Nancy McCown 1822-1885

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1882-1912.

Mrs. Nancy McCown, wife of Eli McCown, born in Butler Co., KY, March 14th 1822, died on Big Piney, Pulaski Co., July 31st 1885, aged 63 ys. 4 ms. and 17 ds. A funeral sermon was preached at the house of Mrs. Bird Kinnaird from Job 14 X 14 by J.J. Watts after which she was buried at the Watts Lawn Cemetery, Aug 1st 1885. Husband and 5 children survive .
