Soldier's Death Result of Mishap, Coroner Rules

WAYNESVILLE (Special)- The shotgun death of a 38-year-old retired soldier was termed accidental yesterday by Pulaski County Coroner C.E. Moss.

The body of Walter S. Moore, Waynesville, who had been shot in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun, was found at his home Thursday  night by his wife.

Officers said Moore apparently was hanging up a coat in a closet when the weapon discharged. Moore recently retired as master sergeant after 20 years of Army service, part of which was spent at Fort Leonard Wood.

In addition to his wife, Gwendolyn, he is survived by two sons, Walter, Jr., and Benjamin Earl, of the home; a daughter, Linda Kay, also of the home; three brothers, Don M., of Graceland, Calif., Sam, of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Earl of Washington D.C., and three sisters, Mrs. Sue Williams, Decatur, Ga., Mrs. Lyda Mills, Jackson, Miss., and Mrs. Alma Brenner, Biloxi, Miss.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church here by Dr. Cleveland Horne. Burial will be in the Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under direction of Moss-Williams.

Elijah Alphonso Moore 1912-1986

Elijah Alphonso Moore was born a son of William O. Moore and Irene (James) Moore on February 20, 1912 in the State of Arkansas, and he departed this life on October 18, 1986 at his home in Plato, Missouri in his 74th year,

Elijah had a degree as an electrical engineer.  He worked at Dodge Truck (missing text).  He was a butcher several years.  He worked as a machine operator as Hardware Spring in the State of Michigan, after which he retired.  After his retirement, he enjoyed farming and seeing things accomplished.

Elijah was a loving and devoted father, frandfather, son, nephew and friend.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 22, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jess Norris officiating.  Music was provided by organist, Dorothy Moore.  Escorts were: Larry Brooks, Norman Fahle, Sheldon Gaines, Bobby Hall, Mike McDonald, Tommy Moore and William Moore.

Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

He is survived by one son, Raymond Moore of Warren, Michigan, and one daughter, Rita Moore Gaines of Detroit, Michigan; one sister, Dimple Fahle of Livonia, Michigan; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Elijah was preceded in death by his parents and Uncle.

Bessie Aline (Derrington) Newcomer 1895-1984

Bessie Aline Newcomer, daughter of Lusch and Matilda Cravens Derrington, was born September 2, 1895 at Polar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life October 21, 1984 in the Lebanon Care Center where she had been a resident for several years.

On August 10, 1918 she was united in marriage with Earl Moore and to this union was born one daughter, Dorothy, who survives. Her husband preceded her in death.

At an early age Bessie professed her faith in Christ and for many years had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Richland.

On July 29, 1934 she was united in marriage with Harry Newcomer. He preceded her in death February 12, 1976.

For a number of years she had been a member of Success Chapter #87 Order of the Eastern Star, Richland.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Schaefer of Harrison, Arkansas, three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Ollie, Walter, Eli, Roy, and Lawrence Derrington and one sister Sue Williams.

Services were held Tuesday, October 23, 1984, 1:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Marshall officiating.

Music was provided by DeLores Shadel organist.

Escorts were family members.

Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel.

Irene J. (James) Moore 1888-1984

Irene J. Moore was born a daughter of Clement Alphonso James and Eunice Belle (Cable) James on August 22, 1888, in Plato, Missouri, and she departed this life in April 11, 1984 at the Phelps County Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri in her 95th year.

She united in marriage to William Ottis Moore on April 5, 1911, and to this union two children were born. They shared 52 years together.

Mrs. Moore, along with her husband, were in the grocery business for 30 years. They worked together until his death, after which she continued for one year, and then she retired. She was very active, caring for her home, garden, and family. She returned to Plato, Missouri in May, 1983, to care for her invalid brother, and after his death she continued to make her home in Plato, feeling good to have returned back to live where she had been born.

She is survived by one son: Elijah Moore of Troy, Michigan; one daughter: Dimple Fahle of Livonia, Michigan; two brothers: Orin James of Tulot, Arkansas, and Floyd James of Whitmore Lake, Michigan; one sister Belle Pick of Trumann; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 15, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Those serving as escorts were grandsons: Tommy Moore, Raymond Moore, Sheldon Gaines, Steve Herrick, Douglas Fahle, LeRoy Fahle, and William Moore.

Clyde E. Moore 1930-1984

Clyde E. Moore, son of Floyd and Lola Boulware Moore, was born in Crocker, Missouri on March 11, 1930, and departed this life August 3, 1984, in Springfield, Missouri after a short illness.

He was united in marriage with Shirley Saltzman on August 2, 1951, and to this union was born three sons, and three daughters, all surviving.

Clyde professed his faith in Christ as a young man and became a member of the Grace Baptist Church, later moving his membership to the First Baptist Church in Richland, where he has remained a member.

Due to health reasons Clyde retired recently after nineteen years of employment with Civil Service as a truck driver.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; his parents, Floyd and Lola Moore of Crocker; three sons, Richard Ernest of Ashland, Missouri, Melvin Eugene of Mooreland, Oklahoma, DeWayne Eddie of Richland; three daughters, Vera Sue Havens of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Vonda Lou Pollard, of Richland, Missouri, and Patrice Louise Stafford of Mooreland, Oklahoma; two brothers, Chester and Clinton, both of Crocker; two sisters, Eileen Clinkenbeard and Wanda Walters, both of Crocker: six grandchildren, Kevin, Michael, Bradley, Kelly, Jennifer, and Scotty: as well as other relatives and friends.

Services for Clyde Moore were held at the First Baptist Church, 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 5, 1984. Officiating at the services were Rev. Roger Marshall and Pryor Ray Prewett. Music was provided by Betty Moore, soloist, and Sharon Gundram, organist. Burial was in the Assembly of God Cemetery. Escorts were: John Gan, Don Tanner, Bill Crossland, Norman Bowen, under direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels.

Charles Moore 1942-2009

PATTON, Mo. -- Charles Moore, 67, of Patton died Friday, July 31, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1942, at Crocker, Mo., son of Kenneth and Pearl Best Moore. He and Peggy McGowan were married June 3, 1961, in Swedeborg, Mo. He and Sharon "Sherry" Henderson of Patton were married Dec. 21,1985, in Crocker.
Mr. Moore was foreman with Shadetree Service Co. in Fenton, Mo. After retiring he owned several businesses. He was a 27-year member of IBEW Local 702. He was an avid fisherman and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Rocky Tallent; an adopted daughter, Sabrina Moore, all of Patton; three stepchildren, Tina Stubbs, Tracy Coyle and Billy Coyle, all of Springfield, Ill.; three brothers, James Moore of Camdenton, Mo., Kenny Moore of Crocker, Leon Moore of St. Charles, Mo.; a sister, Donna Dake of St. Charles; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, a niece and two stepchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hilltop Christian Union Church in Crocker, with the Rev. Bill Claiborn officiating.
Wilson Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
