Mary Elizabeth Carson (1843-1889) & John Erby Vance (May 31, 1885-August 5, 1885)

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1882-1912.

Sister Mary Elizabeth, wife of Samuel Carson, born in Vandalia, Ill. Co.,?? Jan. 2d 1843, died at or near Waynesville, Pulaski Co., MO, Nov. 2d 1889, aged 46 ys. and 10 ms. Also, John Erby, son of Mrs. Louisa Emeline Vance born in Pulaski Co., May 31s t 1885, died in Pulaski Co., Aug. 5th 1885, aged 3 ms. and 5 days. A funeral sermon was preached at the Waynesville Church upon their deaths, from Isaiah 48 X 10 by J.J. Watts, Feb. 16th 1890 at 11 a.m. Bro. Carson paid me $5.00, Feb. 16th 1890.
