Gerald Ovied "Harry" Strutton 1924-1986

Gerald Ovied Strutton better known to everyone as “Harry” was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 29, 1924, the son of Albert Sylvester and Martha Long Strutton and passed away in the Ft. Leonard Wood Hospital on January 22, 1986.  He had attained the age of 61 years.

He was united in marriage to Toyoko Kanamori and to this union 4 sons and 3 daughters were born.

He served in the Army retiring after 21 years, enjoyed fishing and hunting and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held in the Long Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 1986 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Lee Todd officiating.

Burial was in the Zion Cemetery under the direction of the Long Funeral Home of Crocker.

Pallbearers were Dale, Dana, Dean, and Don Strutton, Tim Proctor and Jim Massey.

Harry is survived by his wife, Toyoko of the home, 4 sons, Dale, Dean, and Don Strutton of Crocker and Dana Strutton of St. Anthony; three daughters, Akemi Massey of Kansas City, Aleta Hall and Jackie Proctor of Crocker; nine grandchildren, four brothers, Gene and Raymond Strutton of Kansas City, Tom Strutton of Iberia and Junior Strutton of Sugar Creek, Missouri; three sisters, Alene Long of Dixon, Glennis Brown of Kansas City and Mae Beal of Crocker; one half brother Claud Strutton of Kansas City, with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Kimberly Proctor on November 5, 1985 and two half brothers, Walter and Archie Strutton.

Claude Lester Long, Sr. 1913-1986

Claude Lester Long, Sr., of Dixon, was born on November 12, 1913, at Dixon, a son of Joseph and Lucy Oss Long, and departed this life at 9:25 p.m. on Saturday evening, April 12, 1986, at the residence of his daughter, Anna Ruth, Route 1, Dixon.  He had been ill with cancer for two years and had attained the age of 72 years and five months.

He was first united in marriage on March 20, 1930, to the former Miss Gladys Emma Belle, and to this union, five children were born.  Mrs. Long preceded her husband in death on September 19, 1976.  He was later united in marriage on February 7, 1979 at St. Robert, to the former Mrs. Lena Mildred Hale Martin.

He was a faithful member of the Sheppard Baptist Church near Dixon where at the time of his death he was a deacon and had served as Sunday School Superintendent and Church Training Director.  He had accepted Jesus Christ as his personal saviour and followed his Lord in baptism in 1939 at First Baptist Church in Dixon.  He retired in 1970 from Ft. Leonard Wood Post Engineers where he had worked in maintenance for over thirty years.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Long of the home; one son, Claude L. Long, Jr., Rolla; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Ruth Manees, Dixon; Mrs. Ella Mae Dake, Springfield; Mrs. Roxie Lee Southard, Rolla, and Mrs. Clara Farran, Manchester; one step-daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Hughes, Springfield; seven stepsons, Bill Martin, St. Louis, Tommy Martin, Springfield, Bobby Martin, Tipton, Stanley Martin and Gary Martin, both of Dixon, and Ralph Martin and Terry Martin, both of O’Fallon; three brothers, Everett Long and Raymond Long, both of Dixon, and Emmitt Long, Tucson, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; twenty-three step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Fond and precious memories of Mr. Long will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 1986, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Rev. Lindell Shelden, Pastor of Sheppard Baptist Church, and Rev. LeRoy Tucker, Rolla, officiating.

Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Active pallbearers were Lawrence Vineyard, Bob Foster, Vernon Long, Richard Fenton, Leroy Stevens, and Raymond Vineyard.

Honorary pallbearers were Bryan Southard, Paul Long, Bruce Southard, Greg Long, Johnny Thompson, J.L. Farran, Mike Dake, Larry Dake and Shawn Alexander.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sheppard Baptist Church.

Martha (Long) Strutton 1900-1981

Martha Strutton was born in Crocker, Mo., on September 22, 1900, the daughter of Tommy and Elizabeth Long and passed away in the Charles E. Still Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri on Saturday, May 16, 1981.  She had attained the age of 80 years. 

She was united in marriage to Albert Strutton on January 12, 1921 and 9 children survive.

Mrs. Strutton was a member of the Mt. Union Church of Christ.

She is survived by her children, 3 daughters, Aileen Long and May Beal of Dixon, and Glynis Brown of Kansas City, 6 sons, Gerald Strutton of Crocker, Farrell, Gene, Raymond, and Claude Strutton of Kansas City and Carl Jr. of Sugar Creek, Mo., and Tommy Strutton of Iberia, 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, 4 sisters, Grace Holler of Kansas City, Evelyn Walls of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Ora Becker of Crocker, and Irene Jennings of Oak Grove, Mo, 5 brothers, Willis Long of Crocker, Otha and Oda Long of Richland, Claude Long of Kansas City and Gilbert Long of Lee Summitt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Bobby Wayne on March 25, 1969, 3 step-sons, Albert Jr., Walter and Archie and 1 sister Eva Long and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Pleasant Hill Church with Farris Wall officiating on Tuesday, May 19, 1981 at 1:00 p.m..  Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Moss-Williams Funeral Home of Crocker.  Her grandsons served as pallbearers. 

Elmer Gene Shivers 1959-2008

Elmer Gene Shivers, son of Kenneth Gene and Eleanor Ruth (Long) Shivers, was born March 26, 1959 in Waynesville, Missouri where he grew up and attended school. Elmer was a 1977 graduate of Waynesville High School.

Elmer accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Westside Baptist Church.

In 1981, Elmer was united in marriage to Denise Tennenbaum in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared 10 years of marriage together and were blessed with two children: Kenneth Kenny and Lauren.

Elmer was a hardworking man and worked in the heating and air conditioning business as long as his health permitted him to do so. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors while fishing and playing sports. During his high school years and a few years after high school, Elmer played football, baseball and even coached and sponsored a softball team. He was very active and loved sports. Elmer was a people person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandson.

Elmer passed away at 5:38 A.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Missouri at the age of 49 years, 8 months and 7 days.

Elmer will be very sadly missed, but fondly remembered by his mother: Eleanor Shivers of St. Robert, MO; two children: Kenny Shivers and Lauren Shivers, both of St. Louis, MO; maternal grandmother: Myrtle Long of St. Robert, MO; two sisters: Sondra Negrete of Waynesville, MO and Connie Shivers-Wirt of Fayetteville, NC; one grandson: Dylan; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his father: Kenneth G. Shivers; maternal grandfather: Elmer Long; and paternal grandparents: Ralph and Flossie Shivers.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 6, 2008 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Elmers nephew, Jared Wirt read a poem in memory of his uncle. Paul Wirt, Elmers brother-in-law, recalled his wonderful memories of Elmer. The songs I Can Only Imagine, Sanctuary and Lord of the Dance were played. Serving as escorts were Bill Tallant, Gordon Rigsby, Mark Milka, David Harbaugh, Scott Lindsey, and Mark Shea.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Leroy Rowden 1929-2006

Leroy Rowden was born November 29, 1929, in a community in Camden County, Missouri known as Toronto. Leroy was one of eleven children born to the union of the late Charley R. and Zylphia (Long) Rowden.

Leroy attended school in Swedeborg and Brumley. In the early 1950s, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he began working on the freight docks for Ryder Freight Lines.

While livivg in Chicago, Leroy met Joan Carol Hudik. They were married on December 21, 1957. Leroy and Joan were blessed with two sons, Mark and Noel. Joan preceded Leroy in death on July 26, 1985.

The Rowden family moved back to Camden County in the early 1970s, and Leroy went to work at Stanton Manufacturing at Lake Ozark.

Leroy was a strong, hard working man who enjoyed his farm. He also enjoyed watching baseball on T.V., especially if the St. Louis Cardinals were playing.

Leroy was a man of faith, and expressed his belief in God to his family several times. After many years of ill health, Leroy departed this life the evening of October 21, 2006 in the Richland Care Center, Richland, Missouri, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 22 days.

He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by tow sons: Mark Rowden and his wife, Rita of Camdenton, Missouri, and Noel Rowden of Richland, Missouri; one brother: Gerald Dean Rowden of the state of Illinois; two sisters: Lillian Jones of Camdenton, Missouri and Hazel Frentzel of St. Louis, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Leroy was also preceded in death by four brothers: Vernon, Gail, Carl and Clyde Rowden and three sisters: Alice Long, Belle Crump and Fern Williams.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 24, 2006 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Bro. Charles Pitts officiating. The songs "Amazing Grace and "Precious Memories were sang by John and Ella Crossland. Serving as escorts were Mark Rowden, Michael Jones, Dale Long, Jimmy Jones, Jack Long, Sam Pope and Doug Roberts.

Burial followed in the Glover Chapel Cemetery in Camden County, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.

Sylvia Lou (Singleton) Long 1906-2004

Sylvia Lou (Singleton) Long was born August 12, 1906 at Needmore, Missouri in Pulaski County near the old Riddle Bridge. She was one of eight children born to the union of Phillip Elbert and and Emma Florence (Wolfe) Singleton.

In 1922, Sylvia left home to take a position working at the Baker Hotel. She later worked at Dorey Hough's restaurant and then at the Stage Coach Inn.

On July 27, 1927, Sylvia was united in marriage with Francis Marion Long in Rolla, Missouri. This union was blessed with two sons, Francis and Kenneth.

After their marriage, Sylvia and Frank worked at the Pippin Place before moving for a short time to California to work in the vineyard fields. They moved back to Pulaski County in the late 1930's at which time Sylvia went to work at the Waynesville Post Office. For a brief time, she was employed at Mitchell Optical Company before doing laundry in her home. In 1950, Sylvia went to work at the laundry on Fort Leonard Wood where she held the position of supervisor until her retirement in 1970. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who did beautiful handwork and made many quilts for her family to enjoy.

Sylvia departed this life the morning of November 14, 2004, at Rolla Presbyterian Manor in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 98 years, 3 months and 2 days.

She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her two sons: Francis M. Long and his wife, Claudette of Mandeville, Louisiana and Kenneth Long and his wife, Mary Lou of Rolla, Missouri; one sister: Mae Case of Waynesville, Missouri; four grandchildren: Marybeth, John, Mark, and Paul Long; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers: Harry, Barney and Mike and three sisters: Lillie George, Edith Zumwalt and Hazel Hough.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Mark Rinehart officiating. Sylvia's grandson, John Long gave a beautiful eulogy. Pianist Becky Lercher played "In The Garde" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Serving as escorts were Cleo Long, Doug Long, Jack Long, Leo Long, Virgil Singleton and Bob Zumwalt.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Myrtle Mae (Williams) Long 1920-2010

Myrtle Mae Long went home to be with her Lord the morning of September 25, 2010, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 21 days.

Myrtle was one of three children born to the late Carlos Levi and Bessie M. (Logan) Williams. She was born August 4, 1920 in the community of Cookville, Missouri, in Pulaski County. When Myrtle was a very young girl, her family moved to Crescent, near St. Louis, Missouri. They later moved to Waynesville, where she attended school.

On August 29, 1936, in Lebanon, Missouri, Myrtle was united in marriage with Elmer Long. Myrtle and Elmer were blessed with three daughters, Donna Pearl, Eleanor Ruth and Lynda Charlene. Myrtle mourned the passing of her eight year old daughter, Donna Pearl in 1945, and Elmer in 1976. In 1978, she married Harold Zielke, who preceded her in death in 1983.

In 1948, Elmer and Myrtle owned and operated Long’s Restaurant in Waynesville. When it closed, Myrtle took business courses at Drury College at Ft. Leonard Wood. She accepted a position as bookkeeper at the Pulaski County Hospital, and later worked for Carl and Polly Deaton at Skyway Aviation for ten years. She retired after serving as St. Robert Finance/City Clerk for fifteen years.

Myrtle was very active in her community. She was a member of the Pulaski County Democratic Central Committee (chairman 10 years), and Business and Professional Women; member from 1953 to 1984, appointed to the state board in 1970, serving as president from 1982 – 83, treasurer for two terms, and during her tenure on the board held every state office. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and playing cards. She bowled on the Tuesday Morning Coffee League and Wednesday Night Ladies’ League at Buckhorn Bowling Lanes.

In 1938, Myrtle professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in the Gasconade River near the Riddle Bridge. She was a faithful, active member of Westside Baptist Church, until her health no longer permitted her attendance.

Myrtle was very dearly loved, and will be sadly missed by her daughters: Eleanor Shivers of St. Robert and Charlene Nalley of Waynesville; four grandchildren: Sondra Negrete, Connie Wirt, Kellie Scott and Errin Willis; fourteen great grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Also preceding Myrtle in death were her grandparents: Alex Logan and Anna Mae Williams; her brother: Alex Williams; sister: Ruthie Moll; sons-in-law: Kenneth Shivers and Steven Nalley; beloved grandson: Elmer Shivers and two great grandsons: Eddie Negrete and Cameron Scott.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Pastor Lindell Shelden officiating. Marvin Long, cousin of Myrtle, read the obituary and recalled his wonderful memories of Myrtle. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “I Love to Tell the Story”, “This World Is Not My Home”, “God Be With You Til We Meet Again” and “When We All Get to Heaven”. Serving as escorts were Kenny Shivers, Jared Wirt, Chuck Willis, James Scott, Gil Negrete, Sr., Benjamin Negrete and Ron Long.

Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.

Maggie Godfrey Long 1844-1934

MRS. NOAH LONG

DIES AT AGE OF 90

Maggie Godfrey was born Feb. 1, 1844 in North Carolina and departed from this life Feb. 20, 1934 in the home of her Great Niece, Mary Gammons at Richland with whom she had made her home the past two years. At the time of her death, she was 90 years and 19 days old.

She was united in marriage to Noah Long, Dec. 5, 1898. His death occurred 11 years ago, leaving her a widow.

She came to Richland fifty years ago and lived here practically all the rest of the time. She united with the Christian Church of Richland 40 years ago, living a Christian life until her death. She leaves to mourn her going, 5 nephews, several Great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was “Aunt Mag” to everyone who knew her and was loved by all. She was confined to her room and bed for several years; always had a cheerful smile and word for everyone.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Wednesday, Feb. 21, with Rev. J.O. Brown preaching the funeral service.

Ophelia Faye (Long) Mitchell 1892-1985

Ophelia Faye Mitchell was born January 27, 1892, and died April 8, 1985 at the age of 93.

Faye was born in Waynesville, the daughter of Joe Mart and Margaret Logan Long. In 1908 she married Edward Thomas Mitchell and eventually became the mother of a daughter and two sons--Irene, Kenneth, and Howard.

A hardworking woman with a reputation as an excellent cook, Faye took in boarders to help make ends meet while raising her family. Edward Mitchell died in 1939 and Faye decided to take a course in hotel management to prepare herself for a second career. She obtained a job as housemother at Fort Leonard Wood; then she worked in a similar capacity for universities in Kentucky, Columbia, Missouri and Rolla, Missouri.

After she retired she moved to Springfield and enjoyed extensive travels and tours through 48 states with her sister, Lida Joyner. In 1974, when failing health made it impossible for her to live alone, she requested that she be placed in the Masonic Home in St. Louis. She spent her last decade there, comfortable in the security and independence that she had worked all her life to achieve.

Faye was a good and faithful member of the First Baptist Church for nearly all her life. In addition, she was in the Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years.

Faye was good company. Always mentally alert, she kept up with current events and politics through reading and watching television. She loved to do handwork and was an excellent seamstress. Right up to the end she maintained high standards and pride in her personal appearance and her housekeeping. She was never afraid to try anything new and, at the age of 85, even developed a taste for pizza and tacos.

Granny-Mom, as Faye was known to her family, was preceded in death by one son, Lee Howard. She will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Irene Morgan, and son, Kenneth Mitchell, both of Waynesville; her grandsons--Bill Morgan of Waynesville, John and Russell Mitchell of Minneapolis and Steve Mitchell of California; her great granddaughter, Julie Morgan of Waynesville; her sister, Grace Black of Lebanon.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 11, 1985 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Othal Hodson officiating.

Music was provided by Doris Davenport, organist.

Serving as escorts were: Champ Collier, Jim Dodds, Byron Eldredge, Norman Humphreys, George Lane, and Jim Mitchell.

Burial was in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Robert Jackson Wall 1914-1984

Robert Jackson Wall, son of Edgar Wall and Cora Long Wall, was born December 23, 1914 at Hawkeye, Missouri and departed this life in Columbia, Missouri, December 15, 1984 after a long illness. At the time of his passing, he had attained the age of 69 years, 11 months, and 22 days.

He was united in marriage to Lila Tynan on December 11, 1976.

His occupation was that of a truck driver and auto body repairman in Iowa where he lived until moving to Richland, Missouri where he has resideded for the past year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, step-mother (Sophie Rowden Wall), and four step-brothers.

Those surviving him are his wife, Lisa of the home; one son Bob H. Wall, Richland,Missouri; two brothers, Elda Wall, Seatlle, Washington, and Frank Wall, Charles City, Iowa; one sister Helen Herrington, Richland,Missouri; four step-children, Danny J. (Jim), Dennis, and Steve Tynan, and Jan Miller, all of Charles City, Iowa, three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Services were held Tuesday, December 18, 1984 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Davenport officiating.

Music was provided by Rusty Shadel, soloist and DeLores Shadel, organist.

Lois Lee (Long) Burgess 1931-1984

Lois Lee Burgess, of Crocker, Missouri, was born on November 9, 1931 in Pulaski County, Missouri, the daughter of Willis and Dorca (McComb) Long and departed this life on January 16, 1984 at her home in Crocker, Missouri. She had attained the age of 52 years, 2 months, and 7 days.

Lois was a member of the First Christian Church of Crocker. She greatly enjoyed the outdoors.

She is survived by her husband, Donald E. Burgess of Crocker, Missouri; her son and his wife: Jody and Pam Burgess of Crocker, Missouri; her parents: Willis and Dorca Long, of Crocker, Missouri; 1 brother Leonard Long, of Brumley, Missouri; 2 sisters: Wanda Mashburn of Brumley, Missouri, Bernadine Duncan of Iberia, Missouri and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, January 19, 1984 at the Christian Church of Crocker, Missouri at 2 p.m. with Merwyn McMillan officiating.

Burial was in the Crocker Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Long Moss Williams Funeral Home of Crocker.

Pallbearers were: Andy lowe, Harold Burnett, Bud Newcomb, Don Hodgen, Bob Malmberg, and Jess Peterson.

Lloyd George Self 1917-1984

Lloyd George Self was born November 26, 1917 in Buffalo, Missouri, to Edward Walker Self and Ella Sylvania Long Self, and passed away at his home in Laquey, Missouri on February 26, 1984. At the time of his passing, he had attained the age of 66 years and 3 months.

At an early age, he professed his faith in Christ and was baptized at the Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church, Buffalo, Missouri.

In 1935, Lloyd moved with his family to Lemon Cove, California, later enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1941, and served until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. He returned to San Jose, California, where he had been employed prior to his duty in the Navy, residing there until he returned to Missouri in 1979.

On October 29, 1945, he was united in marriage to Margaret Arlene Harris, and to this union was born 3 children.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union for 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 3168.

Lloyd and his wife enjoyed traveling with the Travel Trailer Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, William Howard and 1 sister, Mary Elizabeth Fullerton.

Those surviving him are his wife, Margaret, of the home; 1 son, John Lloyd of Laquey, Missouri; 2 daughters, Alice Marie Tripoli of Morgan Hill, California; and Linda Arlene DeSelle of San Jose, California; 2 brothers, Lee Self of Exeter, California; and Bert Self of Sagle, Idaho; 4 sisters, Inez Fullerton and Edith Bence of Exeter, California; Gladys Montgomery of Sacramento, California; and Dorothy Stuart of Three Rivers, California; 8 grandchildren;

Lloyd was very proud of his heritage, being the fourth generation of the Self family in Missouri.

He loved his family and home. He enjoyed working in his garden and yard, and helping his neighbors and friends.

Services for Lloyd G. Self were held at Colonial Funeral Chapel 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 1984. Officiating at the services was Rev. F.S. Hammons. Music was provided by Rust Shadel, Soloist, Marcia Shadel, Organist. Burial was in the Idumea Cemetery.

Francis (Frank) M. Long 1906-1984

Francis (Frank) M. Long was born a son of Francis Marion Long and Nancy (Logan) Long, on January 23, 1906 in Waynesville, Missouri, and he departed this life July 12, 1984 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri in his 78th year.

He united in marriage to Sylvia Lu Singleton on July 25, 1984 and they shared over 56 years together.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14, 1984 at 2:00 p.m. in the Waynesville Memorial Chapel with Reverend Norman Sanders officiating.

Interment was in the Waynesville Memorial Park cemetery under direction of the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.

Music was organ selections by Mrs. Marjorie Link.

Serving as pallbearers were nephews, Jack Long, Dale Long, Leo Long, Fred Long, Paul Long, and Charlie Long.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of the home; two sons, Francis Long and daughter-in-law, Claudette of New Orleans, Louisiana, and granddaughter, Marybeth Long of Fall Church, Virginia, Kenneth Long and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou of Rolla, Missouri; three grandsons, mark and Paul Long both of Rolla, Missouri.

Lula Katherine Long 1928-2009

Lula Katherine Long, daughter of the late George Albert and Lillie Rene (Tennison) Long, was born July 2, 1928 in Lebanon, Missouri. She departed this life at 8:03 A.M. Tuesday, September 1, 2009 in the Richland Care Center at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 29 days. As a young woman, Katherine moved in with her grandmother, Maude Williams and became her primary caretaker until Mrs. Williams’ death in 1967. Her greatest concern was taking care of her family. Katherine will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her sisters: Eva Pauline Massey of Bettendorf, Iowa and Virginia Fuller of Richland; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by two brothers: George Delbert Long and Alvin Chester Long. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Rev. Christopher S. Hendrix, Sr. shared comforting words with the family gathered at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland. Burial followed in the Fulbright Cemetery in Laclede County. Serving as escorts were Carl Mounce, John Mounce and Reginia Copeland. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland.

Nancy Leola (Logan) Long 1866-1956

Nancy Leola (Logan) Long, daughter of Jacob and Margaret Logan, was born May 14, 1866 in Pulaski County and passed away July 25, 1956 at her home in Waynesville, Missouri. Her entire life being spent in Pulaski County, except 2 years spent in the adjoining Phelps County.

She was married to Francis Marion Long December 28, 188_, who preceded her in death, February 18, 1926. To this union 12 children were born, 3 having preceded her in death. Estella and Nettie 2 daughters who died in infancy and 1 son, Charles E. Long of Modesto, California who passed away August 24, 1949.

At the age of 14 she was converted and united with the old Friendship Baptist Church, later moving her membership to the Waynesville Baptist Church where she remained a member until the time of her passing, being faithful in attendance, until failing health prevented. Those surviving her are 7 sons, James A. Long of Ferguson, Missouri, Fred Long of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Glen Long of Montreal, Missouri, Walter Long of Laquey, Missouri, Frank M. Long of Waynesville, Missouri, and Henry and Lyman of the home. Also 2 daughters, Mrs. H. Gann of Kirkwood, Missouri, and Mrs. William V. Hensley of Waynesville and Cora Ousley of Caseyville, Illinois, also a host of other relatives and neighbors.

Funeral services were held July 29, 1956 at the Waynesville Baptist Church with the Rev. B.R. Tatom officiating. Burial was in the Bradford Cemetery under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Mrs. Nell E. (Erickson) Long 1901-1956

Mrs. Nell E. Long, 55 years old, the wife of LeClair Long of Waynesville, who for the past three years had been suffering from a heart ailment, passed away at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis Friday, December 7, where she had been undergoing treatment.

Mrs. Long, whose pleasant and cheerful disposition, won a host of friends, not only in this city but throughout the county as well, was very active in church and civic affairs until her illness. She was a past Matron of Hansen Chapter, Order of Easter Star.

Your editor feels a distinct loss in the passing of such a friend and we remember that when we first moved to Waynesville Mrs. Long aided us in numerous ways in our efforts to publish a newspaper- we have never met a sweeter disposition lady as was Mrs. Long and we join with her hosts of friends in extending our deepest sympathy to "Soupie", Bill and Joe Mart, and to her other relatives and loved ones. Our lives have been enriched in knowing Nell Long.

Nellie Elizabeth (Erickson) Long, daughter of John Alfred Erickson and Anna Olivia Sundquist, was born near Waynesville, Missouri on April 18, 1901 and departed this life December 7, 1956 at the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 55 years, 7 months, and 17 days.

She was educated in the Waynesville public schools and Springfield Teachers College. She was a member of the Hansen Chapter No. 22 of the Eastern Star since 1922.

She was a very patient and loving mother and wife and was always careful to be grateful to all. She was pleasant and kind in spite of her physical difficulties. She is survived by her husband of the home, by the sons, Wm. C. of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Joe Mart, a student at Missouri University, by one grandchild, Michael Clair of Wichita Falls, Texas, by two brothers. John Alfred Erickson of Quincy, Kansas, and Ted of Neal, Kansas, three sisters, Mrs. Edith DeGrafenreid of Neal, Kansas, Mrs. Clara Shelton of Rolla, Missouri, Mrs. Ann Adams of St. Clair, Missouri, one aunt, Mrs. Marie Bastwick of Indianapolis, indiana, two uncles, John Sundquist and Harry Sundquist. Also surviving are a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held last Sunday, November 9, 1956 at 2:00 p.m. at the Waynesville Baptist Church with rev. B.R. Tatom officiating. Burial was in the Waynesville Memorial Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home of Waynesville.

Pall bearers were Dru Pippin, Claude Rigsby, Clyde Colley, Wm. Hensley, Nelson Royalty, and Gene Farnham.
