The little 4 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Godfrey died of measles last Friday night and her funeral was conducted Saturday.

Clarice Faye "Godfrey" (Benge) Elrod 1921-2009

Clarice Faye (Godfrey) Elrod, 87 of Waynesville, Missouri passed away at 11:11 P.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Life Care Center of Waynesville, Missouri from conditions associated with the advanced stages of Alzheimers.


Clarice, or Godfrey as she was called by her friends, was born on August 7, 1921 in Magazine, Arkansas to the late Joseph T. and Emma A. (Spain) Benge.


She was married to the late Bonnie B. Godfrey in 1945 and they had one son, James. In 1967 she married Gene T. Elrod and they were married 20 years, until his death in 1987.



Godfrey worked at one of the Service Clubs at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas before moving to the Waynesville area in 1958. She worked at Fort Leonard Wood and other businesses in this area. She also owned two bars in the area – the Hideaway in Devils Elbow and the Country Club Lounge in St. Robert, where she worked until June 2006. She treated her customers like family-always giving advice and running a tight ship.




Godfrey leaves to cherish her memory one son: James E. Godfrey and his wife, Carol of Waynesville, MO; two grandson: James Godfrey and his wife Tracee of Longview, WA and Jason Godfrey of Springfield, MO; three great-grandchildren: Addyson Greek of Joplin, MO, Morgan Godfrey and Samantha McIntosh both of Longview, WA; two sisters-in-law: Christine Miller and Clesia Benge, both of Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Godfrey was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; five brothers; one sister and an infant granddaughter, Jaime Michelle Godfrey.




She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for her feisty personality, which kept all who knew her on their toes.



Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 17, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels of Waynesville/St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Softly and Tenderly".



Burial will be held at a later date in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory.




Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Clarice "Godfrey" Elrod to the Alzheimer's Research and may be left at Memorial Chapels of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Maggie Godfrey Long 1844-1934

MRS. NOAH LONG

DIES AT AGE OF 90

Maggie Godfrey was born Feb. 1, 1844 in North Carolina and departed from this life Feb. 20, 1934 in the home of her Great Niece, Mary Gammons at Richland with whom she had made her home the past two years. At the time of her death, she was 90 years and 19 days old.

She was united in marriage to Noah Long, Dec. 5, 1898. His death occurred 11 years ago, leaving her a widow.

She came to Richland fifty years ago and lived here practically all the rest of the time. She united with the Christian Church of Richland 40 years ago, living a Christian life until her death. She leaves to mourn her going, 5 nephews, several Great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was “Aunt Mag” to everyone who knew her and was loved by all. She was confined to her room and bed for several years; always had a cheerful smile and word for everyone.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Wednesday, Feb. 21, with Rev. J.O. Brown preaching the funeral service.

Madge Celesta (Godfrey) Manes 1902-1990

Madge Celesta Manes, daughter of George and Pearl Lea Jones Godfrey, was born August 21, 1902 in Richland, Missouri, and departed this life July 27, 1990, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of eighty-seven years, eleven months, and six days.

She was united in marriage with George Larson and to this union one son and one daughter were born.

On July 11, 1936, she was united in marriage with Jim G. Manes, and to this union was born one son.

As a young girl, Madge professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Swedeborg Baptist

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Manes, Richland, Missouri; her daughter, June Fishback, Lakewood, California; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, George Larson and Jim G. Manes, one son, Kenneth Larson, and one grandson.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 30, 1990 at the First Baptist Church of Swedeborg, with the Revs. Larry Atkins and Tim Baker officiating. She was laid to rest at Bethlehem Cemetery. Escorts were Lowell Jacobson, Hubert Larson, Robert

James Ralph Miller 1902-1985

James Ralph Miller was born a son to William T. and Ida Mae (Godfrey) Miller on March 25, 1902 at Richland, Missouri and he departed this life on March 19, 1985 at Sunset Village of the Ozarks, having attained the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 24 days.

As a young man, Ralph was baptized and joined the Idumea Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to the Friendship Baptist Church at Fort Leonard Wood.

On February 26, 1922, Ralph was united in marriage to Delphia Elizabeth York and to this union two daughters were born, one passing away in infancy.

Besides his daughter, Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, two sisters, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter.

Survivors include a sister: Edith Broemeiser of Godfrey, Illinois; a daughter: Nancy Myers of Laquey, Missouri; two grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, 1985 at 10:00 a.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Haskell Orrick officiating.

Music was provided by Dr. Keith Miles, soloist and Marjorie Link, organist.

Serving as escorts were: Irdart Brady, Ora Lee Brady, Dale Davenport, Larry Sisk, and Richard York.

Serving as honorary escorts were: Danny Graves and Roger Higgins.

Burial was in the Deerlick Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Funeral Chapel.

Litha Ann (Godfrey) Smith 1892-1984

Litha Ann Smith, daughter of Richard and Delilah Phillips Godfrey, was born on August 14, 1892 in Miller County, and departed this life July 10, 1984 in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of 91 years.

She was united in marriage with William Smith on February 28, 1909, and to this union was born three sons and one daughter who survive.

“Annie” as she was known to her family and friends, has been a member of the Christian Church in Richland since 1950.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, Frank, Hughie, Lace, Mike, and Odie, and one sister, Elizabeth, her son-in-law, Thayden, and her daughter-in-law, Maxine.

Annie is survived by three sons., Raymond of Columbia, Vernon, of Jefferson City, and Orville of Richland; one daughter, Irene Hughes of Richland; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services for Litha Ann Smith were held at Colonial Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m., Friday July 13, 1984. Officiating at the services was John Davenport. Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist and Marcia Shadel, organist. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery. Escorts were: James Laquey, Edward Bohannon, Wayne Johnson, Jim Dippert, Cleamont Sheeley, and Edgar Wolfe. Under the direction of Colonial Funeral Chapel of Richland, Missouri.

Jesse Godfrey 1909-1982

Jesse Godfrey, son of Mike and Bertie Popular Godfrey, was born March 3, 1909 in Pulaski County and departed this life October 31, 1982 in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 13 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 3, 1982 with Minister Rev. Lawrence Clark officiating. Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Richland.

He is survived by one aunt, Mrs. Annie Smith of Richland, Missouri and several cousins.
