Amanda Josephine Welch Laughlin 1895-1958

Amanda Josephine Welch Laughlin, was born in Phelps County, Missouri, May 19, 1895. She departed this life at Waynesville General Hospital February 20, 1958 at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 1 day.

Early in life she was converted and united with the Hopewell Baptist Church at Big Piney, later moving her membership to the Waynesville Baptist Church. Several years ago she moved her membership to the Mt. Gibson Baptist Church where she was a faithful member, a teacher of various classes, and held her positions until the time of her death.

On February 3, 1914 she was united in marriage to Orville Laughlin. To this union was born one son.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Orville Laughlin, her son, James Laughlin, sister Clara Elkins of Waterford, California, four brothers, Tom Welch of Roby, Missouri, Sam and John Welch of Ceres, California, and __larence Welch of Gallup, New Mexico, ___ grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Revs. Dallas Wells and B.R. Tatum, were held at the Waynesville Baptist Church on Sunday, February 23. Interment was in Waynesville Memorial Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Claudie Laughlin, Orville Welch, Walter Nichols, Dale Welch, Oscar Ichord, and Wayne Laughlin.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Orville Laughlin Held Last Sunday

Mrs. Orville Laughlin, pioneer resident of Pulaski County, passed away last Thursday at the Waynesville General Hospital where she had been a patient for about two weeks. Mrs. Laughlin had suffered from a heart condition for a number of years. She and Mr. Laughlin were well known residents of the Mt. Gibson community and were active in church and civic affairs.

J_____ as Mrs. Laughlin was known to her host of friends, was one of the best known and best liked ladies of this community. She will be sadly missed, not only by her family, but by many neighbors and friends. We join in extending our sympathy to Orville and James and family in their hour of sorrow.

Mrs. Vesta Aline Welch 1931-1976

Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Vesta Welch

Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon for Mrs. Vesta Aline Welch, age 47, of Bog Piney, who passed away on Wednesday morning at the Phelps County Hospital following a lingering illness.

Services will be held at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Reavil Hankins and Rev. Marvin Davis officiating, with interment in the Big Piney Cemetery, under the direction of Long-Moss-Williams Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon of Big Piney; two sons, Danny of Lebanon, and Gary of the home; one brother, Bill Smith of Houston, Missouri; and one sister, Virginia Page of Big Piney.

Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday night at the Long-Moss-Williams Chapel.

Kimberly Ann (Welch) Crossland 1963-2009

Kimberly Ann Crossland, 46, of Waynesville, Missouri died July 20, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born June 27, 1963 in St. Louis, the daughter of Nell and Doug Welch.

On September 18, 1999 she was united in marriage to Richard Crossland at Waynesville.

Mrs. Crossland was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Myrtle McCord and Grandfather Leroy White; one son, Matthew Allgier; brother, Greg Wheeling; and two step-sisters, Carol Man and Cathy Baker.

She is survived by her parents, Nell and Doug Welch; her husband Richard Crossland; one son, Ryan Cevasco of Waynesville; one daughter, Sara Reichert of Columbia, Missouri; one brother, Warren Wheeling of Waycross, Georgia; three sisters, Cynthia Crawford of Toccoa, Georgia, Sheila Bonzell of Cleveland, Ohio and Angel Wheeling of Columbia; one step-brother, Carl Welch of Farmington, Missouri; three step-sisters, Debra Neff of Fredericktown,Cynthia Torres of Yuma, Arizona and Sandra Wheeling of St. Louis.

She had three grandchildren.

Services were held July 24, 2009 at Follis and Sons Chapel with Pastor Clyde Bess officiating.

Robert Dale Welch 1926-1975

Robert Dale Welch, son of the late George D. and Annie Lane Welch, was born June 24, 1926, at Waynesville, Missouri.

He passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, 13 October, 1975, having attained the age of 49 years, 3 months, 19 days.

When Robert was a small boy the family moved to the Big Piney vicinity and it has continued to be his home.

On November 23rd, 1949 Robert was married to Lillian Hope York and to this union 2 sons were born.

He leaves to mourn his passing: His wife Lillian, of the home, a son Robert Dwight, of Plato, Missouri, and a son Randy dale of the home, his daughter-in-law Brenda Reed Welch, a granddaughter, Stacie Lynn, 1 sister and brother-in-law Opal and Simon Gilbert, of Big piney; 4 brothers, Vernon G. and Clyde L., of Big Piney, His twin brother, Orville Don, of Jefferson City, Missouri, James Leo of Palmdale, California, 9 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

His parents and a sister, Juanita Welch Berry, preceded him in death.

Robert was saved and united with the Hopewell Baptist Church when he was a young man. His deep faith substantiated him during his long illness.

Robert will be lovingly missed by all who knew him, but none would want to call him back for he is free from pain and is at peace in God’s loving care.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 16th, 1975, 2 p.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Ewell Groves, and the Rev. Martin Davis. Interment was in the Hopewell Cemetery under the direction of the Moss-Williams Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Charles Sidwell, Curtiss Spitker, Claudie Chambers, Paul Page, Dale Sanders, Ronald Chambers.

Gertrude Fay (Greer) Hedrick Welch 1906-1981

Gertrude Fay Welch of Waynesville, Missouri, was born on March 13, 1906 in Waynesville, Missouri, the daughter of George Henry and Julie Elizabeth (McKinnon) Greer and passed away on June 27, 1981 at the Phelps County Memorial Hospital in Rolla, Missouri. She had attained the age of 75 years, 3 months and 14 days.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Hedrick in 1926. Mr. Hedrick passed away in 1954.

She was later married to John Welch in 1957, and Mr. Welch passed away in 1974.

Mrs. Welch was a member of the Hickory Hills Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, June 30, 1981 at the Long Moss Williams Chapel in Waynesville Missouri at 2 p.m. with Bill Tallant officiating. Burial was in the Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: John Greer, Junior Brady, Irvin Greer, Charles Randolph, Eddy Randolph, and Bud Sheldon.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Clarence Greer and Cecil Greer.

She is survived by one son: Melvin L. Hedrick, Leavenworth, Kansas; one sister: Leans Gasko, St. Robert, Missouri; two brothers: Wilmer Greer, and Roy Greer both of Waynesville, Missouri; two granddaughters: Lisa Hedrick, Leavenworth, Kansas; three step-sons: Harold Welch, Rogers, Arkansas, Raymond Welch, Waynesville, Missouri, John Welch, the state of Illinois; two step-daughters: Wilma Youngblood, the state of Oklahoma; Norma Jean Coats, the state of Illinois.

Clyde Leondas Welch 1915-1977

Clyde Leondas Welch, son of the late George and Anna Welch, was born on the 11th day of September 1915 at Big Piney, Missouri and passed away on the 12th day of October 1977, in the Texas County memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 1 day.

Clyde was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Robbins on the 14th day of May 1948 at Waynesville, Missouri and unto this union were born 2 sons and 2 daughters.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home, 2 sons, Edward of the home, and Charles of Licking, 2 daughters, Clara Smith of Big Piney and Greta Barnes of Germany, 3 grandchildren, 1 sister Opal Gilbert of Big Piney, 3 brothers Verner of Big Piney, Donald of Jefferson City, and Leo of Palm-…

Mary Blanch Welch 1900-1904

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

Mary Blanch, daughter of James A. and Sarah Ann Welch, was born on the Freeman farm on Big Piney River August 24th 1900 and died same place Feb. 24th 1904, 11 a.m., aged 3 ys & 6 ms. Was of a family of 9 children, 7 of whom survive. Was buried at Newtown (Big Piney P.O.) Pulaski Co., MO, on Thur. Feb. 25th 1904 at 3 O'clock p.m. Service of singing, remarks, and prayer by J.J.
