WAYNESVILLE- Roy G. Brown, 56, of Waynesville, died at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Waynesville Hospital.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Madaline, and his mother, Mrs. Becky Barnes, of Stoutland.

Funeral services were to be at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville with the Rev. Leslie Busbee officiating. Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.

Mary Alice Brown d. 17 October 1964

WAYNESVILLE- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Brown, 81, who died Saturday at her home in Grandview, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westside Baptist Church here with the Rev. Billy T. Hargrove officiating. Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Cemetery under direction of Moss-Williams.

Surviving are four sons, Mervin M., Roby, Ernest W., St. Louis, Eugene H., Kansas City, and Harold Dale, Parkville; four daughters, Mrs. Edna O'Quinn, Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Sylvia Baker and Mrs. Gola Shaffer, both of Grandview, and Mrs. Mildred Pitts, Kansas City; two brothers, Oscar and John Hullett, both of New Cambria; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Hazel Pearl (Brown) Wilson 1911-2008

Hazel Pearl Wilson, daughter of the late M.D. and Elsie Elva (Courson) Brown, was born on September 13, 1911 in Wharton, Missouri. Pearl attended and graduated from the Bloodland School of Pulaski County in 1929. While a student there, she was a member of the basketball team.

On February 1, 1932, Pearl was united in marriage to Ralph Abbott Wilson in Rolla, Missouri. There shared over 65 years of marriage together and were blessed with one daughter, Doris and one son, Jimmie Lee.

Pearl was a very active and hardworking woman. In the late 1950s, she worked for the Waynesville High School as a secretary and then went on to work for Drew Pippin Insurance for six years. Pearl worked for Pulaski County Family Services for a few years before she started working for the Pulaski County Sheriffs Department. She worked for the Sheriffs Department for 13 years before retiring in April of 1989.

Pearl was a charter member of the Westside Mission that started in 1960 with Norman Sanders as the pastor. She taught Sunday School and some of her students were Bill Morgan, Doug Long, and Dwight Hensley. The story is told that one Sunday, Pearl had the class pick out a favorite song and Doug Long said that he thought they should sing God Bless America. (His father was away in the military at the time.) Pearl was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville and was the oldest living member of the church. She was president of WMU in 1961. She loved music and would sing solos and play the piano at church. Pearl was also a member of the Harmony Home Economic Club.

Pearl went home to be with her Lord at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Waynesville having attained the age of 96 years, 5 months and 20 days.

Pearl leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Doris Davenport and her husband, Dale of Waynesville, MO; one sister: Vera Williams of Tampa, FL; one grandson: Jeff Breedlove and his wife Alisa of Waynesville, MO; three great grandchildren: Charles, Brittany and Bradley Breedlove; one great-great grandson: Trever Breedlove and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; infant son: Jimmie Lee; one sister: Bessie Hamilton and two brothers: Raymond and Arlo Brown.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 7, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Dr. Dennis Crowder officiating. Pianist Becky Lercher accompanied Soloist Mike Freeman as he sang Near to the Heart of God and Nothing Between. Serving as escorts were Michael Wilson, Charles Breedlove, Michael Parrack, Eugene Wilson, Bill Walters, Bill Morgan, Doug Long, Dwight Hensley and Dr. Jim Hackworth.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Carol Bea (Laughlin) Dye 1937-2010

Carol Bea Dye, 72 of Waynesville, MO., died Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Dixon, MO.

Carol was born November 4, 1937 in Union County, Iowa, to James Ralph Laughlin and Pauline Elizabeth Ransom Laughlin. She went to 12 years of school in Camdenton and was a member of the 1955 graduating class.

She married Sgt. James Robert Bolin on May 11, 1958, and three children were born to them: Catherine Ann, Donald Eugene, and Brenda Sue. She married Duane Arthur Brown on July 9, 1966, and two children were born to them: Christina Lyn and Kenneth Ralph. She married Roy Lee Dye on March 17, 1984.

Carol was the secretary to the principal of Waynesville High School for many years until her retirement in 2003. She was very proud to have been elected as President of the MAEOP. She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church in Waynesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Roy Lee Dye and Duane Brown; son, Kenneth Brown; sister, Mary Patricia Laughlin; and nephew, Dennis Anderson.

She is survived by: her children; Catherine Ann Stiga, Brenda Sue Dailey and Donald Eugene Brown, all of Waynesville, Mo. and Christina Lyn Hill of Killeen, Texas; her brothers, twin Jerol Lee (Sandy) Laughlin of Camdenton, Mo. and Ralph Dale (Barbara) Laughlin of Waynesville, Mo; and seven grandchildren; Erin, Alysha, Timothy, twins Shannon and Shawn, Christopher, Amanda, and Jasmine; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “Amazing Grace” and “Serenaded By Angels”. Serving as escorts were Dustin Gibbens, Jerry Dailey, Timothy Cook, and Randy, Matt and Jeff Laughlin. Serving as honorary escorts were Erv Morriss, Dwight Hensley and Butch O’Riley.

Graveside services were held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in the Laughlin Cemetery of Camdenton, Missouri. Joining the escorts at the cemetery were fellow Classmates of 1955: Mac Green, Keith Percival and James Grantham. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carol Dye to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home.

Pansye Oneida (Brown) Chapman 1925-2008

Pansye Oneida Chapman, the youngest of three daughters born to the union of the late Virgil B. and Cora (Logan) Brown, was born August 8, 1925 in Bloodland, Missouri where she grew up. She attended Bloodland School through the 8th grade where her mother taught. The family then moved to Turkey Ridge where she met John Thomas Dodd.

Pansye was united in marriage to J.T. Dodd by her uncle Judge M.D. (Dick) Brown in Waynesville, Missouri. Pansye and J.T. lived in Springfield, Illinois where he passed away on August 23, 1954. She then moved to Waynesville, Missouri to be near her family. Pansye later married Donald Francis Chapman on May 4, 1976 in Camdenton, Missouri. They shared over 22 years of marriage together before Donald preceded her in death in November 1998. Pansye was blessed with two daughters: Shirley and Tammy.

While in Springfield, Illinois, Pansye worked as a waitress. After moving back to the Waynesville, Missouri area, she began working as a cashier at the Waynesville IGA. Pansye lived in her home until her illness caused her to reside at Dixon Nursing & Rehab.

In her spare time, Pansye enjoyed being outdoors on perfect days while she cared for her roses. She was very talented with her hands and liked to do needlework, sewing and crocheting. Most importantly, she treasured the times that she could spend with her family and friends.

Pansye was a member of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville and later attended the First Christian Church of Waynesville until her health no longer permitted her to do so.

Pansye went home to be with her Lord at 12:45A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center of Dixon, Missouri at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 10 days.

Pansye leaves to cherish her memory four children: Tammy Weber and her husband, Jay of Laquey, MO, Shirley Conley and her husband, Ed of Waynesville, MO, Ginger Haghi-Pour and her husband, Ali of Angleton, TX, and Jim Chapman and his wife, Billie of Cuba, MO; 11 grandchildren: Michelle, Christopher, Shana, Jacob, Heather, Roger, Shannon, Kim, Sarah, B.J. and Jilla; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Pansye was preceded in death by one grandson: Ed Conley, Jr. and two sisters: Gladys Wilson and Emma Collins.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, March 21, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wilbur Harbaugh officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "Serenaded By Angels" and "Amazing Grace". Serving as escorts were family and friends. Serving as honorary escorts were Edward Conley, Jr. and Christopher Brown.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

DOROTHY DAISY GOODMAN, 1910-1990

Dorothy Daisy Goodman, 80, died Friday, June 29, 1990, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. She was born in Oswego, NY; on Feb. 4, 1910, the daughter of Paul Arnold and Anna Belle Stahl Brown.

She married Eugene Goodman on Jan 31, 1932. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1989. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Seaton of Meta and Norma and her husband Donald Robertson of Dixon; her two sons, Warren and Robert of Hancock; three grandchildren, Deloris Farge and Dottie and Les Robertson; two great-grandchildren, Lucinda and Justin Farge; her sister, Roberta Funkhouser of Jeffersontown, KY; and her brother, Lewis Brown, of Massillon, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Paul and Edward Brown, and her son-in-law, Walter Seaton.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home in Dixon on Monday, July 2, 1990, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Jack Stevens officiating. Burial was in the Seaton Cemetery. Serving as her pallbearers were Les Robertson, Ed Farge, Jared Hale, Bill Cross, Roland Goodman, and Johnny Wagner. Music was provided by Thom and Sherry Hathaway.

Fern (Roam) McMillin 1926-1990

Fern Roam McMillin of Waynesville, MO, was born in Pulaski County, MO, on February 20, 1926, to Lon Roam and Odessa Mae (Dye) Roam and passed away on April 15, 1990, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Springfield MO following a three-month illness. She had reached the age of 64 years.

Fern taught school at Fairview, Big Piney and Laquey schools after graduating from high school and attending college.

She was also involved with the Pulaski County Democrat as bookkeeper and co-owner with her husband for over twenty years, until they sold the newspaper in 1978.

She was very proud of her work with the city of Waynesville. She served on the Waynesville City Council from November 18, 1988, until the time of her passing. She was always a lover of nature. She enjoyed her garden and took pride in her flower bed.

Fern was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Waynesville, helping to organize the church there.

She was also a charter member of the Homebuilders Club and a member of the Hansen Chapter, Eastern Star, since 1957.

Fern held great pride in her heart for her family and friends and always was willing to help those in need. She had a strong belief in God and held onto that faith until the end of her life.

She was united in marriage to Leamon Douglas Brown in December of 1944. He preceded her in death in July of 1954. Fern was united in marriage to John Hylton McMillin on July 21, 1955. He passed away in October of 1988.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in law, Karolyn and Larry Lercher, of Waynesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie and Mary McMillin of Georgia, and Rich and Kathy McMillin of Waynesville. Four grandchildren also survive, Layne and Brock Lercher and Matthew and Sarah McMillin. One sister, Lucille Howlett of Richland, and one brother, Dale Roam of Florida, also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. McMillin were held on Wednesday, April 18, 1990, at 1 p.m. at the Waynesville Memorial Chapel in Waynesville, with her pastor, Virgil White, officiating. Serving as escorts were Bryan Schaffner, Alfred Lercher, Walter Weber, Ed Shelden, Eddie Howlett, and Bill Nicks. Honorary escorts were George lane, Bill Ransdall, Roy Nichols, Don McCullough, Dave Teufel, Jerry Nelson and Dale Weber.

Burial was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Virgil Logan Collins 1937-1984

Virgil Logan Collins, son of George L. and Emma (Brown) Collins was born March 29, 1937 in Pulaski County, Missouri, and he departed this life May 12, 1984 at the Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 47 years past.

He had made his home in Tulsa for the past 20 years where he was employed by Continental Trailways Bus Company.

He professed Christ as Savior and was baptized in the fellowship of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville at the age of 10 years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 15, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Othal Hodson and Ron Collins officiating.

Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Those serving as pallbearers were Martin Rothstein, Chuck Kramer, Bill Wagner, Terry Collins, Ron Alto, and Jerry Tonroy.

He is survived by his wife Pat, of the home: two sons, Gregg of Altus, Oklahoma and Marty of Muskogee, Oklahoma; one daughter Deanna Woods of Muskogee, Oklahoma, his mother Emma Collins of Waynesville, Missouri; two brothers, Charles Collins of Waynesville, Missouri and Ronald Collins of Tempe, Arizona; three sisters, Barbara Jean Alto of Anoka, Minnesota; Joyce Tonroy of Indianapolis, Indiana; Georgia Kay McIntosh of Irvine, Kentucky; one step son, Vernon Edmonds; three step daughters: Heather Benwars, Michelle Edmonds, and Tracy Edmonds, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two step grandchildren, Jeremy and Patricia, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Ashley Leann Brown, infant daughter of Jon Malcolm and Sharon Ebert Brown of Richland, were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, 1985 at the Oaklawn Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Zumwalt officiating.

She is survived by her parents, Jon Malcom and Sharon Brown, Richland; her maternal grandparents, Calvin and Joann Ebert, Richland; and her paternal grandparents, Malcom and Lela Brown of Richland.

Burial was under the direction of the Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland.

Mervin M. Brown 1904-1985

Mervin M. Brown, age 80, of Roby, Missouri, was born September 9, 1904 in Bloodland, Missouri, a son of Franklin Belle Brown and Mary Alice (Hullett) Brown. He passed away February 22, 1985 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri.

As a young man he was a school teacher at Cookville, Missouri and later at Butler Brothers in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a veteran of World War II.

On August 21, 1943 he married Charlotte Frances Massler of St. Louis, Missouri. In 1949 they moved to Roby where he farmed and worked at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He retired in 1970.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; three sisters, Mildred Pitts, Golda Shaffer, and Sylvia Maxon, all of Roby, Missouri; three brothers, Earnest Brown of Roby, Eugene Brown of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dale Brown of Smithville, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 24, 1985 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gene Barnett officiating.

Burial was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Music was furnished by organist Marjorie Link.

Viva Frances Gan 1906-1984

Viva Frances Gan, of Crocker, Missouri was born on May 1, 1906 at Crocker, Missouri; the daughter of Orville and Edna (Smith) Brown and departed this life on February 14, 1984 at the Pulaski County Memorial Hospital. She had attained the age of 77 years, 9 months, and 13 days.

She is survived by her husband Claude, of the home in Crocker, Missouri; 1 sister Hazel Griffin of Warsaw, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, February 16, 1984 at the Long Moss Williams Chapel in Crocker, Missouri at 2:00 p.m. with Floyd Barlow officiating.

Burial was in the Crocker Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Crocker, Missouri.

Edna M. (Brown) O’Quinn 1903-1984

Edna M. O’Quinn, age 81 of Diamond City, Arkansas, was born a daughter of Franklin Belle Brown and Mary Alice (Hullett) Brown on February 12, 1903 in Bloodland, Missouri, and she departed this life June 13, 1984 at the University Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri.

She was a school teacher in the Bloodland area before her marriage to Lloyd Chester O’Quinn. She resided many years in the West des Moines area and upon retirement, moved to Diamond City, Arkansas. While living there she was a member of Lead Hill Christian Church.

She is survived by three sisters: Mildred Pitts, Golda Shaffer, and Sylvia Maxon all of Roby, Missouri; four brothers: Mervin and Ernest Brown of Roby, Missouri, Dale Brown of Smithville, Missouri, and Eugene Brown of Kansas City, Missouri; one foster daughter: Lynda Young of Independence, Missouri; and one foster son: Terry Brown of Kansas City, Missouri.

Graveside funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, 1984 at 10:00 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery with Virgil White officiating. Services were under direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Those serving as Pallbearers were family members.

Louetta (Price) Brown 1916-1984

Louetta Brown, daughter of Hendrix and Charity Gregory Price, was born June 17, 1916 in Plato, Missouri, and departed this life June 7, 1984 AT Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of 67 years.

She was united in marriage with Willard Brown on January 11, 1935 in Camden County and has made her home in the Richland area the remainder of her life.

In her early teens, Louetta professed her faith in Christ and was baptized and became a member of the Christian Church in Plato, Missouri. She later moved her membership to the Independent Church in Richland.

Louetta enjoyed gardening, and raising flowers both inside and outside her home. She also enjoyed sewing and spent many hours reading the Bible.

She is survived by her husband Willard of Richland; seven sons: Densel and Larry, both of Indpendence, Missouri; Alvin of Lebanon; James of Donaldsonville, Louisiana; Leroy of DeRidder, Louisiana; Ellis of Bennett Springs; Gary of Camdenton; one daughter: Darlene Strickland of Eldon; five brothers: Lawrence and Marley Price both of Camdenton; Willie Decoursey of the State of California; Amos Decoursey of Lebanon; Frank Price of Buffalo; one sister: Matilda Knottingham State of California; 36 grandchildren and 10 great=grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by six half brothers: Gideon, John, and Thomas H. Price. Robert and Fred Decoursey, and Earl Stoner; five half sisters: Nancy. Josephine, Julie, Nicey and Ellen; one granddaughter: Angela Brown.

Services were held Sunday, June 10, 1984, 3:00 p.m. at High Point Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Hutsell officiating.

Music was provided by Mike and David Hutsell.

Escorts were family members.

Burial was in the High Point Cemetery under direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland.

Polly Ann (Gan) Brown 1898-1984

Polly Ann Brown was born in Bloodland, Missouri on July 10, 1898, the daughter of James and Arrena Crossland Gan, and passed away in the Columbia Medical Center on Friday night, January 20, 1984. She had attained the age of 85 years.

She was united in marriage to Bannon S. Brown on July 17, 1919.

Mrs. Brown is survived by 1 son, Leland Brown, of Buckhorn; 4 granddaughters, Karolyn Lercher, Karen McAlester, Katheryn and Karel Brown, all of Waynesville; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Edmon Gan of Waynesville; 3 sisters, Cora Williams, Lemzona Fagan, and Effie Tucker, all of Waynesville; with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bannon S. Brown; 1 son, Lemon (Happy) Douglas Brown; 1 daughter, Lois Brown; and 3 sisters, Nora York, Lucinda Adkison and Edna Mae Williams.

She was a faithful member of the Buckhorn Baptist Church and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 23, 1984 at the Buckhorn Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with F.S. Hammons officiating.

Burial was in the Buckhorn Cemetery under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Waynesville, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Mrs. Cora E. Brown (nee Logan) at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. B.R. Tatom, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Mrs. Brown is the widow of the late Virgil Brown. She passed away at the Waynesville General Hospital yesterday, April 30, following a heart attack suffered earlier at her home here.

Mrs. Brown is survived by three daughters: Mrs. George Collins and Mrs. Raymond Wilson of Waynesville, and Mrs. Pansyse Dodds of Springfield, Illinois, also by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Stella Mae (Martin) Thomas 1920-2008

Stella Mae Thomas, 88, of Salem, Ark., daughter of the late Charlie and Rosa (Brown) Martin, was born March 2, 1920, in Dixon, Mo. She died Nov. 8, 2008, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
Stella spent her working years as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
She is survived by: two sons, Bob Gregory and wife Wanda of Gallatin, Tenn., and Steve Maguffee of Salem; one daughter, Kathy Phillips and husband Joe of Anchorage, Alaska; son-in-law, Carl King of Thayer, Mo.; one sister, Bessie Roberts of Jonesoro, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Craig Maguffee, Tyler Maguffee, Dustin Maguffee, Meghan Maguffee, Tammy Massey, Anita Durham, Ronda Nakoa and Ginger Buck; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ted Thomas; parents; daughter, Judy King; grandson, Greg King; two brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at the Salem Church of Christ in Salem with Bro. David Gibson and Bro. Mike Yates officiating. Interment followed in the Camp Cemetery at Camp, Ark., under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
Pallbearers were Gene Martin, Rayford Martin, Mike Martin, Keith Martin, Paul Fulfer and Marty Roberts.
Memorials are preferred to the Salem Church of Christ.

Mary (Earhart) Brown 1846-1898

This entry is from the J.J. Watts collection. John J. Watts hailed from Warren, Maine and moved to the northern Ozarks of Missouri sometime after the Civil War. He was a circuit-riding Baptist Minister and his territory covered Phelps, Pulaski, and Texas Counties and parts of Maries and Dent Counties. He established a cemetery, Watt’s Lawn, which is located 1 mile West of J Highway, near the Pulaski County-Phelps County line. This collection covers 1878-1912.

Mrs. Mary Brown, wife of John Brown, was born in Indiana Jan’y 4, 1846, the daughter of Isaac and Mary Earhart, both dead. She married John Brown Oct. 11, 1862. Came to Missouri and died near the Flat Post Office, Phelps County, Missouri, July 1, 1898 at 25 minutes to eleven o’clock p.m., aged 52 ys, 5 ms and 27 ds. She was from a family of 6 children, 4 of whom survives her namely: Mrs. Sarah Etherton of Dixie, Henderson County, Kentucky, Mrs. Nancy Brown of Corning, Clay County, Arkansas; and Mr. William Earheart and Miss Mamie Earhart, half-brother and half-sister, who resides at Eldorado, Saline County, Illinois. Sister Brown had 10 children all now living. Prayer and singing at the house by Bro. T. W. Dotson, sermon at the cemetery by Watts from Psalms 35X14, Sunday June 3, 1898, after which sister Brown was laid to rest. A very large congregation present. Elder J. J. Watts $1.00 paid
