Charles Ray Alexander 1899-1986

Charles Ray Alexander, of rural Dixon, was born on January 19, 1899, near Alder Springs in Miller County, a son of General Sherman and Saurilda Elizabeth Hollycross Alexander, and departed this life at 3:330 a.m., on Sunday morning August 31, 1986 in the Osage Beach Health Care Center where he had lived since October __, ____.  Mr. Alexander had attained the age of 87 years, 7 months and 12 days.

Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his father on September 18, 1917; his mother on November 20, 1950; three brothers, James Alexander, Barney Alexander and Willie Alexander; and one sister, Mrs. Clara Lore.

Mr. Alexander had attended the Alder Springs Church of Christ near Iberia in earlier years.  He was a farmer and truck driver for all his working life having hauled livestock to the National Stockyards in East St. Louis, Illinois, for many years.

On September 16, 1942, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, Mr. Alexander entered into active federal service in the Army of the United States and served until March 20, 1943, when he was honorably discharged at Camp White, Oregon.

Funeral services were conducted for Mr. Alexander at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday afternoon, September 3, 1986, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Bro. Roy Westbrook, Alder Springs Church of Christ, officiating.  Singers from the Alder Springs Church of Christ sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand” for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Freedom Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.  Pallbearers for Mr. Alexander were Willie Alexander, Bob Carmack, Windorf Helton, Calvin Whitaker, Farris Dake, and Loren Humphrey.

Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. Alexander include: Two brothers, Orville Alexander, Richland and Arthur Alexander, Meta; and many other relatives and friends.

Fond memories of Mr. Alexander will long be remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Bertha Ann (Bilyeu) Hance 1898-1986

Bertha Ann Hance was born in Miller County on Oct. 22, 1898 the daughter of Francis and Paradine Alexander Bilyeu and passed away on March 2, 1986.  She had attained the age og 87 years.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Hance on November 8, 1919 and unto this union one son and one daughter were born.

Bertha was a member of the Church of Christ, a member of the Friendship Club, was an elementary school teacher for many years in the Dixon area, wrote the church news for the Pilot, loved to read and enjoyed her flowers and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Church of Christ on Wednesday, March 5, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Charles Pitts officiating.  Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long Funeral Home of Dixon.  Serving as her pallbearers were Robert Hollis, Robert Perkins, Robert Wilson, William Johnson, Kenneth Allen and Wilford Alexander.

She is survived by one son Lloyd Hance of Spanish Lake, Missouri; one daughter Frances White of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Debra Walters, Cheryl Hance, Ann Willis and Connie Werth; three great grandchildren, Stacy, Stephanie and Kelly; one sister Stella Allen of Dixon, one brother Jesse Bilyeu Sr. of Dixon with many other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Martha Law.

Nellie Mae (Alexander) Rigsby 1907-1984

Nellie Mae Rigsby was born in Alder Springs, Missouri, on January 25, 1907, the daughter of Melvin and Mary Bilyeau Alexander and passed away in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, on Monday evening, February 13, 1984. She had attained the age of 77 years.

She was united in marriage to Charles Rigsby on February 2, 1924 and unto this union two daughters and four sons were born. He preceded her on August 29, 1979. She was a member of the Burnett Chuch and was baptized by Earl Jones in 1961. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held in the Long Gilbert Chapel on Thursday, February 16, 1984 at 11:00 am with Earl Jones officiating. Burial was in the Fox Crossing Cemetery under the direction of the Long Gilbert Chapel. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons.

She is survived by two daughters, Velva Jones and Patsy Fenton of Dixon, four sons, Ernest of Dixon; Robert of Bargersville, Indiana; and Paul and Jack of Nashville, Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Alexander of Dixon and Wade Alexander of Marshfield; one sister Katie McKinnon of Dixon, with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three grandchildren, James, Frank, and Ronnie, three brothers, Sherman, Louis, and Gordon Alexander, and three sisters, Maude, Emma, and Eunice Baker.

Helen LaVesta (Alexander) Henry 1921-2009

Helen LaVesta (Alexander) Henry was born January 17, 1921 in Parker, Kansas. She was the eighth of nine children born to the union of the late George W. and Lena May (Walthall) Alexander.

Hedy, as she was affectionately known, went home to be with her Lord the morning of September 20, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving neighbors and friends. Hedy attained the age of 88 years, 8 months and 3 days.

Hedy attended elementary school in Parker and graduated from Parker Rural High School in 1939. She attended Fort Hays State College and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. In 1941, she signed a contract with the Bonner Springs, Kansas school district, to teach Kindergarten at McDanield School. This commitment lasted for twenty-five years. Hedy retired in May, 1966.

On November 4, 1965, Hedy was united in marriage with James F. Henry of Cuba, Missouri. Jim preceded her in death on September 21, 1994.

In June, 1966, Hedy and Jim moved to Missouri. Jim, a retired Air Force veteran, began working at Ft. Leonard Wood. They were the first to build a home at Old Farm Estates at Waynesville, where they resided until the Lord called each of them home. In her spare time, Hedy enjoyed collecting frogs and displaying them in her home.

Hedy and Jim loved the Lord and were active members of the Waynesville Church of the Nazarene. Hedy was also a life time member of the Eastern Star.

Hedy was dearly loved and will be very sadly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother: Elmo W. Alexander of Lodi, California, her very good friend since childhood: Jean Rude of Portland, Oregon, along with several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Hedy was preceded by seven siblings, all residents of Kansas: Harold J., Harry J., Kenneth W. and Otto L. Alexander and Albert C. Warbritton, Flossie A. Sullins and Velma E. Cuddy.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in the Waynesville Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jason Stevens and Rev. Richard Bushey officiating. Pianist Sharon Bushey played “Ivory Palaces” and accompanied the congregation as they sang “Sweet By and By”. Sharon and Richard Bushey sang “True Love” and Mr. Bushey also sang “Then I Met the Master”. Soloist Lori Jo Bushey sang “The Lord’s Prayer”. Serving as escorts were Daniel (Joe) Breidenbaugh, Wayne Barnhart, Leroy Lofton, Frank Hollingshead, Dick Clayton and Vance Ewing.

Interment was held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in the Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Rolla, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Hedy Henry to the Waynesville Church of the Nazarene and may be left at the funeral home.

WALTER A. ALEXANDER. 1914-1990

Walter A. Alexander was born in Brumley MO, on August 5, 1914, the son of William and Malinda Luttrell Alexander, and passed away suddenly on May 26, 1990. He had attained the age of 74 years, 9 months and 21 days.

He was united in marriage to Goldie M. McDowell on October 1, 1935, in Waynesville.

Walter is survived by his wife, Goldie of the home; one brother, Bernie of Victorville CA; and three sisters, Dora Keith and Alma Robbinett of Wapto, WA, and Dorothy Ash of Villa Ridge, MO; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl, and three sisters, Mary Thornton, Emma Robbinett, and Amanda Rowden, and his parents.

He became a member of Christ Church and was a faithful member for many years. He was a carpenter at Ft. Leonard Wood for over 35 years, being a carpenter and farmer by trade. He lived in Miller and Pulaski Counties all of his life and will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Crocker on Tuesday, May 29, 1990, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lee Todd and Farris Wall officiating. Burial was in Hawkeye Cemetery.

Serving as his pallbearers were Cecil and Calvin Penland, Wayne Moneymaker, Clark Slawson, Dennis Cochran, and Clay Duncan.

Dail Wilkie Alexander, JR 1955-2010

DAIL W. ALEXANDER, JR.

Dail Wilkie Alexander, Jr., of Linn, formerly of Dixon, was born on March 3, 1955 at Morocco, Africa, a son of Dail Wilkie, Sr. and Thelma Ellen Zilpha (Tyrrell) Alexander and departed this life at 7:06 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2010, in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood. Dail had attained the age of 55 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Dail was united in marriage on February 21, 2001, at Linn to Shelley Marie Sterman. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Dail Alexander on August 26, 1974; his father on January 18, 2007 and one brother, Marcus Alexander on March 22, 2006.

Dail attended the Assembly of God Church, Linn and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Jefferson City. He had worked as a supervisor for Missouri Department of Transportation, District 5 Bridge crew, retiring in April 2008. He loved collecting old cars, being on the computer and spending time with his wife, son, daughters and family.

Those left to mourn the passing of Dail include: his wife Shelley Alexander, of the home in Linn; his mother, Thelma Alexander, Dixon; one son and daughter-in-law, Dail W., III and Lori Alexander, New Bloomfield; two daughters and one son-in-law, Brandy Michelle and Shawn Martin, Holt Summit and Serena Nichole Alexander, Linn; one brother, Lester Alexander, Holt Summit; one sister, Alexis Mitchell, Richland; three grandchildren, Jalen Martin, Katie Martin and Breanna Alexander; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted for Dail at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in the Dixon Chapel of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Jacobson, Eureka Baptist Church, Richland officiating. Three favorite musical selections were played for the funeral service.

Interment was in the Seaton Cemetery near Dixon under the direction of the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Dixon. Pallbearers for Dail were Dail Alexander, III, Tommy Rackers, Mike Watson, Mike Kiso, Joe Britton and Kevin Shepherd.

Nellie Mae (Alexander) Rigsby 1907-1984

Lillian Faith (Alexander) Jones 1949-2010

Lillian Faith Jones, of Dixon, was born on August 8, 1949, at Zavalla, Texas, a daughter of Jimmie Muriel and Helen (Hirsch) Alexander and departed this life at 8:32 p.m., Sunday evening, December 20, 2009, at her residence near Dixon. Mrs. Jones had attained the age of 60 years, 4 months and 12 days.
 
Mrs. Jones was united in marriage on December 30, 1967, at Fort Leonard Wood, to Michael Earnest Jones and to this union one daughter was born. Her father preceded her in death on September 24, 1987.
 
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Kickapoo Trace Muzzleloaders and the Jeep Club. She was a housewife and homemaker for all her working life, always diligent in providing for the needs of her family.
 
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Jones include: her husband, Mike Jones, of the home near Dixon; her mother, Helen Alexander, Dixon; one daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Andy Baker, Wentzville; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Jim “Pubi” Alexander, Springfield; Billy Alexander, state of Texas; Danny and Jinnie Alexander, Waynesville; Mike and Tracy Alexander, Cherokee Village, Arkansas; Steve and Joyce Alexander, Jefferson City; and Oscar and Misty Alexander, Dixon; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Earnest Smith, State of Texas and Barbara and Scott Evans, Dixon; one granddaughter, Liberty Baker; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Jones at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2009, in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon with Bro. Dennis Fletcher, Brookfield, officiating. “Ave Maria” and “How Great Thou Art” were played for the service.
 
Interment was in the Waynesville Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Jones were Jim Alexander, Billy Alexander, Danny Alexander, Mike Alexander, Steve Alexander, Oscar Alexander and Andy Baker.

Helen LaVesta (Alexander) Henry 1921-2009

Helen LaVesta (Alexander) Henry, 88 of Waynesville, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Sunday, September 20, 2009 at her home. Services will be announced by Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Mrs. Henry is survived by one brother: Elmo Alexander of Lodi, California, along with a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Helen LaVesta (Alexander) Henry, 88 of Waynesville, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Sunday, September 20, 2009 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 in the Waynesville Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory.

Mrs. Henry is survived by one brother: Elmo Alexander of Lodi, California, along with a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
