage together and were blessed with eight children: Cliff, Joyce, Cheryl, Pam, Danny, Bill, Mark and Gary.

Faye enjoyed taking care of her family and was a wonderful cook. She was very talented at crocheting and her most prized piece was The Last Supper. She loved being outdoors working in the garden. She liked to read and collected old dolls. She treasured the times that all her family could be together and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Faye passed away at 3:15 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Faye will be sadly missed, but leaves to cherish her memory her husband: Ted of the home; eight children: Cliff Hammock and his wife, Tammy of Waynesville, Joyce Hammock of the home; Cheryl Wydra and her husband, Stephen, Pam Smith, Danny Hammock, Bill Hammock and his wife, Rhonda, Mark Hammock and his wife, Danna and Gary Hammock all of St. Robert; one brother: Delmer "Bo" McKinnon and his wife, Kay of Turkey Ridge; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Faye was preceded in death by two brothers: Virgil Payne, Jr. and Donny McKinnon and one sister: Phyllis Patterson.

Funeral services were held at 12:00 P.M. Monday, May 22, 2006 in the Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. The songs "Amazing Grace" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" were played. Serving as escorts were Cliff, Bill, Gary, Eric, Danny, Mark, Nathan Hammock and Gary Hammock, Jr.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Georgia M. (Sutton) Doolin 1916-2005

Georgia M. Doolin, daughter of the late Alexander Dotson and Savilla Antonia (Payne) Sutton, was born January 11, 1916 in Hanna, Missouri where she grew up and attended elementary school at Fairview School and the Cave Springs School. She attended Richland High School. As a young girl, Georgia accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized.

At the age of 18, Georgia began her life as a working adult. Her first job was as a child caregiver for (Judge) Doug Long after which she worked at the Red Front Grocery for Floyd Mooney. Mr. and Mrs. Mooney had her leave the store in order to care for their children. Georgia went to work at the Fort Leonard Wood Exchange for a short time before beginning her employment at Jim's Market where she was employed for 31 years.

On July 4, 1937, Georgia was united in marriage to Willie A. "Cotton" Doolin in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared over 43 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children: Nancy, Mary, Willie, Benny and Robert. Cotton preceded her in death on April 5, 1980.

Georgia loved her family and treasured the times that she spent with them, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville and attended as often as she could.

Georgia went home to be with her Lord, surrounded by her loving family at 12:30 P.M. Monday, January 3, 2005 in the James River Care Center of Springfield, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 24 days.

Georgia will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her two daughters: Nancy Quick and her husband, Alfred and Mary Smith, all of Springfield, MO; two sons: Bill Doolin and his wife, Nancy of Dixon, MO and Benny Doolin of Waynesville, MO; one brother: Willis Sutton and two sisters-in-law of the state of Oregon; 6 grandchildren: Robert Quick of Springfield, MO, Susan Howser of Ozark, MO, Kim Riffe of Crocker, MO, Terry Smith of St. Joe, MO, Terry Vance of Springfield, MO and Jennifer Withers of Dixon, MO; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Georgia was preceded in death by three brothers: Claude, Robert and Homer; three sisters: Jewell, Nancy, and Pearl; one son: Robert; one grandson: Jeffrey; two nephews and one son-in-law: Robert Smith.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 8, 2005 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Breeden officiating. J.B. King, friend of the family, gave a beautiful eulogy. Soloist Gilbert Crismon sang "Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross" and "In The Garden" and was accompanied by Pianist Becky Lercher. Serving as escorts were Lee Howser, J.B. King, Aaron Quick, Robert Quick, John Riffe and Terry Smith. Serving as honorary escorts were David, Jim, Robert and Steve Dodds, Freddie Merrill, Terry Vance and Toby Withers.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Robert "Bob" Payne 1944-2010

April 14th, 1944 - January 31st, 2010

Robert Eugene Payne went home to be with his Lord January 31, 2010, at St. John’s Medical Center, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 16 days.

Bob was born April 14, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was one of eight children, Peggy, Helen, Tom, Elwood, Donald, Betty, Margie, born to the union of the late Thomas and Era (Yates) Payne. Bob spent his early childhood and attended elementary school in St. Louis, before the family moved to Cuba, Missouri.

In 1962, Bob entered the U.S. Army. He served two tours in the Vietnam War, where he was shot nine times. Other duty stations included Korea, Germany and Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Bob served his country with great pride and honor, and was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Overseas Service Bars (2), National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver service star, German Marksmanship Award (bronze), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge (M16) and the Meritorious Service Medal. Staff Sergeant Payne retired from active duty service in 1984 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.

On November 5, 1965, Bob was united in marriage with the love of his life, Doris Jean Schwidde. In their 44 years together, Bob and Doris were blessed with three wonderful children, Tina, Rob and Lance. Their family grew to include Tina’s husband, Dan, Rob’s wife, Ronda and Lance’s wife, Sara. And finally, the joy of Bob’s life, the grandchildren, Blair, Wyatt, Mason, Cody, Blake, Hunter, and Easton is on his way.

Bob worked in civil service at Ft. Leonard Wood as the Activities Director at the 3rd Brigade Gym. He owned and operated Payne’s Sporting Goods in St. Robert, and worked for the City of Richland as the Park Director. Bob was an avid sports fan. He not only enjoyed watching sports, but for many years, played softball and was a member of the All Army Fast Pitch team. He also enjoyed hunting with special friends. Bob especially loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals with his grandchildren.

Bob was one of those special people whose light always shone. No matter where he was, or who he was with, he never met a stranger. He was “Magic Bob” to all little children. Bob’s deep, unfaltering love of the Lord led him to mission trips in Haiti, Germany and several locations in the U.S. He traveled with the Benny Hinn Ministry for a time, served as associate pastor at Buckhorn Baptist Church, was a past member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, and was currently a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Richland. But Bob’s true passion was visitation ministry. Whether it be a nursing home, hospital or someone’s home, Bob’s heart was touched by his time spent visiting those who were ill or just in need of a friendly visit.

Bob was very dearly loved, and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Doris; one daughter: Tina Ganoe (Dan) of Richland, MO; two sons: Rob Payne (Ronda) of Edgar Springs, MO and Lance Payne (Sara) of Richland, MO; two sisters: Peggy Garcia (Johnny) of the state of CA; Helen Wirz (Ralph) of Monroe Falls, OH; one brother: Tom Payne (Dorothy) of Crestview, FL; his grandchildren: Blair, Wyatt, Mason, Cody, Blake, Hunter (and Easton is on his way); several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two sisters: Betty Chism and Margie Wilson and two brothers: Elwood and Donald Payne.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Rev. Nathan Sheridan, Rev. Chuck Baker and Rev. Lee Todd officiating. Special friend, Pat Gambill shared fond memories of Bob as did other friends and family. Special music selections included “Trading My Sorrows”, “Show Me Your Face” and “I Will Rise” provided by Dirk Ellis, Cindy and Gerry Frank, John Olle, Amber Sheridan and Paul Bills. Serving as pallbearers were Rex Pingleton, Rex Allan Pingleton, Jimmy Payne, Gerry Frank, Mark Jones, Terry Glick, Mike Reagan and Junior Barker. Honorary escorts included Tom Payne, Levell Barker, Curly Basham, Pat Gambill, Bob DeForest, Robert Jenkins and Mark Karr.

Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army, Fort Leonard Wood. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels.

Earl E. Payne 1901-1984

Earl E. Payne, son of Lige and Delitha Kissinger Payne, was born March 20, 1901 in Swedeborg, Missouri and departed this life May 6, 1984, at the age of 83 years, one motnh, and 16 days.

Earl was united in marriage with Effie Bartlett on August 11, 1927, and to this union was born three children, who survive.

As a young man Earl was converted and baptized into the Swedeborg Christian Church, although most of his married life he attended Elm Grove Baptist Church, which was near their home. He farmed most of his life in the Richland area.

Those left to mourn his passing are two sons: Gerald of Richland, and Don of Carrolton, Texas; one daughter, Dolores Mitchele of Muscatine, Iowa; one brother, Merrel of Richland; four sisters, Bertha Peterson and Eula York, both of Richland, Grace Manes of Swedeborg, and Cora Harris of Ashley, Missouri; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Ethel Eckman and Carmel Roam, and by his wife Effie, who passed away October 3, 1981.

Services were held Wednesday, May 9, 1984, 11:00 a.m. at the Colonial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Henry Addison officiating.

Music was provided by Dwight Roam, soloist and DeLores Shadel, organist.

Escorts were: Merrel Lee Payne, Phillip York, Kerry Payne, Ralph Peterson, John Henry Mitschele, and Dillwood Tabor.

Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland.

Carmel (Payne) Roam 1902-1984

Services for Carmel Roam were held at Colonial Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 1984. Officiating at the services was Minister Mike Vernon. Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, Soloist, and Marcia Shadel, Organist. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Escorts were: Kevin Roam, dean Roam, Mark Clark, Dean Roam, Mark Clark, Steve Belsh, Jim Dippert, and James Laquey. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels of Richland, Missouri.

Carmel Roam, daughter of L.A. and Delitha Kissinger Payne, was born December 4, 1902 in Swedeborg, and departed this life on February 4, 1984 at her home in Richland.

She was united in marriage with Robert Roam on February 1, 1927, and to this union was born two children, both surviving. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Ethel Eckman.

Carmel lived most of her life on their farm in Pulaski County. She accepted Christ as her Saviour January 25, 1914 and became a member of the Swedeborg Church. She moved her membership to the Christian Church in Richalnd, when she made her home there. She was not only a faithful church member, but a very faithful Christian. Her church and her God were an important part of her life.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her son Lindell Roam of St. Louis; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Clark of Memphis, Indiana; two brothers, Earl and Merrel Payne both of Richland; four sisters, grace Manes of Swedeborg, Bertha Peterson and Eula York, both of Richland; Cora Harris of Ashland, Missouri; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
