Mrs. Lockey J. Crossland d. 13 June 1958

Mrs. Lockey Jane (Exendine) Crossland, 77, Waynesville, died at the Waynesville General Hospital, yesterday.

Survivors are five sons, Ernest and Robert Exendine, both of Mexico, MO., Marion and George Exendine, both of Waynesville, and Alfred Exendine, Lebanon; four daughters, Mrs. Martha Rogers, Dry Knob, Mrs. Clark Allison, Okmulgee, Okla., and Mrs. Nancy Wayne and Mrs. Lillie Fuller, both of Waynesville; seven brothers Jonny and Henry Starnes, both of Brownfield, Jake and Ike Starnes, both of Sunnyview, Farmer Starnes, Richland, Oscar Starnes, Santa Maria, Calif., and Jessie Starnes, Lebanon; two half brothers, Dophys and Arthur Starnes, both of Independence; 31 grandchilden and 49 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p,m, (CST) Sunday in Buckhorn Baptist Church, near Waynesville, with the Rev. B.R. Tatom officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Hedges of Waynesville in charge.

WAYNESVILLE- Funeral services for Samuel Wiley Crossland, 79, who died at 8 p.m. Monday in his home here, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church here. The Rev. Virgil Manes will officiate and burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under direction of Moss-Williams.

A member of the First Baptist Church here, he is survived by his wife, Dora, Crystal City; two daughters, Mrs. Aline Sanders, Festus, and Mrs. Imogene Winchell, St. Louis; a brother Tom, St. Clair; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Graves, Waynesville, Mrs. Addie Bostwick, Guthrie, Okla., and Mrs. Rosie York, Swedeborg; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services for Marilyn Crossland, two-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel W. Crossland, of Waynesville, who died yesterday, have been set for Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Waynesville Baptist Church with the Rev. B.R. Tatom officiating. Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Cemetery, directed by Hedges of Waynesville.

Also surviving are three brothers, William, Sammy and Danny, and a sister, Marlene, of the home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Ousley of Waynesville; and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Crossland, also of Waynesville.

Flossie Cornelia (Crossland) McClendon 1912-1986

Flossie Cornelia McClendon was born in Bloodland, Missouri on January 17, 1912 the daughter of Narbanus and Eva Hill Crossland and passed away in the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia on May 6, 1986.  She had attained the age of 74 years.

She was united in marriage to Everett McClendon and unto this union 1 daughter and 4 sons were born.

Flossie is survived by her daughter Wanda Anderson of Dixon, 4 sons, J.D. McClendon of Devils Elbow, Lloyd McClendon of Lebanon, Doug McClendon of Dixon and Roy McClendon of Jerome, 12 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Sam Crossland of Swifton, Arkansas and Earl Crossland of Dixon, 2 sisters, Sylvia Spears of Bentonville, Arkansas and Maude Sanders of Hunt, Arkansas with other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 grandchildren, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour at an early age and was a member of Sheppard Baptist Church.  She loved her gardening and quilting and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Chapel on Friday, May 9, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Ed Pierce officiating.  Burial was in the Pisgah Cemetery.  Kathy Brandt was the pianist and serving as her pallbearers were Roy, and Jack Crossland, and Doug, Lloyd, John and Roy McClendon.  Honorary pallbearers were John McClendon, Don Baker, and Claude Long.

Florence Christine Wieners 1970-1986

Florence Christine Wieners, daughter of Darold and Zella Crossland Wieners was born in Waynesville, Missouri on May 28, 1970 and departed this life June 21, 1986 at the age of 16 years.

Florence professed her faith in Jesus Christ on May 4, 1980 and was a very active member of the New Friendship Baptist Church where she attended regularly.  She sang in the church choir and often sang specials with her mother and sister, and also taught a children’s Sunday School class.  She displayed her love and devotion to her Lord every day of her life through her many kind deeds and special ways with her family and friends.

She attended Laquey School, where she had just completed her Sophomore year, and enjoyed participating in school plays.

Those surviving include her parents, Darold and Zella Wieners of the home; one brother, Darold Jr., of Waynesville; four sisters: Tammy Hicks and Mary Hendrix both of Waynesville, Jennifer of the home, and Lori Kelly of Key West, Florida; her paternal grandmother, Annie May Wieners of Waynesville, and maternal grandfather, Johnny Crossland of Waynesville; other relatives and a host of friends.

Florence is preceded in death by her Grandmother Crossland and her Grandfather Wieners.

Funeral services were from Colonial Funeral Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 1986 with Harvey Dye officiating.

Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist and Valerie Pafford, organist.  Burial was in Center Point Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapels.

Escorts were: Eddie Robbins, Roy Perrine, Wayne Johnson, David Dicke, Dale Shetler, and Grant Prewett.

Effie Arrena (Gan) Tucker 1910-2006

Effie Arrena Tucker, daughter of the late James and Arrena Louisa (Crossland) Gan, was born May 25, 1910 in Bloodland, Missouri where she grew up and attended school.

As a young girl, Effie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized. Throughout her life she had a strong faith in God.

Effie was married to William C. York and on October 2, 1940, Effie was united in marriage to Bryan Tucker in Lebanon, Missouri. Effie was blessed with eight children: Juanita, Roy, Melzona, Deloris, Vada, Wanda, Lana and Judith.

Effie was a hard worker. She worked for a short time on Fort Leonard Wood in the laundry facility, but mostly she took care of her family as a housewife and mother.

In her spare time, Effie loved to sew and was very talented in sewing her own dresses and making quilts. She enjoyed dancing, singing and watching her soap operas.

Effie passed away at 8:00 P.M. Thursday, February 23, 2006 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville, Missouri at the age 95 years, 9 months and 18 days.

Effie will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by one son: Roy C. York and his wife Lee of Columbia, KY; six daughters: Melzona Wilson and her husband Junior, Deloris Logan, Vada Williams, and Judith Ogle all of Waynesville, MO, Wanda Adkins and her husband Bert of Camdenton, MO, and Lana Burgener and her husband Jerry of Olney, IL; 26 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by six sisters, one brother, husband Bryan and one daughter, Juanita Irvin.

A special thanks to our sister Deloris Logan for her unselfish devotion in taking care of our Mother during the last years of her life. We humbly thank you. Our Mom will be greatly missed by us all.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 27, 2006 in the Memorial Chapel of Waynesville with Rev. Gary Humphrey and Rev. Danny Graves officiating. The songs "Mama's Teaching Angels", "Amazing Grace" and "Serenaded By Angels" were played. Serving as escorts were Wayne Adkins, Jerry Burgener, Jr., Leonard Irvin, Derek Ogle, Timothy Ogle, Davis Wilson, Allan Woodby and Calving York. Serving as honorary escorts were Raymond Adkins, Roy Lee Adkins, Mike Wilson, Larry Woodby, Richard Woodby and Terry York.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Gladys I. Crossland Crismon 1925-2008

Gladys I. Crossland Crismon, 82 of Ozark, MO, formerly of Waynesville, passed away February 22, 2008 in Springfield, MO.


Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
 Mrs. Crismon is survived by two daughters: Soni Smith of Sparks, NV and Patty Bauer of Omaha, NE; one daughter-in-law: Donna Crossland of Ozark, MO; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends.

LLOYD ALBERT LEWIS, 1932-1990

Lloyd Albert Lewis of Waynesville, son of Jessie Stephen Lewis and Edith Rose (Crossland) Lewis, was born May 7, 1932, in Waynesville MO. He departed this life at 5:15 p.m. Monday, September 10, 1990 at his home. He had attained the age of 58 years, 4 months and 3 days.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Joan Gan on April 19, 1958, in Waynesville. To this union one daughter, Toni, was born.

Lloyd lived in the Waynesville area throughout his life. He made his living doing construction work. His primary work was that of a carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and attending trail rides.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Joan; his daughter, Toni Barbosa, of Waynesville; five brothers, Jessie Lewis, Henry Lewis and Franklin Lewis, all of Waynesville, and Jim Lewis and Larry Lewis, both of Lebanon; three sisters, Dorothy Wendling of Phoenix AZ, Clara Sewell of Springfield, and Opal Matthews of Waco TX; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Edith Lewis; one brother, David Lewis; and one nephew, Davie Lewis.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 13, at Mt. Gibson Baptist Church, Waynesville, with Rev. Robert Kimmis and Rev. Norman Sanders officiating. Music was provided by pianist Pauline Laughlin and vocalists Jackie Guffey, Jean Laughlin, and Judy Laughlin. Serving as escorts were Elmer Davis, Roy Dye, Jerry Laughlin, Jim Laughlin, Joe Laughlin and James Thompson.

Burial was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

A memorial to the American Cancer Society has been established in memory of Lloyd Albert Lewis.

FLOSSIE CORNELIA McCLENDON 1912-1986

Cora Elizabeth (Gan) Williams 1901-2004

Cora Elizabeth (Gan) Williams, one of seven children born to the late James Elsberry and Arrena Louisa (Crossland) Gan, was born May 25, 1901 at Smith Hollow, a small community which is now part of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Cora was delivered by a mid-wife and weighed only 1 ½ pounds. As a young girl, she attended a one room schoolhouse known as the Lone Star School.

On May 2, 1920, Cora was united in marriage to James Sterling Williams at Wharton, Missouri. Together they shared over 64 years of marriage and were blessed with 6 children: Dorcas Asilea, Edna Arrena, Kellis Lloyd, Ella Lucinda, Donna Lea Lorene and James Floyd.

Shortly after their marriage, Cora and James moved back to the Waynesville area to make their home raising their family and became one of the true pioneers of Pulaski County. She worked hard cutting stave bolts during the depression and later worked as a seamstress for a tailor shop on Ft. Leonard Wood for several years. She cleaned houses for many doctors and local people in the area. She worked hard all her life until she had to retire because of a broken hip.

Cora enjoyed working in her gardens and yard. She loved watching her flowers grow, especially her roses and violets. She was a member of the Home Extension Club.

As a young girl, Cora accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized. She was a devoted member of the Friendship Baptist Church for many years before moving her membership to the Deerlick Baptist Church in the late 1930’s.

Cora went home to be with her Lord at 10:20 P.M. Monday, March 15, 2004 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville at the age of 102 years, 9 months and 18 days.

Cora will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her three daughters: Donna Shoemaker of Waynesville, Arrena Graves of Laquey and Ella Rose of Canyon City, Colorado; one sister: Effie Tucker of Buckhorn; 21 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Cora was also preceded in death by her husband, James on November 27, 1984; three children, Dorcas Asilea Bales and Kellis Lloyd and James Floyd Williams; four grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 19, 2004 in the Deerlick Baptist Church with Cora’s grandson, Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Rev. Gary Humphrey opened the service with prayer and read the obituary. Rev. Elmer Turnbough read a poem selected by the family. Pianist Georgia Primus played the prelude and postlude and Soloist Becky Lercher sang “Amazing Grace” and “Precious Memories”. Serving as escorts were Eddie Graves, Rogert Graves, Randy Laribee, Felton R. Shoemaker, Luis ViJarro and James (Jimmy) Williams. Serving as honorary escorts were Cora’s granddaughters and grandsons.

Burial followed in the Deerlick Cemetery with the song “Amazing Grace” played by bagpipes. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Cora Williams to the Deerlick Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.

David Morris Lewis 1925-1984

David Morris Lewis was born a son of Jessie Stephen Lewis and Edith Rose (Crossland) Lewis on July 30, 1925 and he departed this life March 24, 1984 at the Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri in his 58th year. David was born and grew up in Waynesville, Missouri and later moved to Seattle, Washington. He was employed by the Kaiser Cement Company for 24 years while living in Seattle. In February of 1981 he had to retire due to his poor health.

He was united in marriage to Anna Marie Bales on August 8, 1955. David served in the Armed Forces Seventh Air Force from 1946 to 1949. His hobbies were hunting and fishing and he loved the outdoors. He was a very good father and husband and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

He returned to Springfield, Missouri, May 18, 1983 to make his home. David professed his faith in Christ at the age of 17 years at the First Baptist Church of Waynesville. He was baptized in Ken, Washington in November of 1982.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Anna Marie; two sons: Johnny and Calvin of the State of Washington; one daughter: Katherine York of Springfield, Missouri; his mother: Edith Lewis of Waynesville, Missouri; six brothers: J.J., Lloyd and Henry, all of Waynesville, Missouri, james and Larry of Lebanon, Missouri and Frank of Hazelgreen, Missouri; three sisters: Dorothy McQueen of Phoenix, Arizona, Opal Matthews of Waco, Texas, and Clara Wilkerson of Springfield, Missouri; and seven grandchildren: Holly, Micky, Casey, Christy, Laura, Jenny Joe, and David Earl all of the State of Washington.

Services were held Tuesday, March 27, 1984, 11:00 a.m. at the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. William Kolb officiating.

Music was provided by Marjorie Link, organist and Janell Walters, soloist.

Burial was in Deerlick Cemetery under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Polly Ann (Gan) Brown 1898-1984

Polly Ann Brown was born in Bloodland, Missouri on July 10, 1898, the daughter of James and Arrena Crossland Gan, and passed away in the Columbia Medical Center on Friday night, January 20, 1984. She had attained the age of 85 years.

She was united in marriage to Bannon S. Brown on July 17, 1919.

Mrs. Brown is survived by 1 son, Leland Brown, of Buckhorn; 4 granddaughters, Karolyn Lercher, Karen McAlester, Katheryn and Karel Brown, all of Waynesville; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Edmon Gan of Waynesville; 3 sisters, Cora Williams, Lemzona Fagan, and Effie Tucker, all of Waynesville; with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bannon S. Brown; 1 son, Lemon (Happy) Douglas Brown; 1 daughter, Lois Brown; and 3 sisters, Nora York, Lucinda Adkison and Edna Mae Williams.

She was a faithful member of the Buckhorn Baptist Church and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 23, 1984 at the Buckhorn Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with F.S. Hammons officiating.

Burial was in the Buckhorn Cemetery under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Waynesville, Missouri.

Pallbearers were: Charlie Brown, Phillip Wilkins, Allen Freeman, Donald Brown, Tommy Beals and Roy York.

Kimberly Ann (Welch) Crossland 1963-2009

Kimberly Ann Crossland, 46, of Waynesville, Missouri died July 20, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born June 27, 1963 in St. Louis, the daughter of Nell and Doug Welch.

On September 18, 1999 she was united in marriage to Richard Crossland at Waynesville.

Mrs. Crossland was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Myrtle McCord and Grandfather Leroy White; one son, Matthew Allgier; brother, Greg Wheeling; and two step-sisters, Carol Man and Cathy Baker.

She is survived by her parents, Nell and Doug Welch; her husband Richard Crossland; one son, Ryan Cevasco of Waynesville; one daughter, Sara Reichert of Columbia, Missouri; one brother, Warren Wheeling of Waycross, Georgia; three sisters, Cynthia Crawford of Toccoa, Georgia, Sheila Bonzell of Cleveland, Ohio and Angel Wheeling of Columbia; one step-brother, Carl Welch of Farmington, Missouri; three step-sisters, Debra Neff of Fredericktown,Cynthia Torres of Yuma, Arizona and Sandra Wheeling of St. Louis.

She had three grandchildren.

Services were held July 24, 2009 at Follis and Sons Chapel with Pastor Clyde Bess officiating.

Dora Ann (Ridenhour) Crossland 1897-1976

Dora Ann Crossland, daughter of Isaac and Tenny Williams Ridenhour was born September 2, 1897, in Oregon County, Missouri, and departed this life on February 4, 1976 after having attained the age of 78 years past.

Dora, the wife of the late Sam Crossland, had been in the Compton Hills Nursing Home in St. Louis, Missouri for the past four years.

Dora, a long time resident of Pulaski County, had made her peace with God at the Assembly of God Church in Herceuleum, Missouri, and remained true to her faith until passing.

Dora leaves to mourn her passing: Two daughters, Aline Sanders of Herceuleum, Missouri, Imagene Winschel of Afton, Missouri; Also surviving are four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister, Flora Henry of Los Angeles, California, and two brothes, Tom Ridenhour of Summitt, Mississippi, and Cecil Powell of Gailsburg, Illinois and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 6, 1976, at 10 a.m. at the Long-Moss-Williams Funeral Chapel in Waynesville, Missouri with the Rev. Lyle Parsons officiating. Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were, Lloyd Graves, Lewis Graves, Arthur Graves, Roy York, Harry Graves, James Crossland, and Paul Long. Organist was Mrs. David Link and Soloist was Iva Mae Case.
