Lizzie (Hale) Copeland 1873-1916

Gone Home To Rest

Mrs. Lizzie Copeland, wife of C.R. Copeland was born at Edgar Springs, Mo., March 2, 1873, and died at her home about one mile southwest of Dixon Tuesday, afternoon, March 28th, being 43 years and 26 days old.

She was the oldest daughter of S.R. and Mary Hale and was married to Chas. R. Copeland at Spring Creek Dec. 2, 1891. To this union 5 children were born, 4 of whom are still living: Mrs. Ruth Stewart, Clyde, Lois and Right, and 4 sisters and 1 brother to mourn her departure.

She was sick about 23 days and although her suffering was intense she bore it as well as anyone could. She had been unconscious for some time but when the end was near she became conscious and began calling all of her relatives to her one by one and told them what she wanted them to do and bidding them good bye until her aged father came and he said to her, "Lizzie I would not talk so much as the doctor says there is a chance for you" but she said to him "Oh! Papa, I have so much to tell and such a short time to tell it, I must hurry." He asked her if she was afraid to die and her answer was "Oh! No, I'm just going home to reap my reward. I have labored so long and diligently. It is just over there Papa, can't you see it?" She said "I hate to go and leave you all, especially my little boy, Right, as I always prayed to live to raise him. I am not afraid to leave Clyde for I have so instructed him I know he will follow in my footsteps. Now I want you all to follow in the footsteps of my Saviour so my little son will follow you."

She united with the M.E. Church at Bloodland in 1912 but all her life she had lived as a true christian and was a great church and Sunday School worker as the people of Bloodland and Hooker know. In conclusion she said, "My life has been an open book for anyone to read. I have always help up for that which was good and suppressed the bad. I have my ticket ready and am only waiting for the train to carry me home where my seat is waiting for me and I want you to so live that when the time comes to you, you will also be ready to join me in the family circle around the Throne of God." Her last words were "Oh! Look at the beautiful sun!"

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.E. Mathews, of Newburg, at the home in a very beautiful and impressive manner after which her remains were laid to rest in the Dixon cemetery to await the sound of the trumpet on the Resurrection Morning.

Richard "Richie" Paul Hale, Jr. 1968-2004

Richard "Richie" Paul Hale, Jr., son of Richard Paul and Mary Jo (McClanahand) Hale, was born October 16, 1968 in St. Louis, Missouri.

When Richie was a young boy, he lived and attended grade school in Granite City, Illinois. Richie and his family moved to the Pulaski County area where he attended Waynesville High School.

Richie was currently employed with the Stoner Construction Company from Dixon. He was also a steel worker with Ludwig Construction Company. He was a member of the Wingmen Motorcycle Club at Devils Elbow, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and most outdoor activities. Richie attended the Grace Covenant Christian Center at Buckhorn.

As a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in St. Robert, Missouri, Richie passed away the morning of Friday, June 18, 2004 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the age of 35 years, 8 months and 2 days.

He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his parents: Richard and Mary Jo Hale of Devils Elbow, MO; 1 daughter: Maranda Pauline Clements-Hale of Morrison, MO; 1 son: Anthony Paul Price of New Bloomfield, MO; 1 sister: Angie Hale McGlawn of Granite City, IL; 1 brother: Jacob Hale of Dodge, TX; 1 grandson: Ethan Towery; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 AM Monday, June 21, 2004 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Pastor Judi Tillett officiating. The song "Amazing Grace was played. Richies niece, Crystal Humphreys gave a beautiful eulogy. Serving as escorts were Jacob Hale, Keith McGlawn, Mark Schneedle, Randy Baker, Andy Matyas, Neil Purdy, Jerry Shepard and Gerry Shaw. Serving as honorary escorts were Rich Hale, Sr., Anthony Price, "Sarge Kevin Sargent and Chris Leaverton.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Richies friend, Peaches singing "Homeward Bound". Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Richard Paul Hale, Jr. and may be left at the funeral home.

Gordon Alexander Logan 1873-1955

Funeral Services Are Held For Long Time Waynesville Resident

Gordon Alexander Logan, son of George Lewis and Milbera Logan was born on March 25, 1873 at Edgar Springs, Missouri in Phelps County and departed this life August 20, 1955 at 9:30 P.M. at the Long’s Nursing Home near Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 82 years, four months and 25 days.

In the year 1899 he moved to Waynesville with his parents and has lived practically all of his life in this vicinity.

He united in marriage to Alice Thompson and to this union three children were born and all have preceded him in death. His wife passed away in 1902. One son passed away in infancy; another son Snowden Logan passed away in 1941; and a daughter Bessie Gaddy passed away in 1938. He also has been preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

In 1910 he was united in marriage to Cora Yeakley who also survives. Also surviving is one brother, G.C. Logan of St. Louis, Missouri, one sister, Alice Adams of Waterloo, Iowa, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn Logan, Waynesville, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

In 1934 he became blind and with the help of others, he adjusted himself to things in everyday life that he could do and accepted it very pleasantly.

A number of years ago he was converted and united with the Waynesville Methodist Church and held membership there until time of passing. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Masonic Lodges of Waynesville. He was a kind and loving personality and was respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Wednesday August 24, 1955 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Methodist Church with Rev. John Bolen, pastor, officiating.
Interment was made in the Bradford Cemetery with funeral arrangements under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Masonic rites were given by Waynesville Lodge and pallbearers were of the Waynesville Odd Fellows Lodge.

Lelia Helen Hale Atwell Samuelson Loghry 1911-2001

Lelia Helen Hale Atwell Loghry, Delta, was born on Feb. 24, 1911, at Crossroads in Miller County, Mo., the daughter of Samuel H. and Beulah Helen (Null) Hale. She died Friday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Delta County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was 89. Mrs. Loghry was first married on March 31, 1934, at Iberia, Mo., to Arthur Atwell. They had one daughter. After Mr. Atwell’s death, she married S.W. Samuelson of Riverton, Wyo., in October 1959. He also preceded her in death. In December 1985, she married Gerald Loghry in Riverton, Wyo.; he survives. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lena Martin Long and Gladys Deardeuff. Mrs. Loghry taught Sunday school for many years and prior to her marriage to Mr. Atwell, she was a grade school teacher. She had a real and living faith. She was a free lance writer of religious articles, humor and poetry. She also wrote a weekly column for the Riverton Ranger for years. She was a devoted homemaker and housewife all her life. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Loghry of Delta; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Wendell Putman of Cedaredge; her stepchildren; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four brothers, Norman Hale of Wright City, Mo., Robert Hale of Cohokia, Ill., Bill Hale of St. Louis, Mo., and Ted Hale of Lebanon, Mo.; and two sisters, Nina Hess of Jerome, Mo., and June Reising of Salem, Mo. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Rev. John Parker, pastor of First Baptist Church, Dixon, Mo., officiating. Interment was in the Dixon, Mo., under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Minnie Ina (Hale) Evans Goodman 1922-2009

Minnie Ina Evans Goodman, of Dixon, was born on September 8, 1922, in Miller County, a daughter of Fredrick and Maude (Hale) Howser and departed this life at 12:15 P.M., Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at her residence in Dixon. She had attained the age of 86 years, 3 months and 28 days.

Mrs. Goodman was united in marriage on September 23, 1938, at Vienna, to Floyd R. Evans and to this union six children were born. She was later united in marriage in May 1995 to Harold Goodman. She was preceded in death by her first husband on June 6, 1987; her second husband in 1998; four sons, Melvin Evans, Alston Evans, Danny Evans and Charles Fredrick Evans; three brothers, Monroe Howser, Alston Howser and Robert Howser and one sister, Evie Goodman.

Mrs. Goodman had attended Santee Church near Dixon, she loved quilting, putting puzzles together and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had worked for Brown Shoe Company, Dixon for 30 years and later for Missouri Home Care for 5 years.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Goodman include: one son, Paul Evans, Lake of the Ozarks; one daughter, Judy Parham, Dixon; one brother, Virgil Howser, Dixon; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date in the Freedom Cemetery near Dixon.
